Underhated games

Can't even read the thread can you? Dude was selling wc3 as best rts I'm the one who brought up starcraft lol. The list goes
brood war
star craft 2 (yuck)
some age of empires bs
warcraft 2
warcraft 1
some total anihilation / beyond all reason bs
some supreme commander bs
freakin armies of freakin exigo
red alert 3 even
prolly some more stuff I haven't tried yet
warcraft 3 <- this is where your RTS genre killer and DOTA spawner is

Go try playing WC3 without a hero and get dunked on until you start understanding what you are even talking about.
A guy on YT named funnywarcraft played online and actually managed to win without hero...

Like what's your point? Because WarCraft 3 was the killer of the RTS that makes it a bad game? Have u not heard of reforged? The whole internet was ablaze when it releases videos got millions of views dunking on reforged and you still wanna call choked to death and created dota or whatever? Have you even looked at the custom game community? An all time active community? Or wc3champions covering the melee scene? Lol objectively speaking no RTS allows map interaction like WC3 , its gameplay deep enough to keep you hooked for a while and if you get bored there is custom maps , yes I did hear about SC2 but some criticized it for leaning too much into Esport scene.....speaking of Esports blizzard creation starcraft ignited that scene , Blizzard RTS was and will always be the basis of the genre like it or not they won against CNC their biggest rival.

If you don't like WC3 fine but to go far lengths to shit on the game is something I don't get.

For the 2 worst Mario karts, they don't have modern drifting mechanics (I can even get used to 64's drifting better than Super Mario Kart and Super Circuit and even then, the track selection for both games is pretty forgettable other than Peach/Luigi Circuit in Super Circuit
Actually, I don't like modern Mario Kart that much.
Ever since they introduced modern drifting with Double Dash the series lost the challenge Super and Super Circuit offered. I'm somewhat indifferent towards 64.

It's a shame they never did a game with the old playstyle in 3d, the 2d really limited those games in course design

Kinda hard since I don't play games that caught too much attention but I'd say FF7 (both the original and the remake) and GTA 5 are too overrated for what they really are, besides also being milked to death.

For GTA 5, too many people rely on the fact that it's Rockstar's best-seller and... well, one of the best-sellers in gaming overall. The hype before launch was understandable and the game was OK, I can give it points for the achievement of making it run on PS3 and XBOX 360, also the money-maker that is the Online, but seriously, the game is absolute barebones if you don't play the Online.
Playing V Online with a friend is amazing, I don't even like GTA
Then there's Final Fantasy 7 which I can't talk much about because I haven't finished it. I would like to finish it before giving an opinion but I really can't because the game is so slow, dated and my own biases because of the game being so overrated and milked by Square that I just can't. Maybe I'm on the wrong on this one, but I really think that the game just showed up on the right moment in the right place, and it's not as good as people think it is.
Yes yes, forget VII, go play VIII now

I can't stand any metroid or castlevania games, actually i can't stand any metroidvania game. I just think they are boring and clearing the levels feel like a big chore. Too much backtracking and it's so tiring seeing the same enemies again and again.
I consider Super Metroid to be one of the best video games ever made.
But we can agree to disagree ::peacemario

The first that comes to my mind is Red Steel for Nintendo Wii.
51n-u9yEhaL._AC_UF894,1000_QL80_.jpg
Red Steel walked, tripped down a flight of stairs, and broke all of it's limbs so that Red Steel 2 could run.

WC3 took the hero units and turned them into something more ,the idea of WarCraft was to command small squads of units emphasizing tactics and careful play and not spam gameplay similar to CNC
This. I'm hesitant to call it a slower game, but there's definitely more of a gradual build up to power depending on the hero that you choose, and your early game hero dictates how you creep and build your units to compliment the play style. It's a refreshing change of pace compared to something like brood war.

I'm definitely a Reforged hater though. Blizzard can suck a fat one for that cash grab.

WC3 is quite fast paced , slower paced RTS include age of empires and like YEAH thats what im telling the guy each hero has 3 abilities to choose from each race is so unique in playstyle not to mention the 8 tavern heroes who can compliment certain races pretty well from well done story to good skirmish mod to amazing custom maps you can play WarCraft 3 only for your whole life and you will never get to try all the awesome content the community made like custom campaigns there is just so much work of love and passion for this game that you will never run out of things to try.

Shadows of the colossus, this game is one of the few that a gave them a second chance , but still is a boring , empty and the game controls like ass .
I like Shadow of the Colossus, but I do agree that the world is empty and the game has awful controls. In one hand those were on purpose for the Colossus fights to actually feel like these colossal deities and it works. On the other hand, it is soo annoying whenever I have to jump or climb on in one of those fights.

I know a lot of people are going to be mad at me but I consider Persona 5 to be one of the worst stories I've ever seen in a video game, the social commentary that this game makes about Japanese society is horrible, its soundtrack is overrated, its not bad but its far from being Meguro's best work (especially compared to his work in games like Nocturne and the Digital Devil Saga duology), the characters are poorly written and full of generic anime tropes, its story starts off interesting enough at first with the Kamoshida arc which has a good message about adults abusing teenagers but unfortunately the story gets much worse after that and the villains are incredibly one dimensional, its gameplay is good but I also like good storytelling and unfortunately persona 5 doesn't have a good story, at least the third semester of Royal is better than the rest of the game.
I like Persona 5, but the story for Persona 5 is it's weakest point. There are plenty of games in the Atlus catalog that have better stories than Persona 5 heck many jrpgs with a better story.

You found a rare exception to the rule, that was probably a lucky fluke... are you arguing against me here or for me?

If you don't like WC3 fine but to go far lengths to shit on the game is something I don't get.
that is what this thread is about, clearly it deserves more hate seeing how you insta shifted gears from hating wc2 to protecting wc3 with walls and walls of text and forgot what thread is about and even got some friends here to jump in and emotionally support your effort without even reading the discussion

I have ZERO idea why these games are so popular, absolutely none.
Even as an Undertale fan, same. How the hell did this random indie game that had a kickstarter suddenly blow up so much that the composer now has daily collaborations with the creator of Touhou and has become butt buddies with the creator of Smash, I legitimately don't know. God-level luck, I guess.

"Underhated" is a term I really don't care for.
I don't have the same problem with it as you, but I do share your objection with usage here: I assumed the meaning to be about games that ALREADY get/received hate and deserve/deserved much more. The meaning here seems to be synonymous with "overrated"...

The only game that comes to mind off top of my head is release of Fallout 76? I don't see how, even if you liked the game then, you could not hate it for the cluster fuck it was.
Everyone hates Call of Duty, even Call of Duty fans
LOL Probably itt closest to what I thought the term meant. But I have good memories of MW2, it is only COD game I ever played, and I thought it was really good ;_;

I mean you came at me saying WC3 is shit which is simply not true and anyone who isn't a WC2 player knows it , and of course I would defend WC3 its a well made game it doesn't deserve the criticism you gave it that's just not right to see undeserved hate directed at a good product for the sake of whatever the heck you think is an RTS , idk why but it looks like you have a hate boner for blizzard RTS and seem to despise WC3 cuz it created the moba genre then proceeded to mention armies of exigo which is clearly inspired by WC3 how can a shitty game like WC3 inspire so many other RTS games? No no believe me its bad really bad! Not like it spawned an iconic gaming characters like arthas and thrall and WOW was built on WC3 foundations and story god forbids I defend a game that is actually pretty well rounded and shouldn't get hate some people in this thread hate X game for whatever I don't know metroid nor kingdom hearts or persona to say "uh no ur opinion actually sucks :loldog".

WC2 is outdated its contributions to the genre aren't to be underestimated or forgotten about but the game doesn't hold well and I don't see much discussion about WC2 gameplay being outdated all I see is complaints about bloodlust being OP and it is well until the remaster fixed it , I think your criticism should be directed at WC2 for being so bad of an RTS in 2025 instead of WC3 that still has an active fanbase that has to be the most passionate and loyal to the game they love no community will ever surpass WC3 community in gaming history its that good of a community from map makers to melee players to content creators its great.

And yes I think WC2 shallow gameplay needs to be fixed its crappy how is it fun to have grunts and footies be the same? Its so lame why is nobody talking about this when discussing WC2? The campaigns are sometimes poorly polished too the AI doesn't work as intended half of the time lol a game in this state needs to be criticised and its creator needs to be alarmed of their product being out of date , that's my original post on this thread criticising WC2 you seem to have taken offense for me praising the best game ever made that is WC3 ::agree instead of focusing on WC2.

..and even got some friends here to jump in and emotionally support your effort without even reading the discussion
Hey I'm a simple cat. I see WC3 being talked about- I post. ::beer
WC2 is aight, I just enjoy 3 more.

The original release also runs like molasses, It took way too long for the game to be playable imo. In that same vein I enjoy Dark Souls 1 a LOT, but I also have the same criticism in that it's original releases are borderline unplayable when it comes to performance.

And it's plagiarism - the soundtrack.
No it isn't. I don't know how you could even compare the Undertale ost to cases of actual plagiarism like what happened with the Budokai "composer." Being sample heavy and using the same sound font and style is not plagiarism

If Undertale music is plagiarism, then so would Freedom Planet for it's occasional reference of Sonic music and then so would Sonic itself since the franchise is well known for being sample heavy, and it goes on. It would get crazy to the point you'd argue the entire Chiptune genre is plagiarism. The word you're looking for is derivative, not plagiarism.

Everything you said about the story is a somewhat popular take, minus maybe the social commentary part as I don't see people ever bringing up the game's hypocrisy at times minus "how ironic that the game where the clear villains are adults has you date adults!" Fair takes honestly, one of my biggest gripes was that the characters never really got to shine because the game shoves them aside immediately. Haru got the worst of it, it always feels like she was a last minute character rushed in to make the game a little longer.

Yes yes, forget VII, go play VIII now

I'd also say anything prior, since 2D RPGs are my comfort zone and I usually don't get engaged in any RPG on 3d or post-3d era (Star Ocean 2 being an exception) but I did like FFX and X-2, currently about to play VIII and IX.

And for the rest of ppl, why are yall arguing

I never liked Mortal Kombat on Mega Drive II.
Back in the days I was not used to this 6 buttons A,B,C,X,Y,Z. How could people “guess” all these combos, especially fatality moves? (silly me just wondered)

And because of that, as a kid, I thought Sega was just a console with bad games. And fightings was not my genre. However I liked Tekken and Soul Blade on PSX.

That's right, what are some games you think everyone loves but you feel like the only one that hates it? What are some games you feel even scared of sharing your opinion with others because just saying anything negative about it would make you crucified?

My issue with Super Metroid and Sotn is how easily you become op. Both games I got so strong id need to go out of my way to die so any more power ups I find or get would feel like a slap in the face. I really liked Hollow Knight though I do think that yeah the Metroidvania genre feels over done.

Personally I think The Witcher 3 is boring, and Halo has some really bad level design. Biosock just feels like a really watered down take on System Shock 2. Super Mario World is kinda boring imo even though SMB 3 is probably my favorite game ever.

Also do not care for FF6 or FF Tactics. I have spicy takes yes lol.

I agree. Not everyone will like everything that you like and vice versa. That's okay. I've seen some games that I enjoy on here and some fair criticisms to why someone may not enjoy it

next thread should be like "games that deserved more criticism" or something along those lines
I mean, it's kinda what the thread says. Underhated implies that whatever game we decide to talk about is a game that we criticize and hope for someone like-minded to hate it along with us. Hating together is kinda fun, as long as we eventually start talking abt things we like lol

I love Castlevania Symphony of the Night and Super Metroid and they're some of my favorite games of all time but I understand your point of view, Metroidvania is a genre that doesn't really appeal to everyone and they're also games full of backtracking.

It's babies's first "real" rpg, It's made for teenagers and the writing reflects that, you are not the target audience.

Also, Persona has been shitty since 3.
5 is the best one of the "new" trilogy, the original that is, not Royal: do not play that version, it fucks up basically everything about the original's gameplay and balance, the additional story content is good but It's not worth it. typical Fatlus re-release.
Why don't you like Persona 3? I don't think it's a 10/10 masterpiece but I think it's a very good game, it's the only game in Hashino's trilogy that I actually like. I hate Persona 5 and I'm indifferent towards Persona 4 (on the other hand, I love Adachi, he's by far the best villain in the series and he's much better written than the characters from Persona 5 and Strega from Persona 3). I'm just curious why you don't like the game.

Just so people know, this thread was made to people vent about their unpopular opinions and also feel validated by other fellow "unpopular opinionists". I didn't want to make people start shitting on each other because someone said their electronic video-game thing is bad. Be civil, you guys are mostly adults and should get your personal vendettas solved in a fighting game ft10 match like proper mature people
