Ive been replaying fallout 3 and dont understand why so many people hate it. I definitely prefer the style of the classic games but i don't think that makes the Bethesda games bad. The only thing i really hate about fallout 3 is the synth stuff the game shames you for being mean to robots it tries to make them into a weird slavery allegory which is obviously retarded. its really funny how unintentionally racist it is they basically compare soulless machines to black people.
I think people just shit on fallout 3 because its popular to hate Bethesda.
What do you think?

Nah people hate it for the lack of rpg elements, the gunplay is very barebones and overall the game is incredibly easy. Now the plot on the other hand is enjoyable and some of the DLC is quite fun.

I like 3 (probably because it was my first Fallout), but after it, the Bethesda Fallouts got worse in the writing department. And 3's writing already has a lot of flaws. At least the synth stuff isn't the main focus of the game... I absolutely hated 4 and didn't bother trying 76.

I know a lot of people recommend playing that mod that fuses New Vegas and 3 into one game nowadays, and I'd love to try 3 with NV's mechanical improvements :)

I find that the more I play it, the more I like it.
Hopefully gonna get to experience all the side content one day.

fallout 3 was mostly rushed and missed out a lot of the siding with a faction content and the karma system made every bad choice not worth it (in 1, 2 and new vegas you can do whatever you want) other than some major flaws it is a very good game but with not so much rpg. I think fallout 4 and 76 are really lackluster compared to their predecessors but some people like them so idk

I shall be honest I like fallout 3 and 4 and NV more than 1 and 2. Honestly 1 and 2 are great games but I never been fan of isometric games not when your playing with a charter you made I wan´t full 3d so I can see the charter more.

if I made a top list it would be like this.
1. Fallout 4 = More color full + endless modding and has some good sides stories and I have more fun with it still.
2. Fallout 3 = a classic that I enjoyed and Lima neeson is your father >.<
3. New vegas = Best story of them all with good DLC but to much brow and the yellow tint you need to mod away. But still top tire.
4. Fallout 2 = a proper classic and good game but not a fan of isometric.
5. Fallout 1 = same as 2
6. Fallout 76 = I honestly enjoy it having a blast building basses and has some good quests.
7. Tactcis a good game if you play with friends
8. Brother hood of steel = Honestly not that bad game for the PS2.

I have never met a self professed "fallout fan" who's play any of the pre-Bethesda games.
I lowkey feel bad for original fallout fans now the Amazon series was a smash hit.

I enjoy Bethesda Fallout because they're easy to pick up and play.
I would never consider them "real" fallout games. It's still a skinsuit franchise that abandoned narrative roleplay in exchange for a sandbox... And settlement building.
Even VATS has just been reduced to slo-mo bullet time.

So, for the most lukewarm take one could ever expect:
I think New Vegas is the best Bethesda era game,
Ave, True to Caesar!

... Season 2 of the amazon show is going to hurt lmao

I used to grind the living hell out of fallout new Vegas back when I still had my ps3, ever sense it broke 3 years ago..I swear to god I will return

yeah the first two are a pain unless you read a 100 thousand word guide (i am NOT kidding https://lemmings19.github.io/fallout-2-walkthrough/) then its pure torture - but i guess 90s gamers where build different cause they had absolutely no help when playing

It's very much the opposite of what I want out of Fallout, and reduces a lot of the interesting choices and roleplaying to filling in a checklist and walking from waypoint to waypoint, but I think as a sci-fi leaning Elder Scrolls game it's fine.

Personally I like the first Fallout game, and I have it on my phone. I still haven't been able to kill the mother Deathclaw, which is where I have been stuck.

They saved the franchise, against all odds they made a very ambitious game that transformed the Fallout isometirc, turn based gameplay into an open world "real time" role playing action game. With this change came a lot of risk, a lot of changes. Of course there was going to be some backlash, some resistance to Bethesda taking over but at the end of the day, the game was a smashing success, winning game of the year left and right and it catapulted the franchise from an obscure RPG to a worldwide success.

Vocal minorities made it their mantra to downplay anyone who likes these games; while the game isn't except from criticism like it's writing in certain areas it's still a satisfying transition to 3D, that laid the foundation for the beloved New Vegas (where the writing is better but the glitches multiplied)

The hate for Bethesda has been a thing for years, since Oblivion hit they started chanting that "they're casualizing rpgs" alongside "consolized rpgs" it reached a new height when Fallout 3 since it lacked some of the more nuanced and intricate RPG calculations that a turn based game has. (For obviously obvious reasons).

I was enamored with the game to be honest. I feel like the Bethesda hate is a rabbit hole topic that could go on it's separate track.

It's honestly quite soulless, like the typical mainstream reboot that doesn't get it nor wants to offend anyone so here have some generic cinematic stuff, its also lacking difficulty and any sense of progression and can't even decide if it truly wants to be open world or not with how often it forces you to do specific missions to progress. Its only redeeming quality for me was being able to choose nonsensically disney evil options like nuking a town and whatnot.

yeah it used to be a indie for very specific fans (would you include new vegas as indie?) but bethesda (and its parent companies) probably want to maximise profits by increasing their customers like every other AAA company

To be honest i kinda hate moral choice systems in games because of a lot of the time the people that make games are <narrow minded>. Being morally good according to most game devs seems to mean "do whatever your told, let people walk all over you and never defend yourself"
I think the worst implementation of a morality system is Deus Ex Human Revolution

I love these games so much but I can never recommend them. Reading a manual seems to be the gamers most difficult enemy
but there is as satisfaction from playing ridicuously difficult games because you do eventually "get good" like in soulslikes and colony sims and stuff where most of your progression is learning how to play well kinda like a skill

yeah, i think fallout new vegas did it pretty well where so long as you pick a path there is a good option for you no matter what

the first two weren't these super obscure games people think they were nowadays, nor do I think they require you to read a book to play then lol but they were exclusively pc games so a lot of people missed then I guess. NV is closer to the first two games and fixes many issues I had with scaling and combat but it also shares a lot of the same problems as 3

yeah its like you are either helping every single person in town or a mass murderer, but it makes for a very funny evil playthrough imo

well i know 1 and 2 were obscure enough to flop and cripple interplay

For sure its a different genre completely and i dont see that as a bad thing. Fallout started as a CRPG but it had already worked as real time tactics game and even a console exclusive Action RPG i dont think it was that crazy of an idea to turn it into a Action Adventure game
