Underhated games

All the hentai games that make the steam top 10 are not hated enough. Those games look so stupid. Im not morally against hentai but the games just look terrible and gross.
It's shovelware, but I do believe good eroge exist:
Senran Kagura Estival Versus is not bad and the Dungeon Travelers games are actually really good, and way better than most dprg I've played.
There's also all the Alicesoft games, I never played Rance but I'll probably try Sengoku one day

So many normal enemies felt like mini-bosses.
Maybe the revenants
the world just wasn't very interesting to explore
Yes, I'd liked the games more if it wasn't open world. I just want those "legacy dungeons" strung together like the old games.
Aside from that, the level design is not very good and the game's levels provide zero challenge aside from the bosses: You can avoid most enemies with ease and just rush, the game almost never forces to face them like DS1

Everyone hates Call of Duty, even Call of Duty fans
But I feel like they hate it for the wrong reasons. It’s valid to hate its boring gameplay but the series and other games like it should be hated much more openly and ferociously for being disgustingly blatant propaganda for the military industrial complex. Due to the licensing of the tech and weaponry it also literally contributes financially to wars and suffering.

Fr, love how ppl focus on hating on the new wave of woke propaganda on games but fail to realize propaganda has been a thing since so long ago with games that are so popular

i hate elden ring. i love the fights but i hate exploring it since it's so dark and gloomy all the time. explore this and explore that and it's all a blob of grey

Elden ring is more colorful than the other souls

"Woke propaganda" huh? Right…

I guess people love to be terminally angry at minorities because they can’t think beyond pre-programmed responses written for them by literal fascists. Sounds like a pretty pathetic existence to me, but that’s to be expected of death cults

I have a few popular games I can't stand but the first one that comes to mind is Night in the Woods.
It tries to be funny when it shouldn't and it fails at that, the writting is bad, the characters insufferable and the few gameplay segments lazy. I also don't get people who say that they relate to the protagonist struggles because she has mental health problems, when her struggles are
that she got possesed and almost violently killed someone
, pretty horrible. Also I don't like the music.
Whining over, the visuals are cool tho...

I think that most people have trouble articulating this, and I do too, but to me I feel like most people don't hate the minorities themselves. I think that it comes from this feeling that what they call "woke" is just triple A games treating it as a selling point without putting any actual effort or respect into it. There ARE good games made by minorities, featuring minorities or about minorities that are very good and beloved. I am not denying terminally online people who hate these games BECAUSE of it or that they're rasist don't exist, you're not wrong on that at all, I just think that there are many in the middle of the crossfire who notice how a lot of this triple A "representation" is just trying to bitterly sell a product. I haven't played Veilguard but that scene everybody shared of the character doing push ups as a punishment for misgendering someone comes to mind. To whom is that scene directed? Is a petty revenge fantasy, just make the characters respect the pronous of all of them always and treat them like normal people, plus the character coming out as nonbinary is not bad but it was a missed opportunity to write a better way to portray how a situation like that could go along, especially in a fantasy setting where gender roles could be played with more freely...
Sorry for derailing, just wanted to say my opinion.

When something deemed not woke has poor writing its just called poor writing.
When something deemed woke has poor writing, it is called propaganda. There is no "trouble with articulating" when using that verbage, really. If you just view something as having poor writing you can just say as much. People would only say it in that way if they have an agenda beyond that.

I'm not gonna get into the whole thing here cause this will probably never be the place, but when someone says "woke propaganda" its doing more than just saying they think the writing is bad or something.

I understand where the energy comes from but I don't think this level of aggression is gonna do anything but derail the thread completely and more importantly, end up with someone getting banned.

Yeah fair point, personally I think there's more nuance to it but I think it's a me thing, you're not in the wrong...

Going back to the thread topic and to end that discussion, I cannot forgive Pokemon for the Dexit fiasco and the quality of their recent games, I know most people are aware but it still baffles me how they're still releasing games that look and play like that and with so many people buying them anyways

I’ve just had it with the anti-woke stuff, the endless dogwhistles and the discourse on people’s literal existence, especially in the current rapidly worsening geo-political reality. If this forum turned out to be a place where anti-woke nonsense goes unchallenged I’ll gladly leave.

But alright, let’s get back on topic:
I don’t think the dynasty warriors series and adjacent games get enough criticism. They are fun enough but they feel so endlessly lazily put together. They feel like the hack'n'slash equivalent of fifa games to me. It’s very assembly line.

GTAV, GTA San Andreas, NFSMW, NFSUG2, NFSC, NFSUG, Undertale, CS:GO and Counter-Strike 2. There are many reasons for why I think they don't deserve the praise they get but I can't list all of them right now.

ohh yes GTA V and Undertale are definitely things to mention go on go on I wanna hear ya

For GTAV, I think the story feels "directionless" I don't know the right word for it, It felt like a low budget action movie with no clear message. The characters and endings feel flat. I've finished the game once and sold it along with my xb360. The atmosphere felt weird too, everything is satire and I can't take any of it seriously. Content wise, yes, it really is the best gta in that aspect. Sadly, the cooler stuff is in GTA Online. I'm not playing that.

For Undertale, It felt like a gimmick that overstays it's welcome. I didn't care for the story or characters because they were all tumblr self inserts. I forgot the game existed on my hard drive halfway through. The combat system is innovative and unique, but if i play around with it I'm an ignorant asshole, according to the game.
Whoisthisgit's video shares most of my opinions.

Black box era nfs physics suck. (aside from hp2 and maybe prostreet)
Gta sa story is weird and full of padding
csgo and cs2 sucked all the fun out of cs and made it esport slop.
My english gets worse the longer i write.

New God of War games are devoid of anything special or fun. The combat is super boring and the narrative doesn't justify the game playing worse than a ps2 game. Not to mention a bunch of modern game tropes like having puzzles solved by the obligatory small companion character. Despite being on much more powerful hardware it never feels that way. They're not fundamentally bad games, they just be glazed on too much imo.
I would argue it's a fundamentally broken action game that glues everything with some ridiculous design choices to hold on. The mere idea, of having butt arrows on Kratos at all times just highlights how impractical that camera angle was for an action game; as well as the melee magnetism that plays a big role since the camera cannot assist you in knowing the distance.

I agree with you on everything, except that most of the finer details in GTA SA's story are either on news segments on the radio (WCTR) or in cut dialogue, which makes it clear that the developers put more thought in the story than it seems but had to slow down a bit because they were focusing on more side-content. And yes, Undertale for me is just that OK indie game that ppl overreacted to and now I gotta hear ppl recommending it over and over when they barely played it themselves.

Oldschool god of war games felt like they were using the greatest hits of then-contemporary gaming tropes, modern god of wars feel like they capitulated to the worst ones of current AAA games. They look really pretty though, I respect the hard work that went into them, but the Hollywood blockbuster equivalent of the gaming industry often comes off like its embarrassed to be a game and seeks validation from audiences that don’t typically respect the medium. Admittedly there are way worse offenders than god of war though. At least it still has some gameplay.

Super Mario 64

The same way OP @goregoregoregoregoregore feels about metroidvania I feel about this type of game; large 3D environment 'collect-a-thon' snoozefest. overall a big chore with little excitement for me at least.
Yes! I have never been a fan of 3D platformers to begin with, but I cannot understand how that game is so beloved by gamers. Even at the time I thought it was blocky and awkward looking, the camera movement gets in the way at times, swimming controls are a nightmare, and the turning is just sluggish in general. I have tried playing it multiple times, but just can't get into it.

I loved GTA 1-3 and Vice City, but did not enjoy San Andreas or IV. San Andreas has some of the worst, most annoying missions and not just "Follow the Damn Train, CJ" and the David Cross remote control garbage. GTA IV seemed like it was trying too hard to be offensive at times and the voice acting got annoying really quick.

SM64 looks fine for an early platformer but I don’t like the controls or the camera too.

That really boils down to mostly personal preference for me because I never liked the way Mario games, 2D or 3D use momentum. It makes the whole game feel like one giant ice level to me. I‘m usually very good at platformers but I never seem to get used to that. I think Rare‘s games are much better platformers for the n64

I wouldn't say I hated the game (I liked it to start with), but I was really disappointed when I got to the big reveal in 999 (the sudoku bit, for those who have played it) when I played it a couple of months ago, especially after reading so many posts over the years extolling how brilliant and clever it was. It felt like the writer decided on the "twist" from the start and clumsily wrote the rest of the game around it, but in such a way that left the game up to that point a mess of plot holes, and made everything that had happened prior to that moment feel altogether pointless.

I haven't played the sequels, but given that the consensus seems to be that 999 is the best of the series and the sequels went a bit off the rails, I can't imagine I'd like them either, lol

that right there is the uchikoshi way glad you figured it out. now youll proceed to notice this pattern reading every other game hes ever worked on while noticing that all he does is reuse the same twists each and every time ad nauseam. have fun

I came running here to say this. I also don’t like the art design. The graphics are beautiful, but the monsters and worlds are so bland and generic, especially once you get out of the snowy areas.

I wouldn’t say I hate it, but I’ve had a hard time getting into Xenoblade Chronicles. It’s sort of a shame to me, because I love Xenogears and Xenosaga, but I just cannot get into the gameplay style of Denoblade Chronicles. I’ll try again eventually but damn it’s been hard.

Now if I’m being honest and talking genuine dislike? This one could get me crucified by DQ fans, but I really dislike IV. The game just ends up becoming a grind for me. I like the idea of having different chapters for the party members before they meet the hero, but the actual journeying/world hopping of the game just doesn’t do it for me. I feel like the previous game, DQ III, did the quest of finding a family armament much better. I think the story is one of the more interesting in DQ, but it isn’t enough to draw me in.

"Underhated" is an interesting term...

I'm gonna maybe stretch the initial intent of the topic and say that I feel more people should rail against seedy live-service and mobile games.
Not enough people exclaim the evils and icky exploitation a lot of these titles perpetrate and I feel there should be a larger, broader cultural disdain for them. Or, rather, the awful practices therein.
