I was watching Getter Robo today and, doing some research based on what I saw inbetween episodes, I encountered that it's sequel: Getter Robo G alongside four other anime series was chosen to be a part of an American adaptation series of exactly five series. Most of the entries picked were created by Leiji Matsumoto & Go Nagai. These include:

- Dino Mech Gaiking (1976) / Force Five: Gaiking

- Planetary Robot Danguard Ace (1977) / Force Five: Danguard Ace

- Getter Robo G (1975) / Force Five: Starvengers

- UFO Robot Grendizer (1975) / Force Five: Grandizer

- Sci-Fi West Saga Starzinger (1978) / Force Five: Starketeers

Interestingly enough, Great Mazinger was going to be on this list, but was swapped out for Starzinger instead.
3 of these shows are mecha, and Getter Robo G is actually a direct sequel from the original Getter Robo in 1974, if Great was on this list, it would have been two shows that were latent sequels to their original shows. Which makes for a very odd choice.

Did anyone grow up watching these versions, and if you have experience with the original versions, how greatly did they differ? I'd love to hear about them!
