Manga What are some of your favorite manga?

Some of you are definitely on my wavelength in terms of what you like. I've enjoyed Hideo Yamamoto's manga; especially Homunculus and Ichi the Killer; I feel it's far superior to the film which focused on the exploitative elements and essentially became just a shock-piece. It was essentially about the cyclical nature of trauma and in a perverse way; a love story about the fated "joining" of the ultimate sadist with the ultimate masochist.

At least, that's what I thought it my twenties. Now in my forties, I do find it a bit too exploitative and controversial for controversy's-sake. It's still "an important" read.

However, "The World is Mine" is absolutely fantastic. Some of the most well-written, idiosyncratic characters ever written. Arai has the ability to give every character, no matter how minor, a soul. Absolutely fantastic Manga. Love it!

On the surface, it's about about one amoral killer and one immoral killer, but ultimately the fate of the world rests on the repercussions of their actions.

Yoshiki Takaya seems to have some problem with finishing a story, unfortunately.

I bought the original Project Zeorymer manga, which is really good, but um... don't read it on the bus; if you get my drift.

Finally, after around 20 years he included the final chapters at the end of the tankōbon.

I need to re-read this one:

I already love Tezuka's work as well as Monster so that's a perfect crossover to me.

This is very chill in comparison to the rest of the recommendations here but I really love Yotsuba&! Very relaxing, funny, and engaging read. Also makes for great language immersion with it being translated and localised in a whole bunch of languages. Brings a lot of joy to me when down in the dumps.

Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Tenchi Muyo, Case Closed, Zelda Twilight Princess, Yotsuba&! Ghost in the Shell and Calvin and Hobbes.

Just to make things easier for people, I'm probably gonna not include my obscure SD Gundam stuff this time.

But here are some of my favorite series I've read so far:
-Black Jack
-Bleach (Please note I'm watching the anime for the final arc. Please do not discuss spoilers with me.)
-Rurouni Kenshin
-Sket Dance (It's a great comedy manga that also hits you in the feels and I love it for that)
-Shugo Chara (I will admit this one is mostly here because I have nostalgia for it, but I still love it.)

Thought I had posted in this thread, but I guess not:
Crows is my favorite, and the story continues in WORST and some shorter side stories. Also in Mr. Zetton, which is currently running. Delinquent manga, turf war and everyone looks cool.

Other series I like a lot, in no order: Sanctuary, One Piece, Yotsuba, Himizu, Ciguatera, Golgo 13, Fist of the North Star, Blue Spring, Lady Snowblood, Anne of Green Gables, and a bunch of others. Those are just the main ones that jump out in my brain.

- slam dunk
- vagabond
- gamaran
- berserk
- vinland saga
- great teacher onizuka
- kokou no hito (the climber)
- full metal alchemist
- gintama
- golden kamuy
- shin angyo onshi
- getbackers
- break blade
- hokuto no ken
- d gray man
- magi

are some of my favorites

I like Hitoshi Ashinano's stuff. Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou is still one of my favorites. I also liked Kabu no Isaki by him, which I read last year.

I haven't read a ton of manga - but everything I've read, I've greatly enjoyed, luckily. I have the big Akira set from Katsuhiro Otomo, Ghost in the Shell from Shirow Masamune, Tomie, Uzumaki, and a few other random Junji Ito series... I love all of these dearly!

Personally, I enjoy reading than watching the anime adaptations, but I'm probably in the minority, especially in the West.

My all time favorites are:

Lone Wolf and Cub
Banana Fish
AKIRA
Phoenix
Dragon Ball
Slam Dunk
Guyver
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Star Crusaders, and Jojolion
Gantz
Aho Girl
School Rumble
Jujutsu Kaisen
Death Note

Currently reading and enjoying:

Peace Maker
Platinum End
Future Diary
Kaiju No.8
Gahiakuta
Kingdom
Saint Seiya Next Dimension
Adolf

Oh shit, I forgot about Aho Girl, that was a great one.

I think we had a similar thread recently, but iirc I said Crows (and Worst, QP, etc), Sanctuary, and I forget what else. I read a lot of manga and also prefer it to watching.

[edit - wait, we did have this thread before and OP posted in it??????? haha]

My favourite of all time will always be Real by Takehiko Inoue
Other than that
Slam Dunk
Vagabond
Fullmetal Alchemist
Eyeshield 21
Gashbell
One Punch Man
Dragonball
Just to name a few, I could make a list much longer than this but I've got an Anilist that I made one time that I rarely use

Random order:

1-Naruto (especially the first part for the story and the amazing drawings)
2-Dragon Ball (same as above)
3-Hunter x Hunter (until the end of the Greed Island saga)
4-Rave
5-Fairy Tail
6-Bleach
7-One Piece (until Thriller Barks and skipping to the Punk Hazard and Dressrosa one)
8-Hajime No Hippo
9-Fire Force

Same I prefer reading the manga first before I watch an anime or if it's based on a light novel I'll prefer to read that before I read the manga. I prefer experiencing the source material first I'm kind of the same with video games where I'll play the original game before the remake (mostly because I do not enjoy most remakes)

Some of my favorite manga is probably JoJo's (the whole thing), Chainsaw Man, Sentai Daishikkaku, Kagurabachi, Destory it all and Love Me in Hell, The Summer You Were Here, Bloom Into You and the Monster wants to eat me.

I plan to read or am currently reading Nana, Kamen Rider Kuuga (I want to watch Kuuga and Agito first since I hear it's an adaptation of both), Fire Punch and lastly I plan to read The Rose of Versailles. Also it's not a manga but I want to read I'm in Love with the Villainess novels and light novels at some point.

I saw the name Inoue and immediately assumed you were talking about Toshiki Inoue of Kamen Rider fame lol
