gave it a go, it's visceral!
How did you get it to work? I tried using Retroarch and I can't get the controls to respond to it

Mine is the legendary Latino console, for me this was Steam, nothing more nothing less than...
I still have the cartridge that started it all, the very first game that started this journey was Mappy

Playing Yoshi Island and Gunstar Super Heroes on my sister's game boy advanced SD when I was 4/5. I got my first real independent gaming experience a little later when my dad got me a gamecube with some Sonic games. So my most valued early gaming experience was beating Tail's story in Sonic Adventure.

retroarch as well but on android, worked without a fuss with its gamepad overlay, I guess It's emulating the joystick?

my dad used to sit me on his lap when i was a baby while he'd play PC games, usually diablo or warccraft 3
he & his dad would always play diablo/diablo 2 together and i would play with them when i was old enough to click the mouse around & understand what was going on.
andarial from diablo 2 was the first video game boss i ever beat and i totally fell on the floor crying afterwards out of how scared i was lmfao

Anyone have this? lol

3 years old: I remember my mom setting up the 1st Mario on NES and I was immediately hooked. Played through a lotttt of the NES library until I was 7, then we got a Genesis, an N64 when I was almost 10, a modded PS1 in Riyadh for x-mas '98, a Dreamcast when I moved back to Ohio summer 2000, a PS2 autumn 2001, an Xbox and GameCube for x-mas 2001, a 360 July 2006, a PS3 x-mas 2008, then I found emulators by 2009 and the rest is history.

Basically, the only console I missed out on growing up was the Saturn and a Neo Geo CD. Which, considering most of the games wouldn't be translated for over 20 years, I'm not complaining.

My first gaming experience is the first Sonic the Hedgehog. Then I fell in love with a different genre that is rpg thanks to Phantasy Star 3 and Shining Force.

The first console was the NES (we call it a family game in Argentina) the game was Peter Pan and the Pirates or Excite Bike, both at a friend's house. But we also had (and still have) arcade games, there are a lot of them in the area where I live because it is a tourist town so they are working nowadays, my first arcade is difficult because I was very young, but I think it was Outrun .

Pokemon Firered and Yoshi's Island on my old Gamboy Micro when I was 5 or 6

Technically before that a thomas the tank engine edutainment game that i dont even remember the name of on my family's pc when i was like 3 or 4, but i dont really count that personally

Well this is gonna date me, but…

My first gaming experience was the Super Pong machine my parents got at Sears Roebuck. That's a pretty dim memory, though. The Atari 2600 we got when I was 5 is a much stronger memory.

I remember playing Super Mario Bros. on my cousin’s NES that she’d sometimes leave at my grandparents house when I was around 2. I still remember watching my uncle play Fester’s Quest for hours at a time.

My first console was the Philips G7000 and the first game I remember with any clarity was a Combat clone.
After that came the NES, a few standalone devices, and from there to the Nintendo and PC pipelines.

First ever experiences were with cartridges on knockoff Famicoms and Genesis devices, I vaguely remember Mario and Duck Hunt with a really terrible light gun type thing. My first PC experience is super fresh though, we'd just got a system at home and my parents were marvelling at Tally when a family friend showed up with a bunch of floppys, one of which had a copy of Doom. Life changing, lol.

This thread was making me feel really old haha. Thanks for sharing

I saw the legend of zelda commercial when i was 5 and i couldnt quite read the word "nintendo," or understand what the hell was going on in the commercial, but i could tell that i HAD to have it and that it started with an N, so i asked my parents to get me a "Nelda" for christmas, 1986.

fortunately, they figured it out hahaha

I think my first video game was Mario Bros for the Atari 2600. I was 4 years old in 1991 and my dad bought me a second hand 2600 with a few games. The one I remember most vividly was Mario Bros. I would say despite the extreme limitations of the 2600 it was a pretty good port that manages to replicate the gameplay of the arcade classic quite well.

the first game I ever played was I think NFS Underground 2 on gamecube, my memory of that time is hazy so it could've also been the demo for Halo 3 ODST (which I think came out around the same time as when my dad decided to give me and my brother his old Gamecube)

Grew up playing arcade games early on my parents would take me to the local arcade venue once a month and especially on my birthday to play the latest games. As for my first home console it was the NES with Super Mario Bros. / Duck Hunt then Tiny Toons, Little Nina Brothers, Fester's Quest, Little Nemo, The Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout, we would rent games frequently my favorites being Blaster Master, Mega Man 2, Rockin' Kats, Yo! Noid, Bucky O'Hare, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, DuckTales.

Fascinating history! Very similar to mine at the same age back in the late 80s my mom also set up Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt on NES. We would eventually rent games once a week at the local video store. Then we got a SNES, GB Pocket, an Sega Saturn when I was 9, then PS1 (eventually modded it to play imports) for Christmas in '98, a Dreamcast in 9/9/99, a PS2 in 2001, an GameCube a few years later, a 360 in 2006, PSP and Nintendo DS Lite. Although I would discover emulation/roms/torrents/back-ups in the early 2000s from p2p clients, iRC networks, filesharing websites and various secured forums.

The consoles I missed out growing up were the Nintendo 64 and Neo Geo AES/CD (and a few others like SMS, GEN, TG16, 3DO, XBOX, PS3). I'm super grateful for the translation boom the past decade.

My first gaming experience was when I was 3. Crash Twinsanity came out that year and my mom's boyfriend at the time bought it and played with me. Set me on a long ass path from that point. One of my first deeper memories though is taking turns on SSX 3 with my mom, She used Zoe all the time and I liked Psymon. She dropped off of games after the 360 era because games got way too complex, but she used to tear up SSX and NFS all the time when I was little.

my first time playing or seeing a video game was at a flea market when i was about 4 or 5. i played a few minutes of super mario bros 1 on a small little box shaped tv. my parents bought it and i got to take the system and game home with me.

The local shopping mall had 2 video arcades at opposite sides of the mall. one closed within a year of our family moving to the area, but the bigger one lasted through my high school years.

I can't remember my actual first game, but I do remember playing Q'bert, Dig Dug, Pac-Man, and Dragon's Lair. Donkey Kong always had to long of a line for me to play in the arcade.
