what are some modern games you enjoy?

Any modern final fantasy game is good, Marvel Rivals has been fun with friends, and Rise of the Ronin is fun. It's mostly just remakes and rereleases nowadays though that I ever pay attention to, along with sequels. EDF is good like you mentioned. I don't think gaming or anything is changing too much, I'm sure I'd find lots to love if I just looked harder, I still find modern games fun.

Pokemon Cafe Remix, not the biggest Spinoff but a soothing chill game to take a quick break from everything, also you unlock relatively easly your characters

It's not weird but I've played these since Freedom Unite and I didn't miss the "older feeling". World was crunchy, fluid and had more dynamism overall. I felt like evolving the series that hard caused this contempt from older fans. I've had this discussion many many times with my best friend (who I played P3, 3U, 4U, Generations)
I'll play modern, sure, but generations 3 and 4 were the ones I enjoy most.

I don't particularly consider generation 5 to be an evolution as much as it is a westernization, and I don't appreciate the visual shift, but the fact Rise pushed back on the dark, gritty, realistic feel made me appreciate it.

For perspective, I'm not a series dinossaur, it's not nostalgia, it is feeling (when I started, MH World was already out), I just chose to start with Portable Third).

Will I play Wilds? absolutely. Will I enjoy it? absolutely. Is it how I feel Monster Hunter is at its best? absolutely not.

The new Silent Hill 2 Remake is really good and i quite enjoyed it. I can recommend it to anyone who liked the original.

Metaphor has been pretty good to me.
I have heard so many conflicting things about this game it’s unreal. I don’t really have any interest in it, but I very much am interested in how polarizing it’s been to the broader gaming community.

I've maybe already said this on another post, but it kicks off with an engaging premise, assassinations and a magic election, everything feels fresh. Then say twenty or thirty hours in, all of it settles like debris, and you can clearly make out Persona 6. Really, Persona 5, the plot structure is frustratingly similar in places.

There's also the game's greatest sin - the complete removal of Hulkenberg's ass.

But, like… is that a bad thing? Do people not want that? Doesn’t everyone love Persona? I thought that was the appeal of this game — that it was a spiritual successor to that series. I’m really out of my depth on this, because I hate all these stupid YA JRPG things and have never even come close to playing any of them.

For me it's been ffxiv, Anything that vanillaware makes most recently unicorn overlord and 13 sentienels aegis rim ( it's a mecha visual novel/tactics based game), tales of berseria ( i know it was released in 2016 but god it was so good and arise was okay imo ), Stranger of paradise FF was a fun time and yeah it's stupid cheese, but FF has always been a cheesy franchise, and lastly Astral chain, it's a damn shame that game is stuck on the switch.

Shit, I knew I forgot something.

It's not "bad", it just underwhelms. Or, "whelms", I guess. I don't really want to get into spoilers but suffice to say the central premise devolves into boilerplate JRPG, resolving some plots with a thud and at least one section that feels genuinely unfinished. (The magic academy and the boss you meet there, for anyone whose played it.)

I, for one, hate Persona, so even if the whole world loves it, it still wouldn't be a complete consensus, haha. I much prefer Shin Megami Tensei. Always have, always will.

I still keep up with both gta and Yakuza.
I’ve played a couple ps4 rpgs if that counts.
I still also occasionally buy the newer wwe games.
Maybe fifa and pes but it’s been a while since I played those. Same with call of duty and battlefield.

Initially loathed the idea of Diablo 2 Resurrected but still spent over 300 hours on it on PS5. It's almost uncanny how well it clicked with the original once you start playing it. Some of the QoL changes regarding immunity were also done quite well and it's actually quite fun to play with a controller (unless you play any character with range)

I haven’t played any of them. :( From over the past decade, though, I’ve really liked Breath of the Wild, Doom 2016, and The Caribbean Sail. Uh… that’s it, I think.
The fact that "modern" doom is almost already a decade old is an endorsement to the fact that time is moving to damn fast and need's to slow its ass down.

It won't, as you grow older the perception of time going faster will increase; so please adjust properly your seat belt and have a safe travel.

My modern experiences now days are from the 2010's, not exactly modern like the other said. DOOM 2016, Terraria, Minecraft, Risk of Rain and Monster Hunter World are some examples. From this year and the last year i've enjoyed Vampire Survivors, Buckshot Roulette and Fire Emblem Engage. I am not much of a shooter guy but i enjoy some Valorant with my IRL friends here and there. But to be honest i ve been playing mostly remaster, collections and rereleases more than actual new games. Now i ve been playing the Castlevania Dominus collection, Doom 1+2 and Sonic Origins(modded of course) to give some examples.
