So basically there are 2 versions of POP Rival swords on the PSP, both have chariot races and multiplayer, but one of them has extra levels in the story mode. I wonder if any of you guys know where can I find both versions, it's really fascinating to me that Ubisoft sold 2 versions of the same game without any tags or marks to show which is which. or perhaps extra levels were a software update for, lets say, the vanilla version? I would love to know more about this.

Are you sure one of them isn't the European version? I've searched a couple of rom archives and the only two versions that come up are a US and an EU version. Sometimes updates are added to games after being ported to Europe from the US or vice versa.

There’s an entire ocean of answers to this question.
  • Sonic unleashed on PS2/Wii and PS360 are essentially two different games.
  • Most Ben 10 games have really weird handheld demakes.
  • GTA LCS and VCS both have added content when rereleased on the ps2.
  • GTA V added an FPS mode plus bunch of stuff when moving from the 7th to 8th gen hardware as well as remove the outline on the minimap… odd.
  • Sonic generations is essentially an entirely new game on 3ds, so is sonic lost world.
  • Sonic colors on the NDS is essentially a spiritual successor to sonic rush.
  • This one is a non-example but I’m mentioning it because for the longest time I thought there was two versions of the Pac-Man x Mario kart racer but apparently not.
  • Bully Scholarship Edition got renamed to Anniversary Edition when rereleased on smartphones but it’s functionally the exact same game, weird.

yes but this is on the same console, the PSP, it's not a secondary version for a last gen or something, there are 2 games with the same name on the same console, that's intriguing for me.

Ah alright that’s much clearer.
Definitely an intriguing topic, I can’t think of many examples outside of the Japanese ports of vice city, San Andreas and gta v which feature heavily altered content.

I'm not sure, I lost some of my archive to check this out so I have to look for the other region's rom and see if the changes are regional.

Prince of Persia is one of my favorite games. I'm still waiting for the remake of The Sands of Time.

me too buddy, POP TSOT is my favorite game of all time, but then again, I don't trust the modern Ubisoft with the IP.

regional differences and special editions weren't that rare back then actually. games like digimon world 3 had lot more stuff in EU version, and many games had exclusive content in the japanese version, games like DDR had different songlists, etc. not sure what was the deal specifically with this game though.

The U.S. version had the extra content you're talking about, which is weird because it released at basically the same time as the European version.
thanks friend, I was downloading the US version to check myself.

that's super weird, not only that the psp version is a port of the wii version as far as I know and even the wii version lacks these extra levels.

so many japanese games that got ported to us and eu have something similar going on to this, where some features go missing despite being the same game on the same console

yeah I know about the regional differences, one of the Layton games had a whole side game in one of the versions, I just wasn't sure that this is the case for the POP as well, specially when both versions came out at the same time.

yes, FF7 dirge of Cerberus for example but in that case, the EU and US version were ported much later with so many fixes which then got ported back to Japan with the Integral tag line.

Well usually Japanese games suffers from this BS in the context of they don't wanna translate the game to English much so to reduce costs they remake the game by cutting content a lot.

So most popular example regarding it is how very different Japanese and non-Japanese version of Ace Combat 3 is. It's like the Japanese version is Metal Gear Solid 1 and the other version is Metal Gear Solid 1 Vr Missions lolol.

For example Shiritsu Justice Gakuen series' Japanese version has the full premium VIP service of character creation + school simulator modes in the context of a fighting game theme but the other version is just a plain simple fighting game lol. Damn stingy Japanese!!!!!! lolol

WarCraft 2 battlenet edition has broken cinematics for orc ending in tides of darkness and human ending in beyond the dark portal (i know blizzard has some sick names) the PS1 version contains the unbroken cinematics while versions found today contain the broken ones also the PS1 version contains some detailed maps that follow your advance through the campagins the map is actually accurate in a human mission where you have to hit an orc fortress the map shows bone chewers village to the north of it in the game the bone chewers are found to the north of the fortress!

Add on it unique cinematics for beyond the dark portal that aren't present in the PC version some modder i know said it's easy to add them into the game i want to add them they are pretty cool even if outdated and quite janky.

Well Blizzard is a small indie company so no wonder lolol.

who cares if the game is janky. it's a matter of preservation and having access to the game in any way you want imo, go ham friend.
Thanks man WarCraft 2 was a pretty significant game for PC looking back at the 90s the RTS war between blizzard and Westwood is kinda what made the PC viable to game on.

I actually worked at Blizzard for 1 year and during my short time I managed to record a video of what actually happens in their office that sums up a day in Blizzard despite it was against the rules to record a video lolol:

I can't think of another example of two different games with the same title releasing on the same system. But something really funny that also happened to Prince of Persia is Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, which is actually three or four different games (depending on who you ask) with the same title on different systems. This was a common practice in the 2000s with licensed games and/or games that came out both for consoles and handhelds.

There's two different versions of Tetris on the NES. Completely different versions of the game. One is from Tengen and in a black cartridge, the other is from Nintendo and in the standard gray cartridge. Not exactly the same scenario but still interesting.
