Driver 2, the first game that I played on the ps1, it was amazing, it felt like a Hollywood action driving film. The gameplay was amazing even to this day, the collisions felt realistic at the time, the police were annoying which in my opinion is what made the game fun, the cutscenes were amazing and felt like you were in a movie. The 70s atmosphere made the game feel great with cars like the Chevelle, Caprice, And the Pontiac Trans Am that made it feel more like a 70s action movie. I’m actually a Gen Z’er, but I was obsessed with retro stuff even though I was never born at that era. The first driver though, wasn’t as interesting as the second one, it doesn’t have the cinematic feel of Driver 2, but it is pretty good.
I played Driv3r for a while, it was interesting, but it wasn’t as good as driver 2, the shooting mechanic made it feel like a GTA clone, but the driving and graphics were great, other than that, the game feels like an unfinished GTA clone.
Driver parallel lines was pretty great, the shooting which was TRASH in the last game was fixed and made better, the driving felt great, and the cinematic feel of driver 2 was back, it was set in the 70s again which was great, the game overall was good, but it lost the driver feel and personality.
Driver San Francisco, it was weird and great at the same time, the shifting mechanic made me have the shortest attention span in chase missions, the story was good but twisted, it was great overall, it had 140 vehicles, I’m talking sedans, SUVs, super cars, trucks, pickups, buses too, etc. That made the game feel more immersive. It was great, and I wish that reflections would release another driver game.

And if someone has another opinion then let’s discuss it, thank you.

The first action-racing game that I remember playing is Split/Second on PC, it was like some weird reality TV show.

i'm a big fan of Rush 2049, the battle mode was so much fun, stunt mode was well, stunts! and the racing was wild (with wings to spin and flip and such, console versions only had this, dreamcast, n64)

but yeah i'm just more into like twisted metal series and mario kart style battle modes

Ubisoft didn't get why Driver was good and why it had its own thing separate from an ordinary open world game therefore making video games same as others doesn't make a series better. Games gotta be different to sell, when its generic then people will play the better generic one.

That being said, why first two Driver games were good is because it interested people who like to drive cars but they wanna experience something else beyond racing. These genre games like Stuntman series appeal particular people who may like GTA and whatnot shooters but it was nice to change the gameplay style from time to time after you get bored of GTA and shooters.

It's actually cool that first 2 Driver games made the character has enough importance to feel "a driver exist" as the whole reality of the game literally created around the idea of it's all about you are a driver so your car go brrr lol. But then what Ubisoft did? They turned the series a weird movie idea that lost its "driver" theme because the nonsense trivial pointless plot they emphasized made the series lost the plot lol. I like Driver 3 and Parallel Lines as a game, but as a Driver game they are not a Driver game so no wonder people lost interest. When GTA SA was popular it was so nonsense to develop a "GTA-like game" that's not even better than GTA so no wonder people didn't like these games much. When GTA 2 and 3 was popular we played first 2 Driver games and we didn't compare 2 series because each did their own thing and therefore Driver games were satisfyaing in their own context so IDK what kind of smart cookie thought when people like Driver series because they just wanna experience "driving action" that's seperate from "car actions" they thought adding TPS action would be a great idea lol. Imagine making Sims turn into RTS war game that you have to defend your home or something. I mean for a reason series is liked because of the "genre" and "theme" they have that ensure a particular gameplay style that's different in its own context to make people interested especially when they are bored of playing certain genre of games. For example when I get bored of playing RPG I play action games that I don't wanna bother level up and stuff, and then when I get bored I play plain racing games, then I play games like Sims, then I play strategy games and so on. When games being a generic thing that has "everything" it limits my options by only focusing on "best in the genre". So when they turned RPG games into generic FPS games then I ignore new RPG FPS BS games and focus on games like Rage 2 instead of playing new Resident Evil games and The Outer World games. When GTA series didn't improve since GTA SA I play Saints Row 4 instead. When they spam turn based games I play Pokemon Red or Persona games again instead. They should give up developing generic games without different gameplay because when they do no wonder even kids born like 10 years ago are more interested with PS2 and even Sega Genesis games and it's not necessarly about retro interest but rather it was when video game industry was actually about video games so naturally when a person is gamer they won't have any interest in most of games released since 2010, especially since 2016. Honestly if I had born in this era I cannot see myself being a gamer at all. If I never had played Sega Genesis games and wasn't lived in that culture I really cannot see myself ever interested in video games unless somehow some PS2 games managed to capture my interest but I doubt.

This is a very specific genre focused only on Driver and GTA. I am not fan of either, so I would come with a more fun game which is Felony 11-79 :)

Oh yeah, the Runabout series. I played them like a crazy guy back then ever since one of my friend gave me the games. I ended up buying the games from him because it was hard to find a copy and he didn't like them much lol.

I wish video games were creative again instead of being filled with interractive netflix BS that only has whatever is generic and popular in social aspect. We even lost Japanese games, our last hope is indie developers anymore because only them are left to develop a video game for video game fun lol. *he plays Chef RPG while crying lol*

Trackmania Nations Forever on PC was great, had a lot of fun with it

I only played the first Driver, but it was really fun until I got to some mission where you had to... protect the president's daughter or something? Anyway, it was impossible, so I never finished it. I really liked just driving around and how the hubcaps could come off and roll away.

I don't know that I've played anything similar to that, other than GTA of course. But for stuff that's open world like that with missions, I'm only coming up with Test Drive Unlimited and that XBLA game where it was an open world dirtbike thing? But neither of those really had missions in the form of advancing a story, just to finish a checklist really.
