The long awaited hack that meshes Metroid Fusion and Super Metroid utilizing the latter as an engine, possibly creating the best version of the former.
Can I deduct that I can play it even if I haven't played the originals, and then play the originals later on?
I agree with you, programming, visually is a masterpiace.
Considering that even the X works different here, I think you can just play this one and later the original fusion, they don't respect each other lore anyways
About Super Metroid... Ehm, if you don't care too much about the story, just go on. Tho, this one is harder than Super Metroid, so you may need a little bit of practice there before trying this one.

You will get more of a kick from this game if you know the lore, however.
Also, I recomend that you learn how to Wall Jump and Shinespark. It will make your life easier.

For the people out there that's getting discouraged based on what certain players are saying, as a player that have beaten the game even on Omega Mode, let me say this:
This by no means a kaizo experience. The game works just like any other custom hack would and it is perfectly possible to finish with no speedrunner tricks at all. With that being said, this project is harder than your Vannila Super Metroid experience, even on Easy.
Face-tanking damage is never a good idea. Understand what each challenge asks you and respond acordingly. Should you do that, there will be nothing in here that will block your progress nor be a obstacle to beat the game.
And I say that even for people that didn't played Fusion/SM and are looking for an interesting experience. Just be aware that this hack will ask a degree of skill from you.
If it gets too hard, an Easy Mode was added to the 1.2 revision and it has the same ending as Normal, so you can experience the game this way.
I wanted a more open-ended experience of Fusion and I got just that.
Even with the small problems this project has, it didn't killed my enjoyment about it one bit.
So yeah, pick it up and play it at your own discretion. It's a cool hack.

Unfortunately, I can't give you a precise answer :
- I played the original Fusion a lot.
- I played Super Metroid even more (as well as quite a few romhacks) : it's simply my all time favourite video game.
- I've only just started playing this one ^^
However, I think it helps more to have played and mastered Super Metroid rather than Fusion (but more for the game mechanics since the romhack has a completely different map).
I recommend use save states if you don't feel skilled enough to pass difficult sections. It's no joke when they say this romhack is as tough as break a coconut with the teeths.
This game is a kind of Fusion "reinterpretation" in the Super Metroid engine. Story isn't quite the same and has forks. GFX are taken directly from Fusion but the map is completely different.
This hack is truly a programming masterpiece (but it's true that it is difficult).

Being a casual player, savestates help. The game would be too hard otherwise.
However, when you find your difficulty/speed balance, the game is fantastic and has a continuous implicit 'story flow' type of playing which interests me. I don't play metroid hacks usually, this is getting me hyped!
Question: I haven't played the originals, is this an exact clone of the original games, or being a mix, it offers different game flavours?
Asking as I may want to play the originals and if someone knows better I may halt this to play the originals first.

this is not a casual game i repeat this is not casual game even in easy or super difficulty you wont survive unless you know the trick for that game and also the game have strange/odd placement for items i see well they want you to enjoy this extreme game.

I struggled to get into this one honestly. It's filled with insta death moments and just odd level design. I'm sure it has its audience, but it's just not for me. And Super Metroid is my favorite game of all time.
From what I've read the author is still actively polishing it and 1.2 offers a significantly better experience, but I guess we'll see. Unlike you, I'm not a Metroid expert per se, but I absolutely love Fusion and AM2R, so guess I might be biased.
