This isn't a console war, it's a console mercy killing....

PC is the only way I'm going forward and buying games. The consoles are all disappointments.
For your sake, I hope you already got all the PC parts necessary. Because you'll be paying a lot more for a long while. Every person has their right to choose. But I know things are gonna get a lot harder for PC not already in the ecosystem, or barely got in.

The cost on memory goes up week after week. The whole industry is fucked and will remain that way for years. Consoles will be no different.

Gaming is less affordable. Big budgets are not sustainable. The industry needing to lay off everybody who was over hired during the covid demand boom is going to be squeezed twice as hard.

I've i've noticed, and they're still cheaper than most PCs. Aside from the Series X being more expensive because Microsoft really doesn't care anymore.

We know. AI grift ain't making things any easier, hence the extra layoffs, but still spending more money and not gaining the money they think they'll get.

Pretty much why I'm sticking with mostly indies. Though I was already doing that even before this grift.

As lame as Nintendo has been lately, they monopolized all their IPs. So if you buy a Switch 2 (don't buy a Switch 2) your getting exactly what you paid for (which is just DK, Mario Kart, and Metroid right now).
You've forgotten about Kirby.

Because PC gaming is a fucking nightmare. That's why you buy a console. Consoles offer plug and play simplicity. On PC, there is always some sort of problem. Everything needs to be tweaked, settings need to be adjusted, you need to have the right software, the right updates, a powerful enough system, and even then things will always randomly go wrong forcing you to spend an hour google searching to try and fix it. Part of the problem is that Windows is a garbage, bloated operating system that is on its worst iteration ever with Windows 11, and Linux is so overly complicated that it's not worth the hassle to use.

Gaming on a PC ABSOLUTELY FUCKING BLOWS. Oh and let's not forget, PC GAMING HAS NO PHYSICAL MARKET.

PC ports generally suck too, like Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart which is plagued with nasty audio problems during intense fire fights on PC.

That's why consoles will never die because PC gaming sucks and it always HAS sucked. Frankly, even gaming on android devices like the Odin 3 or Ayn Thor is easier these days than gaming on PC devices like the ROG Ally X.
If you have so much trouble with modern PC gaming that is more of a "you" problem than anything else.

I'm a diehard Zealot of the way of the PC

Sigh look it's not that PC is bad or shit it's just expensive or was more expensive back in the day before things got cheaper and BAM everyone around the world got a PC

PC gaming was spearheaded by Blizzard and Westwood studios RTS race back in the day and i think it's this race where American games started taking off in a market dominated by Japanese games and consoles , the PC was the Americans playground since most Japanese games couldn't port their games to the PC properly and THUS you get games like Half Life and WarCraft 3 , Diablo 1/2 , Command & Conquer all of these were aimed at the PC market now of course the companies behind these game tried to do PS1/PS2/Xbox ports but it was mostly bad or lacking or controls are shit

And this brings us to why Playstation/Xbox were successful just being affordable is one hell of a winning move , unlike the PC where you can buy a factory made PC with the gear ready and all but you needed a monitor , a mouse , a keyboard and speakers what you needed for the Playstation and Xbox was already there for you cuz these came with controllers and everyone had a monitor or a TV so just plug few cables and put a CD and press a button and we good to go , you can run a ton of games with guaranteed decent performance because all PS1/PS2 pieces have the same rig so no PS2 that costs let's say 50$ gonna sport different rig from a PS2 that costs 10$ , for the Xbox Halo was their ace and where is Halo now? DEAD

Yeah this generation been so so sooo weak in my opinion legit no bombastic games , PS4 had GOW4 for example but most PS5 games can run on the PS4 i mean have you seen GOW5 graphic? Not that different from GOW4.....i think we hit the maximum level of graphics in games so no use trying to push further in photo realism

Only issue with PC now is the prices of components so if you want to play the newest Kratos adventure or a device that can run past generation PS games which is already a ton of games why would you buy a PC?

Personally if i get a powerful enough PC to emulate PS2 games i can die half happy (other half will be when FF6/FF2 get a remake)

If Exclusive games are an essential justification to buy consoles then every modern console is just usless trash that cost way to mouch money.

Back in the day consoles where more than that back in the day consoles was a way for you to play Arcades games at home or just more affordable option to play games with out blowing 2000 bucks on a PC. And honestly PC back then was more for work than gaming.

But today Consoles are just shittier PC´s that cost more money than they are worth and the only reason to buy one was exclusivity. So if exclusivity is the only reason to buy a console then that´s just sad.

So honestly maybe consoles should have died off once PC´s become more affordable and arcades died out so around PS2,Ps3 era it all should have died off.

I 100% believe Microsoft is trying to "stealthily" kill off the Xbox department, since they've finally started recognizing the importance of game parity on PC. The make some of the most dogshit decisions in human history, let the system burn, so that that way they can blame it on the consumer and never have to admit they were wrong in the first place.

Yes. Hit the nail right on the head and killed it. 💯

Thankfully you're not the only one, and most people realize that. Even the super casual are noticing it too.

They've been doing that since the 360 era when it came to the red ring of death. They try to shut down any complainers or tried portraying them as spoiled brats on people who had pointed out legit problems with the first models, before the slim 360 elite came out. Microsoft has always shifted blame on somebody or someone that's not them. They never learned a single thing ever since the beginning of 8th generation. Fuck'em. If I need to play anything Xbox related, it'll just be my 360, and nothing else.

I know the point that you are trying to make but most of those games aren't worth getting a ps5 for.

Yeah, it is, and I'm tired of having it. But it's not just a "you" problem, it's a "you, you, and you" problem. It's so difficult to optimize game development on PC because you honestly have no idea what anyone is running, which means any host of problems can crop up for anything based on what hardware/software someone has. Couple this with the ceaseless passage of time and ever expanding evolution of technology, and we have entire decades of programs getting left in the dust.

This is even without Xbox 360 causing the "DirectX gap" of the late 2000s, and computers can now both be too advanced and vastly inferior when it comes to running any form of software.

There's no easy solution to this, other than swimming in the shallow end of the kiddie pool. Windows is a liability, Linux (any form of Linux) is far from optimal, cost of living crisis + AI bubble = skyrocketing hardware prices. And I mean, even if you build a powerhouse PC with solid gold ramchips and 12 8Tb SSDs, there's still no guarantee you'll be able to run everything you need to.
Hey, I thought I told you to get out! That's it, I'm calling Nvidia...!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but EVERYTHING uses RAM now, so everything will go up in price.

To you.

No shit. Yet the PCs will always still be more expensive than the consoles, aside from Series X. Once again, blame those idiotic tech bros or there shareholders, they constantly suck the genitals of, and believe AI will solve every single problem or money problems.

Tech bros and their shareholders getting called idiotic.

Yes and no, some PCs like the "mini PCs" and Laptops will always be more affordable than a console like the ps5 and those PCs CAN run plenty of modern games.

Also emulation is much easier on any PC.

Fuck, I hate that your kinda right about that, but it's a such wishy-washy sentiment to have.
Not really. I love Lost Soul Aside forgiving me the classic PS2 style game I have not played in a long time that is just the right 7-8/10. I love yote, but I haven't gotten a chance to finish it, because there are so many other games I still gotta finish. Yotei sold great, btw, so it definitely still matters, and that game has d l c coming. Phantom Blade 0 is my most anticipated game this year.

I can agree to that. I prefer laptops, but mine is still not the most powerful. I don't care much for emulation, aside from really old games, but i have an emulation device that already does that for me.

Also emulation is much easier on any PC.
Most of the time, but there are more than a few that are difficult to deal with. And at the end of the day, most people just want to sit on their ass, and insert the game without any emulation, difficulties. I'm referring to the super casual because no matter how much you explain it or walk em through, they don't wanna go through all the setup. You and I might have the patience (even then, I have my moments where I won't even bother since I have the actual consoles), but those type of people don't and those are usually the biggest buyers of the console games.

True, but for the "super casual crowd" there is something far better and affordable than a console, and that is a smart phone.

Maybe buy a good computer kid.

yours doesn't count ⬆️

Sure its a pain sometimes to get stuff running but nothing worthwhile is ever easy. The problem is not the PC, it's the companies releasing half finished bug ridden games both for the consoles and PCs. PCs are just better all around you can play great games, do your taxes and watch dirty movies (if you are into that kinda thing) while your Switch 2 is good as a doorstop (you can finally throw out your WiiU). Plus I can just emulate all the console games, UPSCALED no less.
No matter what, PCs are are more expensive than Consoles. Not everyone had the disposable budget to upgrade their PC to keep up with technology and playing games at the best possible graphics settings.

Even if you're happy to scale back the settings, buying a PC which is capable of playing modern games at decent settings, it was almost impossible to build a PC with equivalent abilities at the price of a PS5 without some severe compromises. Big Tech YT channels like Linus Tech Tips tried! And the price gap is even larger now!

Most games are also still being developed for consoles first so the aging PS5 purchased back when the system was released back in 2020 can still play all modern games and will continue to do so. 1 purchase back then will last for the duration of the console lifecycle. Since the, I've had to build a whole PC since then and upgraded a few parts within that time...

Exclusive games are an essential justification for why you'd buy a game console. If it's the only place to play something, and you want to play it, you've only got one place to go.
As lame as Nintendo has been lately, they monopolized all their IPs. So if you buy a Switch 2 (don't buy a Switch 2) your getting exactly what you paid for (which is just DK, Mario Kart, and Metroid right now). What the fuck is there even on a PS5, or an Xbox whatever it is anymore?

I only bought a PS4 to get all my animu games (HnK:Lost Paradise, Godzilla VS, Gundam Breaker 3, SRW X & OG:MD) but refused to get a Xbox One because it only had 2 games I wanted (Rare Replay, half of which I already own, and KI 2011, which is thankfully on PC).

So, as of 2026/01/26, what is there to buy on a PS5 or Xbox Series that you can't buy anywhere else?

Avoid mods or homebrew, just boots on the ground stuff you can buy from a store. Besides, best consoles to jailbreak should be it's own thread.

Also, no PC Master Race shenanigans, or I'm raising the price of your ram chips again.
Nintendo is completely ruined as a company, they were the fun gimmick choice, now they merged the console and handheld lines, they have nothing interesting to offer. Mario and Zelda aren't even that good. What are you just going keep making breath of the wild sequels? Everyone hates the mario kart. There is no reason to a buy a switch 2, unless you a youtuber who can make money off having a stupid opinion. Sega is the winner, sega is great. They should come back to the console market. They will kill it.

True, but for the "super casual crowd" there is something far better and affordable than a console, and that is a smart phone.
Yet there's still plenty of those that want that GTA VI or Madden. Many of them, part of that same smartphone crowd. They can do and play whatever they want. I'm not interested in any of the three though.
