Team Fortress 2

Is scunting really that bad?

they're really annoying if they're good. at least until you're on a choke heavy payload map, then they switch to another class.

I have a surplus of Mann vs Machine tickets my friends and I use to spend the odd evening engaging in good, Co-op horde fun.
Started out as a joke after Overwatch 2 cancelled its promised free narrative campaigns for each hero and instead dumped a $15 horde mode.
>Why pay for that when MvM is much cheaper & you get rewards for finishing a run
Turns out MvM is still ludicrously fun.

Oh and the Bot plague is mitigated by using your preferred trusted community servers.
I never liked the re-design that encouraged quick play into "official" servers, the centralised nature encouraged bots. Nor did I engage with the bolted on ranking system.
But then again I actually purchased TF2 back in 2010 and I remember playing on servers than banned F2P Players well into the mid 2010's lol
I am old and new features scare me.

TEAM DEFENCE FORT 2 (Two) is still an incredible game.

even then i think the community servers don't feel the same as they used to be.

I booted up TF2 last year (Outside of MvM) because my GF has never played prophunt (in any form) and I couldn't find a single populated server, same with Vs Saxton Hale, Deathrun or Parkour they were all dead.
Even the all year Halloween, x10 & randomiser servers were barely scraping past 5v5.
All the players were filtered into official payload/capture point maps. Bot central.

I loathe quickplay, it did more harm to the community then the bots ever have.

And my gf still hasn't experienced prop hunt ;~;

if i could legally ban all quickplay and matchmaking i would. online games like this live by their communities and the variety their servers bring. streamlining things like this does more harm then good.

Accessibility is a death sentence for hobbies & their communities. TF2 never needed such features but they were added and to no ones surprise it did nothing to stop the slow death of a 18 year old game...

That's right now as I write has more active online players than Overwatch 2. Bless SteamDB.

TF2 never died, it's still thriving despite the numerous handicaps placed upon it by Valve. It may be the closest thing to a perfect, eternal online game we will ever get and I adore it.

true it really is just that good. people are developing their own versions of it. hopefully they can bring back some of that old spark.

Just re-introducing a paywall would do wonders. Never underestimate the power an entry fee has to deter tourists, bots and literal children who shouldn't be touching an M Rated games.
$5 for TF2 Classic? Sign me up heck I'd pay more.

unfortunately they may not be able to do that unless valve gives the ok. kinda like black mesa.

I don't think that's systematically the truth.

For bots and hackers I agree.

But what's a tourist anyway?

As for kids I could agree that having them in an online environment with strangers could be problematic but visually it's less violent than an old Call of or Counter Strike yet those also have kids in them.

When you only have 30 minutes to an hour tops after work to enjoy a little gaming
So you join a server:
Several players are trying in vain to shoot through glass or open doors, complaining in chat how TF2 is unrealistic
Crits are enabled so that's a whole biblical revelation for the aforementioned cult or realism who think weapon stats not being fixed is several homophobic slurs of terrible, and they're not shy about using chat to voice this opinion
Some are complaining about being unable to pick up weapons outside of the class they're playing, others that the cool sword they equipped as the soldier won't let them switch back so the game is broken
Team composition is ruined, but no one was attempting to complete an objective anyway
One guy just discovered taunting. That's his entire purpose in life for the rest of the round
Some one is spamming NSFW/Crypto links in chat
There's a Demoman raging that he takes splash damage from his own explosives, yet doesn't learn from his numerous deaths
A solider who rocket jumping himself into the afterlife faster than a lvl 1 teleporter takes to recharge
One person is begging you for your cosmetic whilst not knowing how to trade
There a "battle" medic who only Ubers for himself as he thinks its a personal shield
Woops it's been 45 minutes, you've ran out of time. Better luck next week.

I've lived through this more times that I like to admit, because it actively reduces my appreciation for TF2 when ever I recall these evenings.
If you never experienced TF2 Tourists I am envious.
But I don't want my limited time ruined by some idiot who installs, fails to understand and then uninstalls TF2 in the same day.

TF2 is such a weird game for me, because it feels like it's not really dead, but at the same time (with everyone saying that it is dead), it feels like it has died. The game is very good, but I feel like it's a hollow version of itself that I just can't seem to enjoy anymore, because there isn't much to gain and do from playing it.

Schrödinger's game.

Man, everytime I return to this game it should feel like a fresh air of nostalgia. Instead it's polluted farts of bots and complete unbalancedness. I'm still happy with those 634 hours. Who knows if I'll ever commit to do 32 more for the big funny.

Anyways I had more fun with Heavy+Medic (both), Engineer and Sniper. Yes, I'm a noob, I don't care. Never have been huge into FPS but some games remains pillars of the genre, including ofc this one.

There's still bots? I thought they got rid of them when I played it again when Vs. Hale became an official mode.

I gotta return playing it, then. Last time I tried was years ago. But I remember how badly it was to play it. Almost unplayable.

Aren't there still hackers on the official servers? I think that was the reason it kind of started dying off.

Bots/hackers are almost nonexistent now. Valve cracked down on it super hard this past year.
You’ll still meet god gamers who have a billion hours played though.
