I read the game is pretty laggy (specially as you progress) and I want to optimize it so that I don't get a bad experience playing it. Thx in advance

Sadly the best way to optimize your experience is probably to play on PC.

There's not much you can do on console, sadly, to improve a game. If some sort of external patch could be applied at runtime, maybe, but it's doubtful such improvement patch exists.

if any one says install a SSD they are lying as most games run straight from disc and the Sata on a ps3 are not that good for SSD.

All can give tips on
Clear the cache by going into the power menu. Uninstall every game other than Fallout. Keep cleaning the save folder every few saves. Disable auto save on fast travel.

Other than this, DON'T INSTALL THE DLCs unless you want trouble.

But it will never run full 60fps but it will be playable. Best way is to use a PC but if you don´t have specs for it sadly nothing can be done and honestly it´s sad to see there are people out there today with PC´s that are old or way way out of specs.

I said this once and I say it 1000 times more today I prefer to play on PC but honestly how expensive it is I would almost say PC gaming is Rich people past time.

Another tip I can give you is if you have a PC with at least dual core cpu and 4gb of ram and win10 you and a good internet connect with at least 25 Mbps. And is willing to pay I think 9.99 bucks a month then you can use Geforce now which is baiscly cloud gaming then you can run Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 and even fallout 76 on max setting even if you PC can´t handle it.

I use Geforce now my self to play some games my PC can´t handle that well like MH wild and Cyberpunk.
Sure my PC can run does games but I wanna run them on max setting which my PC can´t so.

hey man, Bethesda games on PS3 is a matter of luck. I played Fallout 3 back in the day on a fat PS3, launch japanese version, and had no problem at all. a few years later I tried New Vegas and, DAMN, it was just impossible. Skyrim was great for many hours, but ended freezing so much I gave up. try to play it without worring so much, maybe it'll go smoothly for you too.

I agree, Bethesda on console is a big lottery. On PC too, but there's more you can do on PC.

Stumbled on this old post from 14 years ago, and theyre probably just convincing themselves these things work somehow, but hey, why not give it a shot, check it:

One of the biggest problems of that game (and some other Bethesda titles) on the PS3 is the save data too. The more you play, the larger your save data gets (all the items you get, all the decisions, etc) and it can get to the point where the game becomes unplayable. Apparently the quick save (resting) and auto-saves aren't affected.
The best advice I can give you is to rely mostly on auto-save and try to focus mostly on story quests to try to keep your save lean.

I figured that was the case (love your avatar by the way).
