The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time (2026)

I could not care less about this remake, particularly if they're going the Star Fox route and just updating the graphics. If we get more details like they decide to expand the game or add in additional content I will consider getting hyped. Until I see word of that, I'd rather have a new Zelda thanks.

Finally Zelda, the REAL style, IS BACK!! Cant believe i lived long enough to see this!
Exactly. I tried to roll with BotW and TotK but they ultimately did not feel like Zelda to me. Even Link didn't look like Link. I was so frustrated you had to go through hell and back in BotW to get the classic tunic. Or pay money.

I also hope they expand on the lore and the gameplay in a way that feels organic.

FUCKING WHY!?!?

Are Starfox 64 and Ocarina of Time the only games Nintendo thinks exist anymore!? Sure, Starfox 64 has 1-2 games over OoT specifically (plus, there's 3X as many original Zelda games as Star Fox ones) but for crying out loud, what's there to gain from ANOTHER OoT remake?

There's no winning here, we either piss off fans by taking what we've learned form BotW/TotK, changing everything to have a non-linear, open world that doesn't railroad you with stupid plot shit, the same LttP formula that wrought the franchise stale. Or, we accomplish nothing with a 1:1 remake of a game everyone has broken down to it's atoms 20 years ago.

There's no point in going backwards in a series like Zelda, that is so vast in it's pool of concepts and ideas that we could easily rearrange stuff from 2-3 games across the timeline to create 10 different games that would put every western developer to shame.

I see where you're coming from. Its not lost on me this has been remade twice now. Nintendo is gonna Nintendo I guess. You make a great point with the BotW/TotK. I really don't want it to be that at all. Those are my least revisited games. And they're a gigantic time sink that I can rarely afford as an adult. Still, this is THE game of my childhood and I'm optimistic. And if they fuck it up the OG is still there.

This better not just be a facelift....

Still not buying a Switch 2 though, don't even want one for free, not even If I got paid to own one.

I can't wait for when the video critique apocalypse happens upon this game's release and everyone ether rips this thing apart like it is the newest evil in the series or love it to pieces.

For me, it looks interesting. Cautiously optimistic about this.

I've been on the same boat. With the PS5 as well. I would buy one secondhand for this though. Star Fox looks pretty rad too might I add.

You misinterpret what I desire from those games. I don't want OoT to become some Bethesda open world like that, especially with how boiler plate a lot of the content in BoTW could be. But the idea of just rushing over to Ganon and minutes into staring the game and beating the final boss in under a half-hour of booting up, that's what the important takeaway from BoTW.

LttP has set a tiring president for the series that it only ever got over with BoTW/TotK. Your dragged by the nose through 3-4 areas in a stiffly linear fashion without being able to do anything else until the game lets you. Then, you get punked by the villain after all your hard work and have to got through 4 more temples before the game is over.

LttP has Agahim sacrifice Zelda regardless of what you do. OoT has Ganon steal the Triforce under your nose regardless of what you do. WW forces Link to get the AA batteries for the Master Sword so that Ganon can capture Zelda regardless of what you do. TP has Zants just no-sells the fused shadows the moment you collect them all just to make you get the mirror shards. Skyward Sword was nothing but a cocktease with all of the Master Sword powering up.

It's the reason speedrunning became so popular with these games, because you just want to skip over all this shit. I want my input as a player to count, and if I want to enter the Deku tree without the sword, I want to be able to push Mido out of the way and tell him to fuck off.

I really don't think we need a remake of this game. There's so much more Nintendo could be doing with the franchise, especially with the Hero of Time. There's a fan-made animated Zelda series that comes to mind called Hero's Purpose that takes place far after Majora's Mask with Link coming back to Hyrule. Something like that, exploring the untold stories of the heroes we already know, I think would be way a better way to revisit the past games.

I'd like to say we'd get something like that if this sells amazing, which it will. But at best they'll probably just remake Majora's as well. Anything beyond that is unlikely. If they did though I'm completely on board to see more of this Link's life and times.

So then what specifically would you hope for out of this remake? Say you were directing it.

I've been hoping since this leaked that it wasn't true...

I feel like I could fill up the 10,000 character limit discussing how I feel about this, and I'd probably get 5150'd for how schizophrenic I'd sound.

My short version is this:
It looks good so far. If this is going to happen, I want massive changes. However, this is too precious of a game to me, and I still wish the 3DS version never happened, let alone this. There is no possible way they can nail the tone.

tbh i think nintendo is remaking OoT not just because it's safe and makes money, but because i think they were afraid that a new zelda in the style before BotW wouldn't be received well. so they're remaking OoT as a test. i can see a brand new zelda in this style of game design being made if OoT does well.

yea i can already see the comparisons and internet arguments about how the original is better.

Whatever changes they are I hope they don't take any cues from FF7Remake's plot. Someone explained that one to me and boy did they try WAY too fucking hard. I'm never investing the time.

I found the 3DS version harmless personally I had a lot of fun with it.

It's funny, because in conversation with my fiancé we we're both hoping it would have a "Rebuild" approach as we call it, based off of the Evangelion rebuild films.

FF7R series is pretty great if you move on from the fakeout of it not being a 1:1 remake of the game. The fact that players that are frustrated with the changes are personified in the plot of the story, and have to be defeated to give the characters agency, is extremely interesting.

New ideas are good. If they're going to do this, I'd like to see it retold in a way that makes it fall in line with the BOTW/TOTK timeline. It would be deliciously controversial.

I don't doubt the game will be fun to play, and will likely be filled with fun fanservice. My main concern is the tone being ruined like it was with the 3DS remaster. At the very least, if the game is way different, the difference in tone won't feel as jarring if it's doing it's own thing like FF7R does.

As the only Zelda I can confidently say I enjoyed (yep, shoot me), this is huge.

Edit: On second thought, no don't shoot me, thanks

It's almost worse than wanting to play it safe imo...

BotW's gameplay system could've been improved upon instead of going back to what people liked for the sake of servicing the fans...

I can see a brand new zelda in this style of game design being made if OoT does well.
Wouldn't it be regression for the franchise? I'd rather see a game in the style of BotW/TotK but with more dungeons, more items and more methods to explore the map, not another linear game with one dungeon, one item and one trip in the field before going to the next dungeon, we got that since 1991...

The true fan animation worth seeing Is this.

People want a "OoT 3" (or "MM 2") set between Majora and Twilight Princess but I also want Nintendo to let the Hero of Time go because he's already done his job saving Hyrule and Termina.

There's a good reason why Wind Waker had a new hero, why ALBW showed the ALTTP Link old and having his well deserved rest in Kakaricot village as well as the Hero's Shade giving his techniques to the Hero of Twilight.

Dude I honestly never caught that. But its been a fat minute since I played through ALBW. That is indeed awesome I'll have to keep a lookout for that tidbit once I fix my 3DS.

It's mostly implied (nothing explicitly stated) but I'm glad to see the protagonist of a previous game.

In Wind Waker you see the Hero of Time only as a statue in the sunken Hyrule Castle's main room which makes sense as he came back to his timeline, thus Twilight Princess featuring him as a ghost.

I should've put that in spoiler but I guess that it doesn't affect the game that much.
