The Inn -- General Gaming Chat

Yup... It's the one Sonic game that kept everyone sane in the mid-late 2010s when otherwise all Sonic fans had to play was Boom slop and Forces.
Seems like the mid-late of the decade is the risky moment, between the 90's with the transition to 3D on the Saturn, the dark ages with Shadow and 2006 and Lost World to Forces.

(At least the Boom show was funny).

sonic boom, huh?

also i keep thinking in my mind that the wii u and the 3ds aren't that old, but now they're unsupported & discontinued. nintendo is two consoles ahead from back then.

I once played nethack thinking that it would be some sort of virtual dungeons and dragons

How wrong was I

Watching the trailer for Black Flag, I am soooooo excited for this game, the original is the best AC game imo, hoping this one holds up but it looks very promising.

If they managed to screw that up. Idk what else i expect from Ubisoft

Part of me considers that in order to be able to get modern hardware, I shouldnt get a job bc im too young and lazy, but rather i'd either die and reincarnate as someone rich, rob a bank, or even steal the hardware from the mall. And yes, I know one of these involves death two out of three of these things are illegal, but still, I want modern consoles and a better PC

I swear it seems the more I play Golden Axe 3, the more it grows on me. To think that at one point I actually thought it was bad
GA3 is an okay game, but I don't like the feel of it, and very much prefer Revenge of Death Adder and Warrior Blade: Rastan III. Those felt like proper sequels to the original Golden Axe.

The franchise is called Street Fighter, yet many fights don't take place on the streets (some parts of Alpha [mainly 2], III and VI especially mostly fixed this), nor are most of the cast actual street fighters. Or they don't have street fighting as their style. The only people who count or are considered actual street fighters are Birdie, Cody, and Poison. Characters like Guy, Maki, and Kimberly are considered "street ninjas". Yet, the other fighters who are a martial artist in their respective fighting style/discipline aren't afraid to play dirty. Though if certain fighters tried the dirty tactics like they did in their actual tournament fighting or a professional career/sanctioned match, it would get them kicked out, banned, or disqualified.

Makoto for example, is a much more grounded/realistic take of an actual Shotokan practitioner. No fireballs, nor spinning kicks, but I highly doubt a punch to the groin or a headbutt would be considered legal in her area of practice or in a more professional karate tournament. At least two moves Dudley does in SF III or IV would be considered illegal in an official boxing match. It's a conundrum that sometimes keeps me awake at night. I've been thinking about this I was a teenager.

Golden Axe 3 and Bare Knuckles III are not bad per se but their weakest of their respective trilogies...

I would still take BKIII over GA3 and Final Fight 3 any day of the week. Rushing Beat Shura not so much, but it plays better than GA3 and FF3, and actually does the multiple paths/storyline route better than all of the games I just mentioned.

You know what's crazy? The Jaguar may have been THE console to own if you were an FPS junkie in the 90s.

Think about it:

Their version of Doom is widely considered to be as good as it gets for consoles.

Wolfenstein 3D on the same platform is actually regarded as an improvement over the DOS original and has been hailed as the definitive version to play.

And Alien vs Predator was also a system seller.

That's three titles (two of which were genre-defining) done best on Atari's console.

Kinda wish they had (literally) gone guns-crazy and made a bunch of these... Maybe then we would think of the Jag as a hidden juggernaut of the console wars.

We're lacking a player, if anyone's interested in joining:

But you can run though? Also the music is pretty good and even dare I say eclectic
Just because you can run/dash in a brawler, doesn't automatically make it good. Also, you can run in Golden Axe I, II, and Revenge of Death Adder. So Golden Axe III was breaking new ground in any capacity. Though running is better in Bare Knuckle III.

Agreed.

In fact if everyone could run in SoR 4 it could break some of the game design.

That's pretty much why they removed running, aside from Cherry, Adam's dash, and Shiva's dash in the final build of the game. They didn't want to make the same mistakes as Streets of Rage Remake, and try to solve the problem my making enemies damage sponges. Also, the forward blitz attacks and specials, and/or their alternates acts as sorta dashes or gap closers to make up for them.

I remember people like Woolie and Pat called it "bad game design" in comparison to River City Girls. RCG is a good game, but it has its own problems that makes me not interested, and can't be saved just because everyone has a run. It's one of the few times I 100% disagreed with them, and you could tell they only played the game once and never touched it again.

Cherry, like Skate, are compensating their low HP and weak strength for speed so it makes sense to have them running. Giving a run button to, let's say, Max would just mean that he'd be not only strong but also quick so that would make the rest of the cast obsolete and lower tiered than him.

Zan is powerful (but not like Max) and his run attack is quite strong to the point you could spam it.

I'm no beat'em up purist but I dislike the trend of modern ones giving your characters too many moves (and having light RPG elements when not necessarily needed).

The extra moves I can live with even, if or when they're not that useful or redundant. The "rpg elements" have been way overdone or almost always superficial. They've been done so much, that whatever was unique about them ain't a case anymore. The only game to perfect this system is still Guardian Heroes.

You can also run in Shinobi III: Return Of The Ninja Master and that whole first level is amazing as a tutorial stage, just running and slashing the absolute shit out of everything
