Vaporwave Thread - Vaporwave saved my life.

I listened Macintosh Plus 420 one time while I sleeping during a car trip and an absolute soft-spot for it. I need to get back into this genre because it has been awhile.

I've been very into vaporwave, it's good to listen to when commuting I think. An artist I've been listening to a bunch this past day or two is desert sand feels warm at night.
Vapor Memory and Nightwave Plaza are the places for that!

Mac plus 420 is so so good. Great sleepy chillest music

I am 100% sure "Enjoy Yourself" by Saint Pepsi is Vapour, but I like "Cherry Pepsi" better since it reminds me of Summer, and that's not quite the Vapour Vibe.
INB4 Is Coke okay?

Yesss I love vaporwave, I've never "gotten over that phase", and I'm glad the fad died because now I can enjoy it without it being a meme (although I always purely enjoyed it).

This is probably my favourite vaporwave track ever, and of course I listened to it while drinking beer and smoking in an Osaka outer stairway at 6 in the morning

A lot of the vaporwave stuff I used to enjoy has been lost to the sands of time and memory, but of course the big artists and albums come to mind. Macintosh Plus and Blank Banshee.

There were also bandcamp rappers like Kill Bill using the style in their beats. His album Ramona has some good examples.

Kinda wanna track down my old soundcloud account and see if I can find some of that old stuff. Truthfully, once you listen to enough vaporwave, you realize a lot of it is just half-assed edits of 70's-80's japanese pop music. Still good, but kinda just makes you more interested in that avenue of music.

Vaporwave has kind of faded from the zeitgeist ever since 80s/90s throwbacks became old hat and things shifted towards bringing back Y2K Frutiger Aero aesthetics, but I still enjoy listening to the genre.

Floral Shoppe is a notable album, of course, but News at 11 is also a standout one for me.

I get this, but I honestly felt that more with Future Funk than Vaporwave. Notable example:

I used to be really into it back in the day during the last few years of my school days (2013-2016, I guess what many would call the golden age of vaporwave). I liked a lot of the staple artists people have already mentioned here like macintosh plus 420, 2814, t e l e p a t h, Blank Banshee, VAPERROR etc. I think like a lot of people; I feel like it eventually ran its course and hit its natural conclusion as a musical genre (Of the artists I listed, the ones who're still active in the music scene sound nothing like their old stuff). I still listen to some of that older stuff, and I'd like to highlight someone who I always felt was a bit underrated in the scene:

Cyberlust was so underrated.

I liked most of the music I heard. I remember when I first heard a vaporwave track on New Wave Retro's channel and just thought "Oh, hey, really nice New Wave Revival"

But, tbh, the genre just kind of faded from either lack of creativity or too many people trying to add their own flavor to it, same with New Wave Revival

I heard some bits and did this piece inspired by Vaporwave some years ago:

Yaaaas I'm into New Wave and dance music and that's what really attracted me to Vaporwave. I also just love that old school asethetic

Future Funk
Future funk was WAY more of a 1:1 thing for sure, you're totally right. Vaporwave had some interesting stuff happening. Future funk was straight up lazy in my opinion

Dress Down is fantastic, great taste. Put Cologne on sometime, the transition from track 2 into that song is magic.

Also give Meiko Nakahara a shot, totally unrelated I just really love her.

Yeah I miss listening to vaporwave. Blank Banshee, Windows96, Saint Pepsi, Vaperror, etc. Was pretty great study music but also generally just really good to listen to whenever I had so much anxiety/stress. My listening unfortunately tapered off after 2020 though pretty hard so I'd say I don't listen to it anymore (I half outgrew it/felt like it was time to move on bc things didn't feel the same). I really should get back into it though. Some cool albums I remember listening to:

The aesthetic is okay, but I do like the music. It's perfect for just idly browsing the internet with in the background, or complimenting some grinding I'm doing in a game or something.

I don't really curate any playlists or have a favorite artist anything like that though. I just search on Youtube and find compilations or albums to stick on. It's the same way I listen to Future Funk, other 'wave' type music, City Pop, etc.

I've multiple, but I also like to listen at random
