I'm about halfway through Crisis Core and I'm really enjoying it! Dare I say that the gameplay here is almost better than ff7. It's a lot less stressful at least lol. The story, while hokey, is quite fun. I'm surprised I like Angeal as much as I do but my favorite is probably Genesis. What are your guys' thoughts on the game?

It's so-so. The battle system is alright but the way they keep being interrupted by that lucky wheel bs is annoying and the encounters get really tiresome later on (especially in that prison dungeon). The only good parts of the story are mostly straight from FFVII, aside from the new Aeris parts. The rest is horribly corny and melodramatic. Genesis quoting that poem all the time and being angsty makes for some really painful cutscenes to sit through.

I love the compilation of FF7, I love the new remakes and I've always loved FF7 in many ways despite the fact it's quite dated now, the ps1 original, so I love all the updates and expansions. I even loved dirge of cerberus.

I struggled to get through this game though, and you've pretty much hit every nail on the head for me so I don't need to say it myself.

Outside of maybe enjoying the combat system, I found it a terribly shallow game.

I don't really have any strong opinion on Crisis Core but I suspect that bolded line is going to be rage bait for a lot of people, lol.

I will say it is probably one of the better compilation games, which is kind of like being the least smelly turd, but at least that is something.

I liked it, mostly for the story in conjunction with FFVII and its soundtrack. But as someone already pointed out, Genesis is insufferable. I also made sure to play it with japanese voices, I often can't stand the english dub in games.

My thoughts about FF 7 CC well the ending made me cry for the battle mechanics isn’t really the strong point for me though you can see their efforts to try something different. Overall it’s okay for me I guess coz FF type-0 is a mile better game imo.

I think it's the best (and kind of the only) addition to the FF7 story post the original 1997 game. The gameplay isn't anything special to me, and I don't really like those DMW slot machine sequences. Towards the end of the game they kind of get old mechanics-wise, but get more significant story-wise, though I don't think the combat is outright bad, just kind of stiff and awkward. Sort of like a beat-em-up style Kingdom Hearts for geriatrics. I do like Zack a lot.

Sort of the opposite for me with Remake/Rebirth, where I don't like the new story stuff but the gameplay is fine.

It's definitely the best thing to come out of the compilation of FFVII, definitely much better than Dirge of Cerberus and (especially) Advent Children.

Crisis Core is far from perfect, it suffers from the same problem as Kingdom Hearts where the story is melodramatic to the point of being incredibly corny (it's worse in Crisis Core since Kingdom Hearts at least is charming even if it is very corny).

I especially hate Genesis and his story is by far the worst thing about Crisis Core, his personality just sucks.

But at the same time I really like the characterization of Zack, since in the original FFVII he was just a Plot Device (a very well executed Plot Device) and I also like the Gameplay.

But at least Crisis Core isn't completely soulless cash grab, especially when compared to Advent Children (a movie I absolutely hate).

Overall, I think Crisis Core is a pretty good 7.5 game.

crisis core is a neat game, the story is a little shaky every now and again, but characters like zach, sephiroth, cloud, and angeal are all given some meat to work with
genesis is a generally cool character, but would have benefitted from more screen time and character development
beautiful music and art direction too
the combat is a little too basic, all things considered, but it works

PPSSPP has a fast forward feature so I kind of forget about the DMW but I could absolutely see that being annoying without it. I really enjoy corny stuff so I'm having so much fun with it.

I dunno if I'd call it melodramatic moreso than just sincere (although made for teenagers first hand so it's kinda juvenile). It's got some pretty cool and impactful story beats strewn in there, though it definitely gets wackier the longer it goes on.

I can't find the specific scene I'm looking for but I really like the part early on, in Wutai I think, where Zack is confronted by some Wutai goons about why they're at war, and he says something along the lines of "I dunno I'm just a goon too, I'm not making these decisions" and that soldiers don't really choose who they're fighting for, which was really profound to a teenage Tonberry. Zack just wants to "be a hero" but doesn't get that he might not be viewed like that by everyone.
Though that's just really a factor early on, as it turns into interpersonal drama the longer you play I guess, but that's like every non-Matsuno FF lol.

It's this Japanese obsession with honor but in a more modern (albeit still fantasy) military setting. I think that approach is pretty cool when they flesh out the characters enough so they're not just walking weapons. I've been told that Type-0 does something similar but I haven't played it.

The dub is hilarious but I'm glad that I played it with the japanese voices, Zack's VA in particular is great.

Was so weird how they recast the English guy in the remaster. OG English Zack sounded fine and had tons of energy that fit him really well, the newer one just sounded like a nosey geek.

:O that'd be cool to see!! I'm excited to play dirge even if I've heard mixed reviews. I just really like Vincent (I will be playing the undubed version because who in their right mind thought it was a good idea make Vincent sound like that)

Yes!! I think there are some very good ideas there, they just get bogged down a little

I thought his new VA was good imo, I don't have high hopes for dubs and from what I've seen he's pretty good.
