Thinking of buying the Nintendo switch just for Xenoblade Chronicles X is it worth it?

As a massive fan of the series that's been through it all, getting an entire console just for it ain't worth it chief. The distribution of games in my country is fucked, so I'm still waiting to get a physical copy of the game because if I did, I wouldn't be writing this post lol.

And taking this opportunity, I like these two games, not more than the first one but they have their reasons to exist. If you don't mind, I'd like to get poetic about it:
XBC 1: A game about a protagonist that can see into the future, teaching us that nothing is set in stone and we can change the future.
XBC 2: A game about many characters plagued by their past mistakes, and about a living blades that are immortal and will live forever with said mistakes, teaching us that we should forgive and forget and that our pasts don't define us.
XBC 3: C'est la vie... Life is fleeting and we should enjoy all the small moments in our lives, a game where our heroes are on borrowed time but even with such a small time frame to act, they change the entire course of their world and we should tell the people that we love, significant others or family, how we truly feel about one another, because we never know what fate has in store for us...

Wow, that was dramatic... Hope I made some sense as to why I love the entire series lol.
They even had really good morals.

XB1: No matter what the future holds, we have to choose the right path to make our future brighter.

XB2: Learn from your mistakes, forget about the past and move forward.

XB3: What matters in life depends on how you use it.

Honestly I would say just the normal Switch (OLED) might be enough, used if possible. I bought the Switch just for for exclusives which totals over half my purchases (which is 27 out of 42) and when I do play them I feel like it was worth the purchase to maintain and preserve those games and I have 13 more exclusives to buy (including XBCX) but after those purchases? I might just never touch the Switch again. It would be telling of the games I buy on why I'm not compelled to complete them all or touch the Switch but the reason I bought those non exclusives is the point those are actual games for me to play to justify my owning the Switch than just playing them on PS4 or Steam Deck which you should argue is the what exclusives are for. I'm just turned off from the Switch from not being inclined as a customer to purchase from Nintendo because of the hassle of the online store, my hassle in finding my online library without the console and just lack of sales for me to go on benders (physical stores help me do that). It's not even fun to window shop so why think of building my library when it's not as convenient as Steam, PS (before the PS5 launch window) or even Epic?

Was the OLED worth it on top of those purchases? Well considering Nintendo is doing it's best on shutting down any places with their IPs and doubly so on current gen and that fact the games I own as very low on crack priority? It's justified in my mind but for anyone one else it would look like an absolute waste and just learning to import and learn Japanese or learn to crack physical copies might have been better in the long run. But this is coming from grown up Sony fan, I grew up with only the GBA and DS and a few titles on Wii so my view is very much skewed in getting the most out of wallet and I'm still very much sore about the prices of the 3DS consoles and their games.

Yeah, you concised what I said with better words, nice!

I have one major gripe about X. As you know, the Wii U version didn't have Japanese audio in the West, and this Switch DE uses the same translation than Wii U's, meaning: dubtitles - if you know Japanese, and want to play with Japanese audio, the discrepancy between text and spoken lines is blaring. I know most people don't mind, but I surely do. And the text in Japanese is so tiny in places it's difficult to read while portable (and I always use my Switch portable) so switching to Japanese text doesn't really help. Sadly I had to drop the game and play more MonHun Wilds instead, oh well..

I was spammed in my scroll by pages and groups with the Xenoblade in videos, memes and articles.

I was like wow this is peak hype, especially for me a mecha fan. About 7 years back more or less i bought a used PS3 console just to play some exclusives games i found by pure luck, i don't think is possible for decent emulation for Switch games and i need some recommendations from Switch owners which is the best console version?

Thank you.
Get a Switch 2 and buy the whole saga for the rawest boxart synergy of all time

2 and 3 are not real games, they are genuinely abysmal in storytelling, writing and characters.
You hate 2 for the writing, storytelling, and characters
I hate Xenoblade 2 because of the overcomplicated gameplay that pads itself out with a million fetch quests and field skills. We are not the same.

The map is godawful with said fetch quests too but we knew that. Not to mention the gacha is random and you can't even swap blades to another character until halfway through New Game + who designed this shit?

Story's amazing though, one of the only things I enjoyed about the game. Not many games about tragic loss and grief, disillusionment, and redemption in the same game. Genuinely hate how people boil the story down to "hurr hurr animoo antics! Rex in Mythra's boobs!" instead of everything else. This is why I'll still recommend the game despite my beef with it.

The issue with the story of xeno2 is that more than half of the game is hurr hurr animoo antics ,Rex in Mythra's boobs and close ups to pyra's and any female character's boobs

Seems the game will get an update to 60 fps on the Nintendo Switch 2. But you're right, the game is fantastic. ::fire

It's very difficult for me to recommend buying a whole console for just one game, but I do recommend Xenoblade Chronicles X as a game. Probably a hot take, but it's my personal favorite in the series (although I haven't played 3) largely because of the art direction and mecha exploration. If there's other stuff you might want on the Switch then it might be worth getting one, or waiting for the Switch 2, otherwise I would consider emulation.

No I know what the game is about, it's just that in my opinion it's executed pretty poorly. But again... MY OPINION GUYS! WE CAN HAVE OPINIONS AND VARYING STANDARDS AND THOUGHTS ON THE INTERNET RIGHT?!

Xenoblade 2 with good morals.... OYG.

I was considering saying nothing more on this topic, as I've done it in a few XC threads, but I guess I need to chime in on this one:

Xenoblade 1 is the only perfect game in the series. (The Wii/3DS versions have some flaws, but the Switch version fixes all of them.) Not going to dispute anything about it. XCX has half-assed writing and bad humor, but good gameplay. Never finished XC3 because the menu system is just trash and too vital to the gameplay to ignore.

But let's go over Xenoblade 2's morals:
  • If your friend (Torah) tells you he has a little girl living with him because he's really into lolis, and you and your waifu both know what is going on, stay silent about it and don't beat his pedo ass and get the girl to child services.
  • If you get attacked by someone (Morag) who is working for an obviously fascist government, become friends with them and never dispute whether there's anything wrong with their messed up government.
  • If one of your friends (Zeke) is a classist bigot and hypocrite who randomly blurts out hatred for refugees (despite having been in a similar situation himself), pretend he said nothing.
  • If your misogynist grandpa (Azurda) slut shames your girlfriend and blames her for sexual harassment, nod your head along with him and never apologize to her for anything.
  • If a friend of yours (Floren) comes out as LGBT+, act horribly shocked along with the local morons so that you can maintain conformity.
  • If one of your friends (Newt) drops a bunch of dogwhistles that they believe in Nazism, pretend they are just a big military enthusiast and say nothing.
  • If you treat all three girls in your life like garbage, you can still get the harem ending without making any effort to do so.

What really sucks is that I sold my Switch and then a few weeks later they announced Xenoblade Chronicles X, a game I gave up on on ever coming to the Switch. So I'm in the boat do I wait for a Switch 2, buy a Switch, or the emulation route. Right now leaning towards the wait for Switch 2 even though I love the Xenoblade series. Well, never finished 2 but got close to the end. If I were to rank the games it would be 3 > 1 > 2. Main reason I'm not considering X through emulation would be me wanting the full online support from the start and not knowing if uhhhh.... Not even sure what the current Switch emulators that are still being supported are with Nintendo taking down Yuzu and getting the guy behind Ryujinx to leave the scene. So guess eventually I will get a Switch 2 which might not be until sometime next year depending on how scalpers go with the launch

Kinda disagree on the "perfect" myself cause I have my fair share of issues with 1's story.

And most of them are related to Fiora coming back to life.

Eh, the "women in fridges" trope is such an overdone and sexist thing that it's a breath of fresh air to see it subverted to the game's advantage instead of played straight. The writers made the right call to not go the traditional route on that one.

Unfortunately, I bought a Vita just to play Persona 4 Golden.

Fortunately, I eventually used my Vita to emulate some sweet PSP/Vita games
You should try Gravity Rush on the Vita if you haven't already, it's awesome!

Kinda off topic but I'm contractually obligated to promote Gravity Rush anytime the Vita is mentioned
