Patch info: This unofficial patch translates the complete Tricolore Crise event script: 11,224 unique strings covering 14,995 locations on disc. It also covers 1,175 system-text entries and all 43 identified battle-UI entries. The patch includes in-disc English artwork for the title menu, status and magic screens, Options, and system-message plates, so the translated interface works on compatible Dreamcast hardware as well as emulators. This is a functional completion release. Some replacement artwork prioritizes readability over a perfect visual recreation, and a few non-blocking Japanese branding/splash graphics remain. Japanese name-entry character grids are intentionally retained because they are input tables. Features Complete English […]

yall realize this whole interaction chain's kind of proving the point of my initial complaints right? Goodgods didnt have to take my comments personally directed; the exact kind of terminally online weirdos that discourse a lot of us from even engaging in these conversations. It's useless garbage that actively makes this website worse
The only terminally online weirdo I see here is you, for how damn fast you responded to me.

"Goodgods didnt have to take my comments personally directed"

Ummmmm, but your comment was directed at him.... And he didn't take issue with it, I did because you are being a dick.

nyka posted:

"terminally online weirdo's like @GoodGods around here lately."

See, directed at him. Oh, he shouldn't take it personally? Well, I did for him then.

You and your attitude is the actual garbage that is bringing this site down.

A machine translation is a substitute until a human translation comes along, and there is nothing wrong with that. There are many games that people would never be able to play because they are never getting translated.

So until someone does an actual hard worked human translation, this is the alternative. I am thankful to be able to play games I have not been able to play because of a machine translation. And the fact is that many games have not been translated by someone in the first place or may take decades
It does make me curious though: how many games have had machine translations before someone came along and did it better? I wonder what the figure would be? Quite low, I imagine but it would be interesting to s

Uhhhh, all of your "comments" toward me are just insults, with no attempt at parley on your behalf. You could have responded in a rational, gentlemanly manner as my original post was, deconstructing the hell out of all my points, and then sing the tune of victory. Instead, you threw a glove dipped in shit at me, and I responded in kind, and evidently, you couldn't cope with my response. You just want me to be a punching bag for disagreeing with you.

"The nyka cries out as it attacks you".

Thankfully, a silver lining came out of this little tete-a-tete: Beefing with assholes on the internet is actually really fun. Adrenaline pumping, a pit in your stomach, body's burning, that seething desire to fling shit at each other over the internet, it's great. I thank you for this experience. Anyways, I'm gonna stop posting here. I've made my point, and no-one wanted to engage civilly with it. It's unfortunate, but it's a learning experience for the future.

Another AI garbage uploaded here thoughtlessly. I'm sorry but "Whenever a human-made translation gets released, we'll put it here." is not a defendable stance. It's as easy as "Since nobody translated this, nobody should see it, so we won't upload it". Pretty simple.
You can see it's MTL in the tags. If you don't like it, don't click it. Stop wasting your precious time on things you hate.

People who say MTLs are "inoffensive" or "better than nothing" seriously need to be educated on the subject. It's ridiculous, and the curators aren't helping by uploading these, talking about how they're not promoting an agenda is laughable, you clearly are and it's easy to see with how you're handling the situation.
Deeply disappointed with the site as of late. I guess it was to be expected because of that whole fiasco with Spike's AI usage in a Twitter post recently and how he doubled down on it later.
"People who say MTLs are "inoffensive" or "better than nothing" seriously need to be educated on the subject."

Well, educate me then. You sure didn't educate me or anyone with that entire block of text you just posted.

You people only know how to complain, don't you? If you want human made translations so bad, then by all means, make them yourself!

I think this is the entire point of machine translations to begin with. And there is no reason a machine translation should deter someone from making a superior human translation.

This whole situation with machine translation and human translation is ludicrous

He speaks a lot of truth. There is no reason a machine translation should deter someone from doing an actual human translation themselves.

So someone did a machine translation, and he complains about it and gives up on his hard worked translation that will be the superior translation? That does sound like a piss poor attutude.

Why would you blame 'localizers' for work they never got the chance to do? If a game was too niche to warrant a translation, that's unfortunate but much more of a wider issue than just blaming the people who would have happily done the work.
Alright, I'll concede that point. I was a bit rash in making such a broad statement. I think the point I was trying to make got away from me there, and now I don't even remember what it was.
i dont really know what your particular beef with professional localization is, but i also can't imagine caring. some of us grew up on the magic that folks like ted woosley were able to cram into mere kilobytes of space, and literally none of that has a thing to do with the arduous labor of love the actual fan translation community puts into often text heavy games literally decades after publishers decided they weren't "commercially viable"
Funny you should mention Woosley there. Someone is actually doing a retranslation of FF6 that cuts out all the Woolseyisms. You can find it on Varis.hangout.
feel free to tip localizers with thankfully more knowledge & perspective than you, and take the axe you have to grind about loli censoring or vagina bones or whatever else it is back to the discord channel of your choice, it's got nothing to do with this
I never mentioned anything about loli's or vagina bones being censored, is this that thing they call "projection"? I think maybe you should head on over to bluesky, they'd love you there.

Okay, seriously people, what happened here? I make a point about how fan-translators shouldn't give up so quickly simply because someone used AI to do it first, and it certainly was harsh in my wording, but everyone suddenly acts like I committed sacrilege? Should I have just agreed "AI bad" and had no further nuance to posit? It says a lot about the people here that they resort to bottom-of-the-barrel smears and projection instead of critiquing my points, then act like they've achieved victory by doing nothing.

who are you and why should i care if you suck at reading comprehension?
I can say the same about you. The difference is that I'd be right.

It's so funny how there's multiple users who only engage with conversations about how good AI is and how human effort is pointless in it's wake. They don't engage in any positive threads. Many of them don't even have pfps. Very curious.

i thought we were here to play & preserve games; and it just feels like it's become more about massaging the ego of terminally online weirdo's like @GoodGods around here lately.

The comment section in any MTL translation here is a hellhole. Legit consider just locking these to be mod only in any MTL'd game. No valid conversations happen in any of them. It's just constant shitflinging.

What do you mean "massaging my ego"? If you're not going to throw a proper argument my way and critique my points (which I'm all for), then how else do you expect me to respond? Lets be real and rational about this instead of throwing cheap smears like this, the internet has more than enough of that already.
I see you completely ignored the point that this slop that someone got an LLM to shit out for them didn't even have the correct character names until the actual translator pointed it out to them

Lol. The localizers, the people PAID to do translations of these games, should be the ones earning your ire. Had they done their jobs properly in the first place, you wouldn't have people salivating over even the *worst* fan translations to come out. Certainly, this game didn't have one to begin with, but the point still stands, and will continue standing long after these clown turds lose their jobs to AI.

Figures you can't critique my actual point. You'd rather bleed your heart out for those whom lack the drive to succeed where AI has failed. No-one wants AI to become the standard, but that's where the industry is headed because western human translators have failed to provide in it's place. We now have people willing to pour in untenable amounts of their life into making the best translation they can, but if they give up because someone else took the easy route, then they never should have bothered in the first place.

It's unfortunate this person chose to give up, but I'm not throwing a pity party for Him or Her in this context.
*eyes are glazing over* sorry bud im not engaging further to make you feel better about yourself; you'll have to do your own masturbation this time.

Enjoy eating up that slop, hog

I'm glad someone's said it..because at risk of offending a few people here; It's felt pretty depressing; where checking the site used to be something I looked forward to; now if I see a new translation now, I feel a ping of dread... idk; I'd say more but I was/am already kind of afraid of being yelled at or called a 'luddite' for having my own opinion on the direction things have been heading for rgt. It feels like an increasingly unwelcome opinion to have at times...and that's not the whole site and that's not the whole community; which is sad because there's a lot I do like here...idk, i dont have to play these; just depressing a bit

"But this is the type of stuff that makes real people who spent many months and years working to make the best translation possible quit. Because people like this are putting out a bad translation with zero care given to the propriety, or even attempting to do it right."
So because someone did it poorly, using AI/mtl, that means those whom actually put in time and effort should just give up? Shouldn't this incentivize these *real* translators to put their best foot forward in SPITE of this *AI slop*, to prove they have the gumption and drive to succeed where this one fails? The original fantl's behind Princess Crown sat on their asses for 12 years before someone else came along and did it in a fraction of the time, despite the original fantl's pissing and moaning about it? It sounds like THIS *translator* is just being another pissy bitch.
You slop-loving hogs are absolutely destroying this scene and this hobby.
