Dragon Quest Monsters has strategic depth, monster fusion , a more mature approach to monster-taming, and is objectively richer than Pokémon.

In DQM you have a team of 3 monsters in battle (vs. 1v1 most of the time in Pokémon).
The gameplay is akin to a strategic RPG.
Some monsters act on their own according to their personality.

There's a less childish tone, no silly or edgy rivals and it's often tournaments or epic quests.

The level design and zones are more open than Pokémon's linear and hand-holding routes

Speaking of design , DQM bestiary with Akira Toriyama's legendary artworks, has a charm that makes pokemon pale in comparison (not to say copy, because some will still say it's a ragebait).

Pokémon remains the king of simplicity, accessible to 6-year-olds and owing its success to years of pop culture-driven marketing.

This is a sumptuous topic from nerdelitist, thanks for reading.

Bait or not, I will take a look at DQM (never played it, only DQ title I've played has been 8 on ps2), but for anyone who's looking for Pokemon-clones please try "Nexomon Extinction": you can customize the sprite of your character, it has lots of beautifully-designed monsters with different elements, a good story, a funny talking cat, no need for online to exchange monsters for completing the list, a big post-game area that on Switch came as free update (no paid dlc). Gameplay-wise, battles are like Pokemon but there are little differences.
Only flaw: there's no minimap, so in some area it can be a pain to find the right way.

EDIT: I wanted to post a screenshot but I saw it on sale on Steam: for € 1.99 it's a must-have!
We played it on Switch, we bought it physical for around 30-35 and we felt like it was totally worth.

true story
i was at gamestop many years back, (like 2000s gamecube and dreamcast times) trading in some old games, and checking out the classic gameboy and SNES games, the guy at the counter asked me if i was looking for something,
i said i was looking for RPG kinda games, and i mentioned pokemon, the guy said like "well you want a game better than pokemon check this out" and handed me dragon quest monsters 1 gameboy.
it was 3$ USD i said okay sure why not, also bought dragon quest 3 for 2$ (this is RIDICULOUS, read on)
note i haven't played a dragon quest game prior, the DS wasn't out, no remake 4,5,6, no 9, i had no PS2 so never played 8, never heard of it at this point.
that following month, i spent almost EVERY waking hour playing dragon quest monsters 1
holy hell, pokemon WHO!? so much more going on this game, 3 vs 3 fights already made pokemon look bad, the breeding system actually worked really good to make stronger monsters like reaching stat caps after a dozen good breed attempts, the monster selection (of course all monsters from DQ 1 up to 6) the story (which was a mix of DQ1 through 6, you play terry from DQ6 as a kid) which again never played a DQ so no idea what was being referenced till much later replaying it.
i spent, no lie, more than 999 hours on this game, the game timer froze at 999!
i was playing this everywhere! friends and family like "what game is that?" dragon quest monsters" "what no clue waht that is" no one really knew about it! but to me it absolutely KILLED pokemon!
i knew ONE person in my life who had DQ monsters 2 and all the other DQ games, that guy gave me his DQ 3 strategy guide which to this day i cherish like GOLD (the gbc guide works well with the remake 2dhd dragon quest 3)
but THEN...THEN... i played dragon quest 3 GB... again, no other DQ games, just DQ monsters and 3 at this point
DQ3 is ONE OF MY FAVORITE JRPG EVER TO THIS DATE, i've played EVERY version of this!
it's such a good game, and absolutely the BEST DQ game to play first (prequel to 1 and 2 btw)
loved the class change system, loved making party members (though that ver was just class and gender, no appearance or hair colors like remake 2dhd has)
i am extremely thankful to that random gamestop employee, afterwards i played just about EVERY dragon quest game.
and now i'm playing DQ3 hd2d and like, wow still best JRPG to me.
like, i enjoy chrono trigger, I like FF5, i like job/class changing stuff, I love disgaea games.

don't sleep on dragon quest monsters, btw theres a 3DS remake of dragon quest 1 with english translations, they changed a lot of game mechanics to modern DQ games (good and bad depends how you look at it)
the newest DQ monsters game is Dark prince, be warned it plays and looks like a 3DS game (it had to be a cancelled 3ds game they said nvm bring it switch instead) is on PC though.

Dragon Quest Joker series is a pretty good game.

you can tell he's omega mad when he gets distracted from googling anime men drinking coffee
Don't worry he usually chimps out for a bit then calms down, he can't seem to take any criticism and yet makes bait threads like "THIS game is BETTER than Metal Gear Solid 3!" when he could say "Metal Gear Solid-like everyone should play". Plus, doesn't help that he doesn't point out which game in their respective series he is even talking about, so it looks like a schizophrenic rambling in a cave.

On the off chance that you're actually sincere with these threads, I would recommend taking a look into how to properly word an argument without coming off offensive. You might have some great talking points, but your arguments just come out as a few sentences about "this is just better." Like, we don't even know why you think things are better when you say that. Your English is alright, so with some effort I can see you at least coming up with some interesting talking points.

I've never actually played the dqm games but I didn't really like the monster catching in DQV and I thought it was the weakest part of that game.
