I have been a huge fan of the Super Mario series since I was 2 years old back in 1992, and since then, I have played all the Mario games from NES-Switch, GB-3DS, and the weird ones from DOS and CDi. I have watched the three animated Mario shows, saw the 1993 film, saw the 2023 animated film, met the voice of Mario (Charles Martinet) twice, and bought the Mario merchandise such as toys, snacks, cereal, and Happy Meal toys. Whenever there's something Mario related, I have to buy it depending on both nostalgic reasons or growing up with the character.

Whatever it's the games, the shows or the products, the Super Mario series has been with me for decades and I will never stop playing the games with imaginative worlds, addicting game-play and just fun platforming with fun power-ups and going up and down warp pipes.

If you're a Mario fan, what made the Super Mario series special to you? What Mario game/Mario show/Mario movie do you love, hate, or defend? Which Mario spinoff should get more love, and do you want more 2D or 3D Mario game?

I grew up with plushies from Mario characters!

What make Mario special too me is how the games, mainline or spinoff, brim with their own personality, while at the same time all of them having this "Mario energy" in common. It's not simply a product with Mario characters slapped on, although at some point when I got older it did unfortunately started to feel like the franchise was heading in that direction.

I've watched the japanese movie, the live action one and the modern one and I like all of them!

Played New Super Mario Bros for the Nintendo DS as a kid, but the Mario game that actually hooked me and made me love the series was Super Mario World. In fact, it's one of the games that got me into retro gaming in general lol. It just gives a different vibe compared to the other entries. Music, graphics, gameplay, it's got it all, really.

i'm only into the 2d mario games, my favorites are mario bros wonder and the first new super mario bros, i really hope they make a wonder 2

Super Mario Bros 3 was my first introduction to video games as a whole. I still somehow remember watching my parents play it despite only being like 2 at the time. Literally a formulative memory for me.

Like a lot of people, Super Mario 64 was also my first interaction with 3D in games. I remember the first couple days I played it just running around the castle, being blown away by the 3D.

I'm a "Super" Mario fan (get it?), but I'm not THIS Super. Anyway, many Super Mario games are special to me, especially the NES classics. Super Mario Bros 1 and was great, but 3 though was the starting point for me, takes all the great things to the next level. Even now, it still was one of the greatest platformers ever created

Other than that though, Donkey Kong for the Gameboy are such a wonderful game. A love letter to the original and a great way to show what the Gameboy is capable of. And then there's of course Super Mario Land, which is just a must play for the Gameboy

Donkey Kong GB is such a gem. My family all thought it was just a port until we brought it home and played it. Such a fun twist.

I know right? It was such a clever twist

Other than 2D ones though, I have to give a really big shout to Super Mario 64 DS. It's one of the first 3D Mario games that I've played and I'm just so amazed by the graphics alone, especially when running around the Bomb Omb Battlefield, it's just so Magical!

And then there's Super Mario Galaxy, which is out of this world! (Get it? ::peek…nevermind) They really mean it when it says GALAXY on the title because these Galaxy series was just so unique, universal even. They've managed to do a platformer on outer space, and most importantly…it's fun! The levels are fantastic, the enemies are unique, the bosses and of course…the soundtrack, like TU TU TU TUTU TUUU! It feels so good hearing the title screen theme alone (especially Galaxy 2), take a listen

I have to mention Super Mario RPG too

Kid me didn't really get or have enough patience for RPGs, but I stuck with Seven Stars because I liked Mario so much, and it opened me up to RPGs. I may have never taken to the genre without this game.

I've been told I play Mario Kart like an asshole but I don't know how else I'm supposed to play it ?
(Shout out to Moonview Highway for kicking ass in 4K!)

This game is heavy on the dialogue but I really enjoy it. But one of the favorite Mario games is Super Mario World on the SNES. That game will never get old.

Oh I love this one, when Square was creating games for Nintendo. I'll also mentioned another great RPG that I've actually enjoyed, that is Mario and Luigi. Since the original on the GBA, that series is still going strong despite some setbacks

The first one was and still is great, but the ones on the NDS? Straight up masterpiece. Solid design, great gameplay…and soundtracks. Nintendo just knew how to cook with their composers!

Oh heck yeah, the Mario and Luigi games are killer too! The battle theme from the GBA original still randomly pops in my head to this day.

I'll go ahead and complete the trifecta with Paper Mario, particularly the N64 original:

This was the first game I remember being old enough to follow and be excited for the release of, and the first time I ever "binged" a game to completion in just a few days. TTYD is great too, but the original has a special place in my heart.

Ah Paper Mario, such a classic. I've always been a fan of the charming looks. It's such a great concept with such a great setting, it has so much potential

My favourite would be the Super Paper Mario. It's not mostly RPG of course, but it has so many different ideas for the power ups, enemies and many cast of characters. Another brilliant Wii masterpiece

Well, the first Mario game I knew was the one on a Game & Watch, in the mid-eighties.

Then I played Mario Bros in the bar near my house, the one with fixed (not scrolling) stages;

and a few years later Super Mario Land on the good old dmg001.

Yeah, I experienced Mario's birth, physical growth and emotional development up to his specialization as a plumber and his marriage to Peach (unfortunately ended badly, alas). ?

I'm coming late into the party but I've experienced quite a lot from the franchise. I also see how SMB was revolutionary for the 80's in term of physics and momentum.

I think I'm a huge fan of the handheld entries, especially the first Mario Land and NSMB.

Played New Super Mario Bros for the Nintendo DS as a kid.
While I understand the sentiment about NSMB nowadays I feel that the first one was the most creative of the bunch and I'll always remember the beta from the E3 and what it could've been.

Yeah, I understand, they reused the same formula for like almost 20 years after NSMB first released and it got a bit stale. Glad they changed up with Wonder.

It definitely got old real quick, especially when the NSMB Wii released. They didn't change a lot, other than giving them a prettier look and some new power ups

Wonder is goated though

Yup. I actually haven't had the time to play Wonder yet, but it's definitely on my list of games to play once I finish some unfinished games.

I too haven't played it lmao, but watching the clips of the game alone made me interested in it

Haha, I haven't watched any clip yet to not spoil myself anything. The only things I know is that Mario turns into an elephant and tubes move for some reason lmao
