For those who don't know, SpaceHey is what would happen if MySpace was launched today... And it's actually super neat, combining those old web vibes with features and "QoL" improvements that makes it less of a nightmare to navigate for the modern user (hell, they even have their own mobile app!).

That said, I have found it to be VERY rough around the edges on some areas, and also to be lacking some sort of "bridge" between yourself and all other users -- blogs and bulletins work well enough, but it's hard for me to find content not made by myself and the forums are as basic as could be (I don't think you can even quote anyone, which... Uhhhh...). They also seem pretty dead, despite the sheer amount of topics posted in there in the last five years.

It's interesting to me that the site's "infested" with teenagers, which I just don't know what to think about... It's great that younger folk are enamoured of the idea, but you'd think that a MySpace clone would attract a different crowd (not that I'm complaining, mind you).

It's a fan project, though, so I can totally believe it can get better and live up to its enormous potential, given enough time and resources.

What about you? Are you an user? Have eyed it but never joined? Or is this your first time hearing about it? Whatever the case, please feel free to discuss it below.

Cheers ✌️❗

I never actually used MySpace before, let alone having an account on it. All I knew at the time was that it was a great alternative for teens to hangout in. I faintly remember how each user page was customised and had music in it. Though if space hey does come into being, might as well try it.

They have all of that already, yes (I even tried a pretty kickass Windows XP profile layout that someone made).

If you ever join, do feel free to let me know. I made a test account with a BS, book-inspired name to try it out.

Loved Myspace. Had an account and was a local musician, so it was nice. Also really liked how it let you fully customize your page. Taught me basic HTML too, which is cool. Saw many many eye-searing profiles and lots of glitter, so I guess that may have contributed to people favoring the soulless data-mining operation known as Facebook.

But yeah, I can't join. -_________-

Never heard of Spacehey before, but it isn't surprising giving the gargantuan amount of websites that exist.

I had a MySpace account back in the day. That was where I first learned to dabble in HTML & CSS code to customize my profile.

looking back though, I can imagine the kind of nightmare that was for Tom on the back-end giving thousands of teenagers unfettered access to source code.

It might be a nice change of pace over the current crap we're all subjected to, though. Like Facebook, TikTok, X, Instagram, etc.

I'm at least willing to look into it. Never hurts to try, right?

A VPN is your friend...

I've just made an acocunt there myself, thanks for bringing my attention to this as you've just took me back to being 17 again in college on MySpace on the library computers...

THIS is how social media should have stayed if you ask me...

I got an account there pretty early on, but completely forgot about it. I think I got a couple people I know to join up, but they weren't regularly using it, so I fell off too.

I'm honestly really annoyed by this -- what can possibly be so bad about SH to get it blocked? Ugh! But yeah, VPNs for life ✌️❗
It's a state law that social media now requires age verification so kids can't join until they are 14 and have parental consent. If it has pitfalls like me not being able to join a Myspace reboot, I still think the law's heart is in the right place and support it. Pr0nhub has the same requirement here, lol.

I have a Wireguard instance running on an Oracle free-tier VM, but guess where it's hosted. Another state with the same laws, lmao. OK Universe, I get it, jeez.

I'd never heard about this before. After a cursory glance, it looks good, but also like it's still not there yet. I feel like I'd be using it while still wishing it was just MySpace, which isn't great. Still, it's better than nothing. I imagine there is some sort of copyright protection against making a genuine MySpace clone (even if one made their own improvements to it), but maybe one day

I get it, I really do. It just sucks that you were caught in the middle, so to speak.

Anyway... If any of you joins, feel free to DM your details and I'll add you ✌️❗

Maybe a VPN works?

Never heard of this. Also never used MySpace

I'm currently undecided whether them letting you delete your own forum threads is a good thing or not.

On the one hand, it sucks for preservation.

On the other, wiping out anything off social media is always a plus if you are truly done with it.

I found my info and logged in, first time in four years and it says I joined 5 years ago. I really remember it being super early on, but all the people I had friended haven't logged in for years either. Still, I like the idea of it.

oh wow never thought someone will talk about it, but in fact i even forgot space hey existed lol, what i remember i have two account, i made the second account because i lost my password to the main account but every once in a while i actually do log in but the problem is that you can't do much there and everyone is rather quiet than wanting to chat with you, when you do chat with somone you'll see the messages for only a few days and disappear even if no one blocked you or anything. i always wanted to have a my space account but growing up in early 2010s just didn't do it, spacehey does fill the void tho!

That's actually very true: for a place self-labelling as "for friends", people aren't going out of their way to be friendly... Or maybe there's just too many to focus on any.

they just add you and that's it, it's the reason why i don't use it often

Yeah, pretty much.

I have only had the account for a couple of days, though -- maybe it gets better later on. At least I'm having a nice DM chat with someone I added on a whim.
