Haven't had a chance to play through the whole thing yet, but from what I've experienced, it's good. Similar to Huntdown, another indie game that came out a few years back. 2D run and gun/beat em up hybrid. Vast majority of the game you play as Sarah Conner with T-1000/Adult John Connor serving as secondary characters in slightly changed up sections. Very brief area where you play as young John Connor. Few people compared it to Contra, but that's not entirely true. It's a bit slower paced and your much more durable. Has a cover system and melee combos you can bust out in between shooting bad guys/terminators. Also has a bit of a diverging story element in replays of the game. Can change up some of the original movie's scenes. Follows the plot of T2 pretty closely. Easily one of the better indie games to come out this year.

I grabbed a copy but haven't had a chance to start it yet. I enjoyed Huntdown a lot, and I've been hearing praise for this one too so I'm looking forward to giving it a shot.

I'm about to play through it and a few other indie sprite games I've been saving for a "marathon," so far the first two levels were very good.

It looks great, but like most new releases I'll just wait for a deep sale to play it. Often times it just sits in the library anyway for a while before I get around to playing it. ::sailor-embarrassed

It's a very short game, so that's not a bad idea. Unless you're really into terminator and plan on replaying it for high scores you'll only get about an hour to two hours out of it.

Certainly one of the better tie-in games from what I can tell from some reviews. I'll try it sometime. I think we're on a resurgence of tie-ins and licensed-stuff games.

I'm glad this seems to be getting a warm reception... but for me, it's too little, too late 🫤

Don't get me wrong, T2 was a massive part of my childhood! And I've spent untold amounts of quarters on both the pinball and arcade machines of the time. Heck, I even had the original T2 Game Boy game, which I got for the holidays in 1992 or so. But my Terminator fandom just isn't strong enough to get me to plunk down the cash for this one.

That, and without Arnie's likeness, the whole thing just feels a little off. I get that he doesn't really want to be associated with the brand (or its violence) anymore, but a piece of Terminator media without the Terminator is always going be lacking a certain something by default 😅

He's in the game. All of his scenes are.

Is that right?? Maybe I got some bum intel, then!

I couldn't help but notice that he seemed to be missing from the marketing. And when I saw some spritework from the game in a preview, I didn't think it looked much like Schwarzenegger at all. The preview I read (on NintendoLife) also mentioned his absence from the game.

Maybe something changed between the preview and the final? If so, I'm all for it 🙌

EDIT: Just read NintendoLife's final review. They confirmed that Arnie isn't in it... while also including a screenshot right above that sentence that features a Terminator sprite that looks so similar, I feel the issue is a moot point. Looks close enough for me, actual likeness or no 🥳

He's in the game for three missions. And, most of the major scenes featuring him in the movie are there. too. Vast majority of the game is played as Sarah Conner and John Conner. Peak of the game are the Contra future levels. The melee shoot em up levels are good, too. Low point are vehicle levels, which are simply ok. With all the levels factored in and replay mode for score I figure the game is good for about three to four hours of gameplay. Good to leave on your desktop and rush through if you like replaying these kinds of games. I think the thirty dollar price tag might have been a bit on the ambitious side when it comes to pricing. It's a good game. Wish there was more of it. Need some DLC for some T-800/T-1000 missions.

The price feels kinda high but I still bought it because I want to support these types of efforts, just haven't had a chance to play it yet. I hope they will do an "Alien" one in the same vein as Alien 3 for the SNES!

Also the fact that you compared it to Showdown is very promising. That game absolutely nailed what it was trying to acheive and was a blast to play with a friend.

Alright, finally did everything in the game. Total playtime was about 4 hours of replaying what was essentially a thirty minute arcade's worth of content. Difficulty levels mix up the enemy bosses and attack patterns. Not a big fan of the way the check point system works on normal and above. Due to the lack of different characters you're not going to get a lot of replay out of your replays. The three different story modes were gated behind replaying the first third of the game three times, which I didn't like. And, the third path felt like an unnecessary waste of time. As it was just the second path without the T-800's part or an interesting ending. More like an alternative game over screen. This game needed more content as what's there is very good. But, not nearly enough of it. There is a final mode you unlock that lets you play as T-800 for a sort of gauntlet mode. Might consider that a "second" Arnold stage, but that's being generous.
