I recently hacked my Turbografx-16 Mini and I'm testing games on it. I used the compatibility list to avoid games with issues, but the list doesn't seem to be completely accurate. Some games listed as perfect have undocumented issues or just refuse to run. Some fan translations work just fine and some don't work at all.
Some issues I've encountered so far:
Dungeons & Dragons: Order of the Griffon stretches the HUD outside of the screen in first-person view, cutting off the fourth character portrait.
Mugen Senshi Valis (English hack downloaded from the Repo here) gives me a load error at the bios screen.
Strip Fighter II gives me a 004 Please Shutdown error even though it's listed as compatible.*
* = EDIT: The compatibility list says to plug into controller port 2 to get it to work and I didn't do that, so disregard the error with Strip Fighter II.
Valkyrie no Densetsu (English hack downloaded from the Repo) gives me a 004 Please Shutdown error.
Valis IV (English hack downloaded from the Repo) won't convert to .pcd in the game uploader tool, Project Chronos. It just hangs infinitely and the process stops responding. For other CD games it responds after a minute or two of conversion, including other fan translated CD games.
I'm sure there are more issues of this nature I haven't discovered yet that will be revealed by further testing.
Does anyone know what might be causing this? Maybe the built-in M2 emulator doesn't like headers or something, or requires them? Most of my games are from the 2024 No-Intro set from archive.org and most of them work. I'm guessing it's something specific to certain ROM hacks that the emulator doesn't like, but since I don't know what it is I don't know if I should strip the header, change the file name, etc. to get them working. In many cases the original Japanese game works just fine and it's only the fan translation that won't run, so there must be some change made to the hack that breaks compatibility. This is kind of new territory since the hack isn't that old, so any insight would be appreciated.
