I mean your SPECIFIC area, like your town or city.
Where I live, PS2 and Wii are battling for most desired. SNES clearly used to be, but a lot of people got their fix, so there’s been a bunch of trade ins in my region. I may want to invest in that system soon, since games like Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, and several other heavy hitters are some of the most affordable prices I’ve seen in my life.

was N64 but has been slowly transitioning into GameCube. They get away with charging like $100+ cad for the popular titles and they still sell. The area in general has a lot of Nintendo fanboys which drive the demand and prices up. It's why my collection early on was mostly Sega games.

I live near the three Pink Gorilla locations in Seattle, and it doesn't seem like any one thing is featured more than the others. The only thing I've noticed a lack of games for since I got back up here, are non-Nintendo handhelds. Very few Lynx and Wonderswan games, and a whopping two NGPC games.

They're pretty good as far as a store of that type goes. Generally knowledgeable and way more patient with people that I probably would be, were I in their shoes. There's a new one in Las Vegas too, but I've never been to Vegas and have no plans to ever go. Still, I hope it's cool for the people there, it's the same ownership so it should be?
There's some other stuff up here I have only been to once or twice or haven't been in years, so I can't really comment on those. But as far as downtown Seattle goes, that's what I've observed. Maybe in the shops a little further out, it's a different story.

Handhelds that are non-Nintendo never show up in my area lmao. They often need servicing, so people don’t usually accept them for much, let alone fix them up to put them on the floor.
I’ve been in the back of my main used store frequently, and Game Gears are everywhere because they all need new capacitors and screens, but that costs money, so they never get fixed. Sad, but true.
Also, I’ve only ever seen a WonderSwan ONCE. It was a beauty though. Had Final Fantasy II in it.

FR though it’s probably the Wii, everyone has a Wii, me describing a Sega Saturn or PSP is probably like elite ball knowledge to them. Though I could be wrong, my college actually has a PS3 and an Xbox 360 iirc. Haven’t played it cause their taste is dogshit, only Final Fantasy XIII is interesting at all

I see so many PS5 boxes in the trash I assume everyone's playing that. Although, I'm not sure if it's really retro, but a couple of years ago I was still getting a lot of Shadow Links appearing for my copy of Link Between Worlds. So people were still playing that and carrying around 3DS.

I'd say it's the PSP but then for over a month the demand on PS2 has overwhelmed that of the PSP

One of the owners has collected an entire set of Wonderswan stuff and kinda makes sure they have some stuff in stock. But they also have systems at the ready, they have people that can do repairs and they also clean stuff up really nice. It just depends on the demand in the area, I suppose.

Having scoured used stuff since the mid-90s, I've seen a ton of Wonderswans, just never pulled the trigger. I think the only thing I've ever seen just once is a Vectrex?

It is (and always has been) the PlayStation 1.

It's amazing how many homes had it, probably even more than the SEGA Genesis and the Famicom, themselves common household items.

In terms of collectors, every shop in my city that sells retro games has all the usual suspects, but they've lately been selling out of gamecube games like hotcakes. So I guess that's what's the trendiest console rn. I know in Australia, almost all of my friends growing up had Playstation 2's, whether it was for gaming, or the family just wanted a cheap DVD player.
