What are your gaming translation white whales? Games you want to see translated but feel it'll never happen?

SFC Metal Max 2. I've already played it several times and also played the remake but the original deserves a translation too.
Me and you , brother !

I could try the DS-remake but the Snes version feels more like home and its original graphics have sonething that makes it stand out.

Loved Metal Max Returns and it became one of my another favourite games that are seen as a must-have on every Snes-emulator i have .

Even the original Artstyle is more grungy and individualisticly grounded . The later ones get a bit too anime-generic for my taste .

Im a big fan of Koei, so any of the Daikoukai Jidai games we never got to play out here in the west, same with Ishin no Arashi on NDS, or some of the Taiko Risshiden games..

I also wanted to play some of the Fist of the North Star super famicom RPGs. Another Franchise i really enjoy was the River King fishing games. A couple got released in the west but not all of them. Im especially interested in the ones they released on super famicom and PSX, like Umi no Nushi Tsuri ,Kawa no Nushi Tsuri etc..

man.. i would love to play some of those. It annoys me how people went and translated the OG games. Whole point of playing these games IMO is to be able to play as the robots from all of these classic japanese tv shows, hear the theme songs, look at their specials etc.. Couldn't care less about Banpresto's original creations. Don't get me wrong, Super Robot Taisen Original Generation on PS2 isn't a bad game, but without the licensed content, it feels like something is missing from the game.
welcome to the srw community when they only care about srw alpha, z and ogs saga everything else the game is trash or bad for example i beat shin srw and say it was good game but nooo i got too much flak for saying shin srw was good game and Ryusei was wasn't a super jerk person hance why super robot wars is very niche game and no one dont want to fan translated because they dont wont to get super backlash from other westerns fan who only care about srw alpha, z and ogs saga

Odin sphere was published by atlus in the west which is known for their translation quality in the ps2 era (usually) so odin sphere is probably fine, can't comment on 13 sentinels.
I win 13 sentinels some weeks ago and was a blast and all coherent story. idk what type of error they are taking about, characters don't say onii-chan?

Typical localizer drivel. Censoring/toning down dialogue, changing characterizations, inserting memes where they shouldn't be. The same garbage plaguing most Japanese game's translations nowadays.

I just see normal localization stuff? some sexual assault implications lost or one or two memes with the same final message don't make the game bad at all? I think that type of localization make the game better.
A literal translation 1:1 is not a good localization. For that you can use a IA or something.
Think about general audience and not just hardcore white otakus.

Got way too many to mention, so here's a few:

I prefer translations to be as accurate to the original as possible, without censorship or changes.

I would even mention the complaints from most players that played the daikaiju monogakari duology, saying that most of the translations are too political, and it seriously needs a retranslation faithful to the original script from the ground up

There are 3 games I really want to play fully translated. I think it wouldn't be too difficult to translate two of them but I'll post it anyway.

Valis 4 - PC Engine CD Rom. Yes I know there's an english version available for the Switch if you buy Valis Collection 2. In fact, it's the only reason for me to want to buy a Switch. The PC Valis collection in Steam is nothing but a bunch of Japanese versions that are untranslated but come with videos showing the translation. I'd love to see everything translated and not just the cutscenes, but the signs you can read mid-game and the unique dialogue for all 3 characters when they meet a boss. (I can't bring myself to buy a Switch for just one game.)

Fighter's History: Mizoguchi Kiki Ippatsu - This is a sort of a funny sequel to the arcade game Fighter's History. Yes, it's the infamous franchise that Capcom tried to sue for infringing on Street Fighter 2. Good thing they didn't win otherwise, we'd never get Fatal Fury, King of Fighters or any of those other great Fighting game franchises. Since I'm already playing Fighter's History and Karnov's Revenge, I really want to see a translation of this especially since it continues the story and completes the franchise as well as having a unique boss not present in the arcade version. There's a 95% translated playthrough of this by NintendoComplete in Youtube though.

Shin Super Robot Wars - Now this is a white whale. It's the first SRW game made for PS1...I think but what really draws me to this one is it's more focused on Voltes V compared to the other games, which is a series famous in the Philippines where I live. Also, the robots aren't depicted in a chibi state which is a plus for me. I would love to see this one translated some day and I bet a lot of people in my country would say the same thing for the same reasons above.

Found this in the repo and it look cool.

Also a growlanser 1 translation would be nice

The Another Century games

Officially, Growlanser 1, and Namco X Capcom - though Namco X Capcom has a fan translation, and Growlanser 1 has one in the works

I'd love for someone to release ACCURATE translations for the Trails series, and Valkyria Chronicles series, because the official translations are garbage.

An accurate translation for Final Fantasy VIII, because that official translation is garbage. Same with Final Fantasy Tactics, and Unicorn Overlord.

Accurate translations for the later Fire Emblem games, because those official translations are beyond garbage.
Since the Final Fantasy Tactics remaster just got announced, and its confirmed to be the WOTL translation, I am once again asking for an accurate, faithful, non-flowery, non-punched up, non-censored fan translation of the Final Fantasu Tactics games.

About that literal vs non-literal discussion thing. I think some of you guys are a bit confused. Literal translation doesn't mean neither lower nor higher quality.
There is always a degree of creative freedom and the final result will vary depending on the context, intention and preference of the translator. But as a rule of thumb the translated text should follow the original piece as faithfully as possible. With that said this will lead to an attempt to copy the same words and/or style or the adoption of a completely new way to express the same idea.
As an example: "raining cats and dogs", ideally should NOT be translated to "lloviendo gatos y perros" (the literal translation) but to "lloviendo a cántaros" [raining pots].
The quality a translation, I would say, is on how faithful the original ideas are copied to the translated text, without omissions, or censorship.
However, you should not confuse quality with fun - with how entertaining it can be. An original piece can be less fun, than an adaptation/free transtation.
Ultimately, the preference will always be in the eye of the beholder.
