English Translation for Tales of Phantasia - Full Voice Edition, the earlier, more purist friendly port of ToP for the PSP with gameplay much closer to the PS1 version. This game would be later tweaked for a different gameplay feel and added to Cross Edition.

Author(s): Life Bottle Productions
Type: Translation
Version: 1.0
Date: 27th of June, 2026
Status: Fully Playable
Source: https://github.com/lifebottle/Tales-of-Phantasia-Full-Voice-Edition/releases/tag/v1.0

RB's Notes 1: As with Tales of Phantasia X, there is an optional download that ports some of the improvements introduced in it to this game, should one choose to have them.

Speaking of Tales stuff, could someone upload the demo for Twin Brave? It has an exclusive story scenario that isn't in the main game.

The miracle of fanart, bringing our misconceptions to life in the Breastest of ways.

Now, being slightly more on topic, I've never actually played a tales game before. Is this a good starting point?
I prefer Phantasia Cross edition. Spell freeze is garbage and the game is better without it. It was also never a hard game to begin with and ripping spell freeze out of the game actually forces you to try harder when it comes to comboing with your team mates in addition to making the fights go a lot faster, which reduces tedium from random encounters since you aren't spending half of a battle watching cutscenes. So to answer, no, I don't think this version of the game is a good starting point. Phantasia Cross is an excellent starting point though. Phantasia has a classic phantasy story that is uplifted significantly by its cast and the way they deal with things like grief and bounce off each other. In addition to that, the level design is decent as well, the pacing is fantastic, and the music is also fantastic. The game is also pretty lean if you use enhanced holy bottles. You can kinda cruise through the game in like 40 hours.

In case someone is wondering, the text says:
ずっとこうだと思ってた: I always thought she was like this.
The artist thought right, and I wish I could alter the in-game sprites to reflect that.
Berseria is IMHO the best "Modern one" to this day...I def think it is better than Vesperia and that is not as subjective as it sounds... and Vesperia is a great game with a really cool cast, so that is saying allot... regardless of platform... I have played the switch port of Vesperia and some names were changed like the bumbling guardsman (and that bothered me for some reason minor nitpick)Tales of Arise is good> AT FIRST... but when the title screen changes after you get a certain ways into the game (thats a thing with some tales of games after certain plot points) it goes south quickly... I still think Tales of the Abyss is the best place to start though... and I've played EVERY single T-O game that was ever translated to English however my first game was the PSX version of Tales of Destiny and ive been hooked on Tales of ever since.
Alright, perhaps I'll check out Berseria or Abyss sometime. Rpg's ARE a timesink, however, so I gotta be in the right mood.

Vesperia's the one I'm most familiar with, on account of having seen bits of playthroughs some years past. I'd always considered but never got the switch version, despite the frequent discounts (which in turn made me question if it was truly a quality port).

I think a good "Tales of.... Starting point is -> "Tales of the Abyss"...my personal favorite story wise... I think if you start there you will want to play all of them...The best ones including Vesperia, Berseria, Symphonia 1(not DOTNA) and Xillia most of these can be played in any order but there are some connected games (Skip Zesteria though IMHO)

does this game removed the pause when spell is cast or the vanila patch?
The removal of casting pause was something ToP X introduced, I believe, meaning this (ToP FVE) does pause when spells are cast.

For anyone confused, this version is very close to the PS1 release in terms of gameplay, with the added bonus of full voice acting. Meanwhile, Tales of Phantasia X (Cross Edition) modernizes the combat and also has a new playable character.

In every version of Tales of Phantasia except ToPX, spells will pause the battle when they're cast. Removing that brings the combat more in line with later Tales games, and it's a very noticeable flow improvement considering that most of your party consists of spellcasters in Phantasia.

The catch is that ToPX wasn't really rebalanced around this change and so what first feels like a great QoL improvement has obvious implications on the balance of the game. Not a big deal IMO since ToP's battle system isn't anything marvelous compared to something like Tales of Graces.

As for the brand new party member, I personally wasn't a fan of her backstory since she heavily leans into what feels like fanfic OC tropes
(a time-traveling swordswoman who befriends the main villain)

so i've played this on SNES, GBA (eww), PS1, and the full voice edition (in japanese, they didn't change that much)
and now i'm playing the cross (x) edition,
i have to say whatever changes the cross x version has, i like it.
it's a speedy game and definitely falls into what the newer games do.
i mean you have to cheat to use rondo the whole game (she leaves the party more than being in it)
i usually don't recommend cheats but in that case, you barely get enough time to use her.
heard you don't even use her for the final boss fight (if i'm misinformed let me know i didn't go through cross edition entirely yet)

Full English voice?!

oh.. save file from X edition is different.. lol

is the vanila patch has x edition features?
If you get vanilla, you don't get the quality of life features Life Bottle Productions added, like enhanced Holy Bottle and not required to have the Sorcerers Ring equipped to use it.

Naw but fer real I never saw them as... tatas, till you said it LOL

Those're some poofy pants she has tho!

Technically, it does, since this version has a different battle UI compared to the cross edition. The old Japanese page had some screenshots (in 10+ years old nicoblog quality too lol).

Beyond that, the two versions looked identical, really.
Thanks for letting me know. I'll replace them later with some screenies I'll take myself.

Sorry, I just wanted to get the post up quickly. I doubt it really looks any different though.
