Waffles Vs. Pancakes!

I'm more of a Donut Guy

I don't mind either. But I have to get a word in for a character from an anime I like...

Neither is very common here, but I'm slightly more familiar with pancakes. That said, the fact @Waffles made a point to humorously post here basically justifies this topic, haha.

Oh wait, you don't mean that. A shame. But really, it's an almost impossible choice for me to make. Pancakes are usually my go to because waffle makers are more annoying to clean over a pan. I can make a pretty damn good pancake as well. Most recipes work but the real secret is adding really good vanilla to it. This applies to waffles too. So pancakes have a slight edge because I'm lazy. The taste and texture are on even terms as far as I'm concerned. However, when I was living in Amsterdam I had the absolute best waffles I've ever tasted. It was crispy on the outside, pillowy on the inside and the sugar had like crystalized on the outside. Didn't need syrup or anything. 10/10, get your shit together USA. Fresh stroopwafels are also damn near perfect.

So I guess waffles win in the end because of those experiences. I'll still be making pancakes most of the time though.

I give a slight edge to pancakes, but both are good. As with others though, put some french toast in front of me, I'm taking that first.

It depends on if you go with freshly made or store-bought. And I think that biases some people's answers, because a lot of people have cooked pancakes before but don't have a waffle iron ready to make waffles. So there are likely some people who only had waffles in the form of Eggos and other store-bought junk. If that's the case, then of course pancakes are better. Even store-bought pancakes are fluffier than the overly crispy, overly processed store-bought waffle.

However, waffles straight off the iron are fantastic. They're light and fluffy like pancakes, but they have a texture unlike what you could get from their simpler brethren. And the Belgian variety is heavenly, especially if you take the time to add toppings like whip cream, chocolate syrup, and fruit (which seem to hold in place a bit better than on a pancake). And nobody ever has chicken & pancakes on the menu. (If you haven't tried chicken & waffles, you don't know what you're missing.)

As for their other brethren, french toast is good, but lacks the fluff factor. It does have one advantage in that it goes better with cinnamon than most others, but the others work better with fruit, which is a bigger advantage.

Crepes are okay, but I could never really get into them like with the others mentioned above. They're a little too light for a breakfast food. What's more, they are harder to make and tend to be priced uncompetitively against the others.

As for donuts, it depends. Dunkin' is a shadow of its former self. They are mostly sugar now, never freshly baked, and their "get a free donut with your coffee" deal annoys me because that "donut" doesn't apply to all donuts that they sell. Nonetheless, I have enjoyed some from independent donut shops, which are doing well with the fancier stuff these days (which Dunkin seems to just screw up whenever they apply their austerity practices to them).

I personally like waffles more!
Mainly when they are more soft but not Crispy as some people like em.

I like them because the ease of putting toppings on them like Chocolate Chip or Peanut Butter chips. Some may look at the disadvantages like spreading butter since the butter can drip into each little hole of a waffle. But overall I dig them! But damn do I miss my Grandma's waffles that she made when I was a kid, It was so good and sweet and fluffy with this buttery flavor to it.
