Not sure about this, but the circumstances made the lyrics funny (in a way, at least in my circle back then)

Back in 2008, this aired:

and all of my female ex-classmates (we already graduated) present back then were unanimous in saying it was creepy, thus we had a discussion

Carey's original song was light, upbeat and in a dark way, "kurayzee" (as in, don't stick ur D in "kurayzee") as one of the girls said

Cook's, OTOH, cooked: it was a creepy stalker, up there with Def Leppard's "Two Steps Behind", the girls said

The guys were wondering (I didn't watch the show, so cannot join in) if Cook really thought about his effect on the song when he chose that to appeal to Carey (they used the term "suck up"; my question: did he?)

Then one of the guys said, this is a song to be sung after you dropped the soap; we guys laughed as the girls were disgusted (after it got explained to them)

As a parting shot, a girl said "close your eyes and listen to the song (cover)'s chorus, just imagine what kind of guy will sing that to you"

Yeah, it'll be Bubba from prison, all right

And that made it morbidly funny

I've always pondered the intent behind most of the chorus to Layers by Kidneythieves.

"Back when they were teaching me to color in between the lines.
In the cushion of my soul I found a remote and now it's changing time."

Like, I get what it's trying to say, but surely Free Dominguez or Bruce Somers must have thought "Okay, this sounds really goofy." at least once during the creation of the song. One of my favorites of their songs, but the most puzzling.

Trent is enough of a goofball that this might have been intentionally silly, but early in Getting Smaller by Nine Inch Nails he drops this on us.

"I've got my arms that flip, flop, flip, flop, flip!"

What the heck Trent? I'm sure there's some deeper meaning to this, but I do not know what it is. Then again, this is also the goof who had this in the first song he ever wrote "Rain rain go away, come again some other day." It was also the first released single off his first album! I guess that means I have two examples by Nine Inch Nails now.

Funny how no one is talking about "Dave Mustaine's 'Balls'", where he sounds like he is saying balls in a few of is his songs.

In Megadeth's "Symphony of Destruction", one of the lyrics is supposed to be

You try to take it's pulse,

However, it sounds like

You try to take his balls,

This is a surprisingly common thing. You can look it up, though I would warn you about the contents when searching up "Dave Mustaine Balls"

There's plenty of songs by The Smashing Pumpkins that have nonsensical edgelord lyrics, but the all-time peak of Billy Corgan's half-assed attempts to sound hard was "X.Y.U.", which sounds like he's trying to show us what The Jesus Lizard would sound like if their lyrics were written by a 13 year old. And while multiple parts of the song are laughably edgelordy and childish, the one moment that it gets so inane that you can't stop yourself from falling over laughing is this one infamous line that he just had to put by itself in the break:

"And in the eyes of the jackal, I say, KA-BOOM!"
