I actually just tried the original on PC 88 and this is such an improvement. The original ran way too fast but the music was drunk and the physics were definitely off. And the levels didn't scroll. I forget what they call it but the screen switches when Mario reaches the edge.

Nintendo's like we want you to make us a Mario game. And then Hudson soft is like but we make dynablaster. And then Nintendo's like shut up we want a Mario game anyway.

Play the original and then play this one. The difference is amazing!

I wish the “35th Anniversary Edition” had used this graphic style, too. That hack is one of the best ever but the game lost some of its charm.
