Are there spin-offs from games you like that you also thoroughly enjoy?

In my case, I really enjoy a puzzle game spun-off from Shovel Knight, Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon. It's a matching puzzle game with tons of content and charm, not to mention mod support (on PC).

I wish Fighting Games got spinoffs into other genre's more often, despite the shaky track record. Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks is my favorite MK from the 3D era, and playing as Paul and Law in Urban Reign is great fun.

Do fangames count? I enjoy Doom The Rougelike a great deal.

All the Pokémon spin offs are top tier, I don't know why but they are!
Conquest
Mystery Dungeon
All the Ranger games
Hell, even Pokepark
For some reason, the spin offs see the true potential of Pokémon more than Gamefreak does!
I loved the Pokepark games on the Wii. They need to bring those back.

Only played one of these but Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime for the DS was such fun. Just great tank battling gameplay and the typical Dragon Quest charm easily makes this one of my favourite titles on the DS. Really want to try the 3DS sequel at some point, heard that is meant to be great as well.

Technically, Mega Man & Bass is a spin-off, even if it's treated like a mainline entry sometimes.
sometimes spin-offs are canon. i think xtreme 1 and 2 are canon, and the first one is basically the matrix or something, from what i recall reading about.

I realize now that I made a mistake, this should have been in Gaming General Discussion, so @Waffles can move it there is need.

Ah! That reminded me of Dragon Quest Monsters series! ?

I'll dare saying that Dragon Quest Builder is as good as mainline.

SRW Alpha Gaiden, better than the main game, also because it is the only one of the series translated into english by fans.
