Things you hate in games you love.

I like L.A. Noire
Have you seen this nine and half hour review/recap of the game?

Edit, sorry for the age restricted screen. The channel is called Action Button, this guy does the most obsessive in-depth analysis of games.
If you want all the characters, extras and more you have to grind a lot. You can use codes to buy them for free but you still have to farm for extras (at least, getting all the gold bricks gives you a infinite stud font)
This is worse in the GBA port, since it doesn't have multiplicators and when you get more and more studs; you also lost more and more if you die (in example, if you get 1000 studs you lost like 100 or so at dying but if you have 50,000 or so you can lost like 10,000 or so at dying and you only can recover like 500 or so).
Sounds brutal, would definitely be using save states if we replayed it now.

That one electric guitar side quest in Steambot Chronicles.
If you know, you know.

I HATE feeling scared in horror games 😖
Im on the opposite . I like being scared in a horror game because its something i either barely encountered or is so new for me that i need to strategise and manage the horror to overcome it . I still think Nemesis in original RE 3 is for me the most horrifying thing in any game . Unpredictable how he moves , when he attacks and doesnt go down so easily .

And often are horrifying things that we hate nd despise that gets us scared . Except that the things that are just bad .

It's mostly QTE's even in some of my favorite games like Resident Evil 4 or Shenmue since I've never been a fan of them and don't enjoy them in most games barring few exceptions(like the older God of Wars).

Also love the first Thief game but I'm not a fan of the more adventure style levels as opposed to the stealth focused ones which I loved plus they also relied on zombies who I also wasn't a fan of as an enemy type either.

I like L.A. Noire since I'm a fan of the noir genre and a love many of the films they took inspiration from but was not a fan of it's interrogation system with the three options it gives you which are also quite misleading at times. The interactions themselves are good and I'm sure those who haven't played the game must have come across clips of some of the more hilarious ones from the game but the actual system for interrogating suspects left much to be desired.
Yeah QTEs are not that good overall . In many games are the QTEs really janky and sometimes come up in milli-seconds thanks to its inconsistent performance and frame-rate .

But there are good exceptions there if its used well and executed smoothly .

Diaries/memos/notes/audiologs where they don't make sense. Takes me right out of the experience immediately.
I especially hate when it's presented as a diary and just talks about some """secret""" entrance that's just the actual goal I'm progressing towards. Like finding a bandit note in the first room of a cave in Skyrim and it's some guy going "You dumb assholes the password is actually 1234, next time I'll feed you to the wolves!!!" etc.

Resident Evil 8 did it the worst, but I hate that game so I guess it doesn't qualify for this thread lol

I love most of the Assassin’s Creed games but why tf do we still get fed some garbage controls -_-

RE4 remake is great but the castle section went on way too long imo

MegaMan Legends is an amazing game, but it treats you like a fucking idiot every step of the way — "can you see this THING RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU?".

Were the beta testers a bunch of blind monkeys??

I hate that I love grinding (sometimes).
Lizard brain likes to see numbers go up I guess.

Edit: Oops I totally misread the prompt.
Dyslexia went hard turning that title into "things in games you hate that you love"
Oh well, I'm leaving it. 😁

We feel this forum tickling the same part of our brains, "ooh, there's levels to this, we need to be the best!"

But yes, we are RPG devotees for that very reason. We even have real life stat sheets for ourselves (don't tell anyone). The older Amalia is ranked a whole level higher than the younger.

We thought your interpretation was just creative. But it's a backhanded compliment, get an answer wrong and teacher says "don't worry, you're creative."

I'm playing Mega Man X5 and the experience is like this to with Alia speaking to you every time that you reach a new part of the level (and that happens often)

Characters that just kinda stand there and dump a lot of plot and lore at you because... the developer decided to I guess? Turns that segment into an absolute snoozefest. I'd rather explore and learn about this stuff as the story happens. Assassin's Creed 4 had missions where you had to tail some guys as they talked about their plans or whatever and you had to stay hidden which was at least something but it bored me to death.

The platforming in Gungrave GORE. Thankfully, a patch update came out two years later, and got rid of it all. It shouldn't have taken that long, but there are other improvements as well, and they really did not stop updating this game until 2024.

The way you grind for skills in Way of the Samurai 1 + how easy it is to lose all your progress.

duhhh you'd rather shoot "everyone" other than Germans in... WORLD WAR 2??
There was a mod that let you shoot everyone equally and the game was much more enjoyable as a result.

You could wipe out your own squad with a stray grenade and then solo the rest of the mission like Duke Nukem or Doom Guy.

These are really niche, technical ones.

1. Cataclysm Bright Nights's tendency towards memory leaks. Got a pretty good computer and that thing still does it. Have to ALT+F4 pretty often in long runs if I want to finish tasks like reading or lockpicking in a sane amount of time. My mod list may have caused some of that.
2. Fallout New Vegas's mod limit. I hope the remaster increases that. That's all I want. A 64bit exe and light plug in support.
3. Rimworld's long, long loading times at the start if you have a long mod load order. Mine is terrifyingly long.
4. Daggerfall's billions of audio glitches in DOSbox. So glad Daggerfall Unity exists. DOS Daggerfall doubles as a survival horror game if you have sensitive hearing like I do. Silent Hill ain't got shit on the torch that shrieks when you look at it.

Finite continues are the reason I'll never see the end of certain games. I also second unskippable cutscenes. Grinding is tolerable for me but sometimes I get sick of random encounters and have to play something without them for a while to get a break. Also not a fan of obtuse nonsensical solutions in puzzle/point-and-click adventure games. You should be able to figure them out by being smart, not by being so stumped you try every item and every combination of items until something stupid you never would have guessed turns out to work for some reason.

Lost Kingdoms II introduced the Mech element to the card list, basically allowing us to control mechanical creatures with incredible design. I frankly adore this element but the issue is that there is so little of them. A mere 14 cards and one of them was created from a fan contest.

(This picture includes a Triblaster, AstroBot, Mechlance 5L, and a CharioBot for reference from left to right, one of the many loading screens of the game)

So not only is the admission cost to use these cards incredibly hard due to the new Affinity system that no one asked for, their payoff is perhaps lackluster compared to the more strong combos you could pull off in this game.

They also introduced Transform cards, where you become and control the monster and it sounds amazing, but due to the nature they only have two attacks (90% of them just have a Jump prompt instead of an attack) it leads to them feeling undercooked and not that fun to use.
