Steam with record $11.1B gross revenue in 2026 where old games account for 79%

Independent analytics firm Alinea Analytics estimates the platform generated $11.1 billion in gross revenue during the first half of 2026 – the strongest six-month stretch in Steam’s history.

With 79% of that Steam revenue coming from games released before 2026.

well some of that is due to the fact that the sum total of all games on steam ever is obviously greater that of one year but the truth of the matter is gaming is not doing well right now aside from the ram shortage making gaming way more expensive then it should be across the board all of the big three have made several huge blunders sony with the push to end physical and go solely
digital nintendo with egregious overpricing for virtually anything switch 2 and a lack of games and microsoft shutting down studios left and right having virtually no exclusives and being by far the most expensive console maker people across the board are unhappy with the present state of things and when you are unhappy with the present you start rooting around in the past im happy to see resident evil requiem doing so well though its truly amazing and one of the best resi games ever imo

It warms my cockles to see Steam succeed. They're one of the few big companies I don't hate. I typed but then deleted a long-winded rant about how much I hate the "modern audience" and Steam has earned my respect for not bending their knee to them. Steam is great until Gabe leaves it. Then I fear his successors will eventually make Valve a public company and shareholder pressure will force Valve to impose a subscription fee. I hope I'm wrong but history has shown how powerful greed can be...
