this one comes to mind not from some grating composition but from sheer repetition after the game played a shortened version for several scenes of dialogue then for the next few stages after

The resident 4 intro song (the drive) and the remake version of it that can be heard in the shooting range.

Edit: I misread the question, I can't think of one at the top of my head ;w;

it is so, so boring, and never changes. applicable to this whole ost. only jrpg wjere I would recommend just muting the music outright unlesss you want to drive yourself insane.

Most of the remixes in Persona 3 and 5's dancing games are downright terrible, especially the Rivers in the Desert - mito Remix which has such bad autotune that it becomes downright hilarious and the Mass Destruction remix by Tetsuya Kobayashi, where the drummer seems to be suffering from a stroke.

There's also Shadow World DE DE MOUSE Remix from Persona 4 dancing, which I don't even need to explain, just listen to it and you'll understand.

heh, i still haven't played that game... it's kind of funny tho, that battle music almost sounds like a High School Football Marching Band remix (except for the strings)

-a large portion of Mega Man X8’s soundtrack is either bland or samey.

-majority of any Dragon Quest soundtrack

-Let The Battles Begin from Final Fantasy VII (maybe I’m just crazy, but this sounds boring as fuck to me, Final Fantasy has done better. I wish the boss theme was the normal battle theme hilariously enough, it actually sounds in line with the battle themes of the past 6 games)

-A lot of Hollow Knight’s music

-Metallic Madness US (these honestly just suck even for the psychedelic thing the US ost was going for)

-Sky Base Zone from GG/SMS Sonic 1

-every Sigma theme before X4

-every boss theme in Mega Man X3, there isn’t a single good one

-The Cenotaph from Metal Slug 2 (it wants to be Himitsu Factory so bad)

-Race to Win from Sonic Rivals 2

-Don’t Be Afraid from Final Fantasy VIII

-Ice Cap from Sonic 3 (Prototype/PC/Origins) (I just can’t like this at all no matter what version it is, it’s just bootleg Crystal Egg Zone and it’s booooring, Sega was good to scrap it)

-Thunder Force 2’s soundtrack (it’s just meh)

-Warning of Puyo Puyo (should’ve been Rejection of Puyo Puyo instead)

-Heat Man from Mega Man 2

-Magic Man from Mega Man & Bass

-Marble Garden Zone Act 2

-Spring Stadium Zone Act 2 (Saturn)

-Volcano Valley Zone (Saturn)

-Lost Jungle Zone

-the boss theme from Sonic 4 Episode I

-the boss theme from Sonic 4 Episode II

-Nack’s theme in Sonic Superstars

-Illusory Dance from Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and beyond

-Danger from Secret of Mana

-Defeat at a Blow! from Phantasy Star IV

-Apple Woods from PMD2

-Give Me All Your Love from TWEWY

-a lot of the music of older Fire Emblem games ngl

-Boss Panic from Apidya

-Step on Beat from Outrun (Genesis)

-Canal Fleet from Ketsui

-nearly every final boss in Tales of

oh just remembered one that actively annoyed me while playing the game
starts off kinda unremarkable and then about 1:52 onward just goes into an utter mess of strings and brass over top a really basic repetitive drum. then it calms down a bit before jumping right back in

Hot take,

I despise this song.
lot of songs from this series have about 5 seconds that I like and then that's it

I don't actually hate this song, but it's kind of hysterical. Like, it seems as if it was composed with the intent to both make the listener A. be reminded of looney toons and B. have an anxiety attack.

It baffles me that it got a rhythm game, because I can only see a few songs working for it. And then it got two more, which is just the most surreal thing to me. P5 had good music, but P3? I know it would be unrealistic to expect something like Project Diva, but it really was a choice that could have been made.

I'm gonna nominate nearly everything Sakuraba Motoi has done since... like, 2005 or so? It's all so bland and forgettable! Like you know you just played a game and there was music, but it has no impact, which should be the mark of a bad soundtrack IMO.

Really, though, I just want to declare war on all textureless "cinematic" orchestral slop at this point. If there's not at least ONE song on your soundtrack that distracts me from the game for a moment and possibly gets me killed, I would say you've failed as a composer.

this song has 4 notes, and the area it plays in is fairly long.
what makes it funny is how much it stands out from the rest of the game, all the other tracks are pretty solid.
