Star Fox is back!

My only hope for this new StarFox is that after Lylat wars, I would like them too actually move forward with the series.
They have already "moved forward" two/three times in the franchise with Starfox Adventure, Starfox Assault and the now uncancelled SNES Starfox 2.

Unless you're talking about doing a sequel based on the remake of Lylat Wars like Crash 4 It's About Time?

designs are gonna take a while to get use to... esp compared to the Mario Gaxlay movie and Zero's designs.
I'd take those designs over Command's all day (yes, even if it's supposed to be a lower budget handheld title and usually those have a cartoony design to look better on smaller screens).

I don't know if it may be a hot take but Zero's designs are not great either because they took the N64 proportions but with realistic fur which creates a dissonant look whereas this new game got both realistic fur but realistic proportions.

When I really think about it, not really.::thinking They could have put more effort into it. More attractive graphics aren't everything.::cirnoshrug

I agree with that point but people complained about them not making realistic graphics nor higher graphical fidelity...

Star Fox was a sort of tech demo as well (and its sequel for a N64 game from 1997 it looked pretty).

Well, I don't know that much about this game and I wouldn't say I would play it. But somehow the remake or whatever it's supposed to be, I is missing that certain something.

GAME THEORY!
The StarFox crew died and they cursed to repeat Lylat Wars in the Purgatory

I've kind of fallen into a Star Fox quicksand pit leading up to this new game. Started with me wanting to play Star Fox 2 since I never did, but now I've played most of the series. Some new to me, some replayed.

In a bit less than a month, I've played:
Star Fox 2 (first time)
Star Fox 64 3D
Star Fox Command (first time, got two endings)
Star Fox Assault
Star Fox 64
and the ever dreaded...
Star Fox Zero (first time)

I must either be a sucker, or a savant. Either way, I definitely feel like I fully understand the series now. I've always loved it, but now I REALLY love it.
I definitely still feel the same way that I have for many years though, in that Assault is absolutely my favorite one, no new experience here changed that.

I will say, if you've avoided Zero, you shouldn't. I wouldn't say is a perfect game, but it's deeply interesting, and one of the final full-send gimmick titles Nintendo released before the more focused, less crazy switch years. (don't mean that as a dig) There's some parts of that game that are deliciously difficult, and the control scheme is really interesting when you meet it on it's level. Just don't go into it expecting it to be what you want it to be, it wants to be different, it's interesting.

Anyways, I'm hitting publish on this, then immediately getting up, walking to my GameCube, and putting Star Fox Adventures in. There's still more "bad" Star Fox games for me to play.

Is Zero hard to emulate via CEMU? Being forced to use the tablet is why I have a hard time starting it. Same with Command and its touch control system.

I don't know if Adventure is "bad" but a Zelda-like isn't what I was thinking about Starfox, in fact Jet Force Gemini from Rareware, the same devs behind Dinosaur Planet, would have made more sense as an on-foot game.

I'd always defend SNES Starfox even if it doesn't run at a smooth framerate because it's literally a 3D video game on a 2D machine before 32-bits consoles were commonplace.

PS: Is there a romhack or way to run in a smoother framerate without having to make it faster?

As far as I know, the experience on emulation is better for those who hate the original control scheme. I watched a Nerrell video about it. Personally I played on original hardware, so I couldn't tell you how it works or how playable it is without the gamepad.

I can see this feeling awful on emulation, but I genuinely think it feels pretty good to play on hardware. Plus the strategy sections are a lot better than SF2. I really enjoyed that game, regardless of the bone-headed plot.

I have a high tolerance for not great games, and so far I'd call it straight up bad. Who knows though, maybe I'll change my opinion when I get deeper in. Since it's an adventure game, I know I haven't seen all the mechanics yet. (honestly I don't really like Rare very much, so I might be biased. gonna keep my mind a little more open with my second session)

OG Star Fox is great! I just paused a playthrough so I could go get some brunch, and I'm gonna come back and finish it. So much better than you'd think when you first try it.
There is a patch, however I see it as mostly a novelty. It makes the game like 5x harder since everything is paced faster alongside the framerate. I could barely clear the second mission on level 1, and I've played this game a half dozen times through...
Definitely give it a go though, it's incredibly interesting seeing it run at 60fps.

I'll try doing it on CEMU soon then. I could somehow stand the touch control on the virtual gamepad window.

There's a romhack to play Command with the d-pad at least but this is the same issue with Kid Icarus Uprising via emulation.

I'm surprised to see someone not fan of Rare but I see what you mean. I personally prefer Goldeneye and Perfect Dark above anything else from them (maybe except Jet Force Gemini).

At that point I'd see a Unity recreation of the game or a recompilation being made to play it in 60 FPS and widescreen.
