I understand that it was the zeitgeist of the y2k era but I do appreciate how games, especially early PS2 among some Dreamcast and early Gamecube titles, had either a computer like interface, minimalistic menus and even that whole "Virtual Reality" aspect going on.

I cannot word everything properly but this video summarised that quite well

PS: I also appreciate how much emphasis was put on water as well.

This is from 2007 but I still find fascinating that Assassin's Creed 1 had a very "Cyberfuturistic" ambient when you are in both the real world and the animus
the Animus menu is shown like you are a User using a computer

And the interface is very minimalistic compared to the later entries

Is just your health bar, the weapon you are using, the commands and the map, the game doesn't even have subtitles.

Yeah I played the game pretty late (the second one was already released) so I knew about the game but had no idea it had that futuristic aspect, it was quite surprising to say the least.

And I loved it.

Probably the number 1 game in the category "games I want to forget so that I can discover it again", with Dangan Ronpa, Ghost Trick and Shadow of Memories.

Also, is the Metal Gear series something that would be considered a game with this cyberfuturistic feeling ?
Some codex discussions felt really uncanny.

Shadow of Memories.
Very beautiful game, had to read a guide to get all the endings but it was worth every minute, I liked the graphics very much and I enjoyed exploring the town back and forth through time!

Definitely, there's a reason why most of them are one of the most influential games (even the Ghost Babel one)

This game was so good, it was surprising and weird that it was levels instead of a semi open world (I guess we can describe it like that) but I liked this departure from the series.
It's on the bucketlist. Fucking love 2D Metal Gear. Metal Gear 2 is close to my favorite game of all time, before Kojima got drunk on his own farts.

MGS 1 had that Matrix-esque green tint (but before Matrix came out).

MGS 2 was even more into that feeling, especially with the themes around Raiden and towards the end of that game.

before Kojima got drunk on his own farts.
I would say that it started around 3-4 but I get what you mean.

While I'm not a big fan of AC I do like the futuristic UI of the animus (even though it may look weird to see a sci-fi HUD when you're in antiquity).

Diegetic Uis Need a Comeback. I've been playing the .Hack Games Recently and I love the Menus, and how they work. It's like I'm on a PC logging into an MMO. So Cool. I hate how everything is so boring nowadays. Not just in Games, but IRL too. 0 Inspiration, No Soul, it's all sleek, and monochromatic, all straight lines

crimson tears and the bouncer did it best on the ps2 imo and if astral chain came out during that time it woulda been an instant hit.

Soul Hackers is really cool, It's probably my favourite megaten game. the "cyberpunk" style is on point. From a modern point of view, it's kinda funny how It's about virtual reality stealing your soul.

Kojima is a talented creator sure, but he is one those "George Lucas"-type of creators:
Due to his previous success, the guy now has absolute creative freedom to whatever he wants but this also means that there's nobody to keep him in line and stop any strange idea he may come up with (Jar Jar in the Prequels is the classic example).
Many such cases of this happening, Yoshiyuki Tomino from the Gundam series wold be another great example.

I wish this wasn't stuck on the Saturn and 3DS (this little handheld is getting older).

I think I even prefer the Devil Summoner sub-series over mainline SMT.

Yeah, it's a bit of the issue with giving too much freedom without directions.

PS: What has Tomino done with Gundam?

Universal Century, basically everything he worked on as director between 79 and Turn-A feels like the work of mad man. (Char's Counterattack is good though)
Have you seen Zeta or ZZ? I cannot believe that those are made by the same person as 79; All the non-Tomino directed UC shows are amazing though, when people say the universal century is good you can bet they are talking about Stardust Memory, War in the pocket or 8th MS team

Oh right, Burger and Corvette.

I'll be honest, I think I prefer Stardust Memory and War in the Pocket over the og series. I need to watch 8th MS Team someday.

Back to Cyberfuturism though:

I'm still addicted to these intros

I loved the voice of the AI in Ikaruga as well

I need to understand why silent title screens were popular back then.

PS: I also love how in the older versions of PSO you had that nice background (which sadly felt like a downgrade on Gamecube onwards)

Ikaruga! So I am not alone in loving that frustrating, hard as fuck game! The music in that game is phenomenal, and the design of the ship? Oh man, it's freaking awesome.

I'll never forget about the game, the soundtrack, the aesthetic among many things.

I love the calligraphy style as well.

Thanks! I love Facing Worlds' dnb. Oni has been long forgotten in favour of Halo...

It's so hard to find stuff about this game... because it shows just how much love can be poured into something great. I also tried to find a model kit for the ship, but the prices are so damn high.

Treasure were really that great... I cannot think of a lot of companies to be on that level (maybe Hal lab, Platinum and Grasshopper? I can't tell surely).

Model kits and figurines are not easy to find for an affordable price since they're made in limited number.

As for the thread itself I think that Melee is special in Smash simply for having some "cyberspace" kind of aesthetic in the menus

Especially in the Race to the Finish level
