Unsatisfying endings.

One of the most unsatisfying endings for me has to be Saints Row 2.
The game is an absolute masterpiece. Easily the best in the Saints Row franchise, and also easily in my top ten if not top five favourite games of all time. But that ending man... you basically fly to the top of a building and shoot a guy in the face. Bing, bang, boom, it's done. No flare, no nothing.
It was weirdly down-to-earth and realistic, which was in stark contrast to how the rest of the game had been ramping up until that point.

I personally don't like Saints Row the Third (both too over the top and not enough), but at least that game had a fitting bombastic ending. Heck, all of the Saints Row games had a fitting ending.
But Saints Row 2, despite being such an awesome game, just stumbled at the finish line. It was like blowing up a balloon, bigger and bigger, and just when you think it's about to pop... a tiny hole rips open and the air very slowly wheezes out.

I believe that most games have crappy endings. It is very rare to find a satisfying one. It would be more productive to list the games with good endings.
I definitely agree with this, story is typically a secondary concern with games, and the nature of rewarding the player means that a standard cathartic ending is the norm. Picture most JRPG's finding their way around to "then all my friends showed up and we kicked evil's ass with love and Lvl 5. Death spells." It doesn't really matter what the road looked like, the destination was always the same.
The fallout series has the laziest of the bunch. A PowerPoint presentation after doing some serious ass kicking and saving the world from mutants. I guess it is technically not a bad ending, just a lazy one.
I definitely *don't* agree with this, I've earned my ending slide! I'm dying to know how my choices impacted each community or faction, and what do you mean Gecko's fucked?!

I had a whole wall of text typed out about storytelling in gaming and how its reliance on well-worn tropes and refusal to evolve, experiment or change which age group its targeted towards is getting more and more frustrating to see the older I get and how it tends to ruin potentially relatable stories and yadda yadda yadda, but then I fat-fingered it and deleted the whole thing. Yay. 😅

Off the top of my head, I definitely hated the ending of FFXIII, it felt like they had no idea how to get their characters where they wanted them and so they just... had them forget the whole story and act utterly nonsensically so as to contrive the ending they wanted? Genuinely baffling.

Fair enough. I feel bad for mentioning it. I just dislike the whole power point aesthetic for endings. Give me a cutscene at the very least.

It would have been nice to see some of the flair of the opening cinematics in the endings.

Megaman Legends 2, due to cliffhanger ending that was left well, hanging, for 23 years.

Entire game is great on it's own, but leaving the protagonist stuck at the moon and them never doing anything new to the series years later left a bad taste when I finished Legends 2.

The majority of the game is shit, unfortunately.
I'd say there is some merit to the stages and monster design. The war against the twisted is an interesting setting and the gameplay, although barebones, is serviceable. But the story is so bad that it drags everything down. As a kid, when i didn't know how to speak english, i though that game was awesome, i came up with a bunch of crazy ideas to explain why the things in the game happened that way... oh, how i wish that the theories i made were the real deal because reality can be so cruel sometimes.

As for the thread topic: Klonoa 1 has an ending that comes from the left field. Almost completely random and leaves you feeling sad for no reason other that the devs wanting to give you a gut punch after saving the haha funny dream land so you won't feel so good about beating a game about inflation. Good game, recommended.

The ending to Fallout 3 was rather goofy and anticlimactic.

IDk if hidden/"True" endings count but...
The 100% Compendium ending is dreck, then again, the Vanilla game still feels empty, but in a more realized "I won... but i did the right thing?" sense since you killed the reason the city still lives, but the full ending...
Etria goes empty since you revealed every secret, so no longer they can thrive on the secrets of the Labyrinth...WAT
There is still a remnant of the civilization that existed before Etria heck THE FRIGGIN FINAL DUNGEON HAPPENS INSIDE THE BUILDING THAT CREATED THE ENTIRE MESS IN THE FIRST PLACE can they just investigate it now that they have the research to not die investigating? It's just fjiñodsjgfñsadgñodakfghsgfagadfñ *Calms himself* A good game while far from the best of the OG trilogy, but so much for beating a bonus dungeon harder than all of SMT together

Assassin's Creed 3 for me. Hated what they did with Desmond and the modern day sections of the later games suffered because of it.

Oh man if we are talking about endings i wasn't the biggest fan of Terraningma's ending
