Toxicity in games

Hey guys. I found this neat exploit to copy armor. Give me your stuff and I'll copy it all. I promise I won't log out.

You encountered it at one point all of us certainly had a toxic encounter with another player in a game we played online we all know how it looks like and how it feels.

However there is something to toxicity in games where trash talking each other and even sometimes throwing slurs at each other creates for memroable and even fun moments.....is toxicity that harmful? Did it ever made you reach a point where you quit a game because of it?

Did you engage in toxic behavior yourself? Did you rage at someone during a multi-player game? I certainly did i also done my fair share of trolling in games ruining games people in lobbies were waiting to fill up for 2 hours straight!

Whats your opinion on toxicity? I find it necessary to keep a certain balance into the game community if everyone was so nice it will become mundane and boring but if everyone was so agitated and toxic it would also become boring and will push away newcomers what do you think...
Back in my Dreamcast Phantasy star Online days, I played a Female Newman Hunter as my secondary character. Really fun to play since they are jacks of all trades and really let you adapt to situations in any party. The problem with it? Guys would hit on her.

Had one guy simulate sex with her in the lobby and tell me, graphically, what he was doing to me. I had to remind him I'm (at the time) a 25 year old man. He didn't "believe" me. He kept on with his schtick. I eventually logged off.

Laugh if you want, but I never used that character again.

I fell out with the person and the person started to insult me saying that I'm not good, these things, but I don't know if he was insulting me saying I was very mine even though he made other comments like that.
Just a mad person, that's pretty normal and tends to happen. Just ignore the guy lol, eventually they learn to stay in line if they want to properly engage with someone.

That said I think this kind of drama is good a youtube video or a stream, it's funny to watch what fury can make a person say ::lol

classy ::rofl

Old post, but why not? Anyway, I was that toxicity once upon a time but I did it for fun. This was probably 15-20 years ago mind you on EverQuest 1&2 and a few free MMORPGs such as FlyFF (Fly for Fun) and one I miss dearly, Cloud Nine. I wasn't exactly rage baiting but I would throw a comment out of character or in world chat just to see where it would fly. Comments like, "World of Warcraft is a EverQuest II ripoff" (even though I knew it wasn't) LOL. I loved MMORPGs though and played them like crazy, especially EQ and WoW. Both masterpieces. These days, I'm kinda' afraid to login to WoW and other games because I know I'd get addicted all over again.

Yeah... that happens. I used to run a guild on EverQuest that ended up going downhill because of a couple who joined and wouldn't quit talking sex. I gave them several warnings because I really didn't know if minors were in my guild and honestly, what they were typing was a little extreme. After kicking them out of the guild a few other members gave me a piece of their mind and left which later caused my guild to go too quiet.

You shouldn't let other dictate how you play. If you stopped using this character it implies that they have won over you psychologically speaking.

Also in most games nowadays they add blocking/muting features in case someone is really going on the nerves.

In my defense, it was 2001 and the Dreamcast. There was no filtering or blocking mechanism in place, sadly.

You didn't even reuse the character for solo mode?

I remember I was a little shit at times when I played stuff like Uncharted 3 online. I wouldn't taunt other players after I killed them most of the time, but you'd have guys who would taunt me and then it became a battle of taunting each other after kills lol. There was also shooting someone's dead body as a sign of disrespect too.

I don't really play multiplayer much anymore since a lot of it doesn't appeal to me, but it looks like toxicity can still permeate in games for sure. Modern Warfare 2 lobbies back on the PS3/360 were a different beast back then

People being deliberately larger-than-life and hyping each other up is just wonderful. The Poongko Onisan shirtless fight is magic :loldog
i wish more people embraced the theatrics since its a lot of fun to watch but i guess we're in the "real esports" era of the fgc so we gotta treat it like a job instead of something we do because we love the game
