In some less "popular”, "prestige", more niche types of sports where there isn’t a ton of money involved, that atmosphere still exists.

I was a sports photographer for about 10 years, and most of that time I photographed so-called extreme mountain biking (downhill). There, it’s totally normal to have a beer and munch on kebabs for dinner with the very same guys you fiercely competed against that day.

And if you get disqualified for any reason, that's it. You're out. We're too small community, where everyone literally knows each other, to risk ruining our reputation.

It was dangerous move by the american player. It endangered another player's wellbeing. Nothing to be contested. Just because another player got away, doesn't mean the rules should be broken whenever it's suitable.

And the people following the sports know how FIFA is giving special treatment to Argentina. Argentina is one of dirtiest teams in competition.
