We all have them—games we’re convinced we hate and want to burn and NEVER want to play again, but in our heart of hearts we actually want to play them all the time because, face it, we love them!

It could be for all kinds of reasons; it’s ugly, it controls like ass, it whispers in your ear to smoke cigarettes, whatever. The main thing is that despite any and all of the reasons you can conjure, you still come back for more.

Do you have any personal examples of this phenomenon?

most games that i play really
Ragnarok Online for sure. That game made me so much absurd stress and it's so exploratory and unbalanced if you are not playing in private servers, but i would always return to it.

Xuan yuan sword gate of firmament

Janky controls
Janky movement
Janky battles
Janky cutscenes
But I'm addicted to this game,it has a nice story and I actively wants to know what happens next

Generally speaking I don't think I have many examples of this, but one that I know for sure would count is The Simpsons Wrestling. It's certainly got many issues, like being unbalanced, Ned being practically impossible to beat (Smithers too, for that matter), everyone only really having like three moves that they can do, awkward movement, and a clunky stamina system, but I just find the game really charming and fun when I'm not taking it too seriously.

For me personally, it’s probably this one that springs to mind first (among MANY other games)

It’s janky, boring, repetitive, and blatantly unfinished. But it’s such a cool game despite it. The creator’s vision was super clear and I love how artistic it is, and I’m a big sucker for games heavily inspired by biblical/religious themes.
It’s also got an AMAZING soundtrack.

i really find this type of game more compelling than unambiguously good things. the attraction of awesome ideas executed kind of poorly cannot be overstated.
Totally agree!

For me is Valorant! I hate riot games with a passion but i enjoy the game a lot. Other than that, probably worth mentioning Fire Emblem Heroes. I hate it but love to check it out from time to time

S.O.S for Super Nintendo. Was going to do a review for it at some point. lol

That's a tough question for me to answer. There were questionable games that I came back for, but that's because I can legitimately defend them.

I guess there were some bad CD shovelware games I would come back for, but I lost those CDs and no one on the internet have uploaded them.

I had a long stint of this myself. I can definitely attest to this. I don't have the patience to return, but it's either PServers or nothing if you want to stay sane.

Don't think I've played any games that I found ass yet fun.

My most recent one would be Slitterhead. Whenever it was initially revealed, I was hoping it'd be a surivival horror instead of the beat 'em up that it ended up being. It's a bizarre game and for that I still love it, but it's incredibly janky. Beneath all of the jank, though, there's a pretty original beat 'em up that feels like nothing else.

I was going to say Atomic Heart at first since that got a mixed reception, however I think that's a genuinely good game. While some people found the respawning enemies in the open world to be annoying, I wasn't bothered by them past the opening area where I just played a more guerrilla style where I'd shoot and run. This game has some of the most stunningly beautiful visuals and art.

I have quite a few games like this, but the first one that comes to mind is easily Too Human. I have no idea why Too Human on the 360 holds such power over me, but it does. It is objectively badly designed, got famously gutted right before release (and also led to a lawsuit), is janky as hell, boring, and killed Silicon Knights but yet I love this game. I had max level of every character class with full gear'd up kits, and I spent hours playing it back when it came out. I can't even really articulate why I like it so much, other than maybe an actually cool visual aesthetic of techno-norse.

I just finished Pokemon Violet
It was kinda bad,but i did finish it.
Yeah that’s a good one for me too. In my backloggd review for it I called it ”the game that doesn’t work until it does” because it had one really good moment for me trying to find a Dratini that was like my favorite moment in any Pokémon game.

Digimon World Dawn & Dusk but exclusively Dawn, through they are pretty much the same.
I love this game to death but it is a grindfest and seems to genuinely hate the player through every corner, it is arguably a downgrade over World DS.
The only thing noteworthy about this game is the DNA Evolution Mechanic that allows you to fuse two Digimon to create a stronger Digimon, through it also sucks because a lot of Digimon are locked to the Online and all fusions are literally impossible to figure out without a detailed guide.

Now that I think about it, a wide margin of Digimon games suck but I love them regardless, like World 2 and World Championship. Not World 4 tho, that one is gutter trash.

Addendum: Found my Save File, 300+Hours, Platinum Tamer Rank. Couldn't 100% because last Tamer Rank is locked to the online. This is a toxic relationship if I ever saw one.

I love games like this!
Anything D3 related, pretty much majority of Simple Series. Pit Fighter on arcade, Crusty Demons on PS2, Neopets on PS2, and so on and so on.
