If you're playing through Steam, you can set Steam to offline mode. (Steam menu > Go Offline)

You can also just disconnect from the internet in Linux by clicking on the wifi/ethernet icon in the system tray.

For the two options above, I think you can reconnect after the internet check at the main menu is done.

There's also another way described here involving some terminal commands. I tried this in the past but I couldn't get it to work properly with Heroic. Heroic would constantly try to reconnect and then take my internet down after a few tries.
This askubuntu kind of confusing What terminal I need to type

The Linux terminal. You should be able to find it in the start menu.
But like I said, I couldn't get it to work right so I can't really help much there.

jam a screwdriver in your rj45 port and/or use a faraday cage

I freaking love this game so much.

Dark Souls 2 is actually my favorite followed by Elden Ring.

Also I like the sound effect of secret doors opening, very much so.

i feel like ds2 and elden ring have some really interesting similarities and it feels particularly dreamy walking through the both of them compared to the other games in the series

Despite the rep, gotta admit I actually loved this one by the end. Unsure if it's just cus of the stockholm syndrome of having platinumed the game on PS4.
Game design may have been bad at times but the story won over me.

I've seen people call Elden Ring Dark Souls 2 2

Bear... Seek... Seek... Lest...

But honestly ds2 feels unique compared to the rest of the series, despite having troubled dev cycle. There are also cool details that dont show up anywhere else.

Idk about that. To me Elden felt like just ds3, but open world and the lore feels... off

I absolutely love Scholar of the First Sin!
I never understood why DS2 has a bad rep, except that rolling kind of sucks until you get your Agility to 99 or 100. Then it plays fine. Of course, in classic Dark Souls fashion this is not explained anywhere at all and you have to discuss it with other players directly or indirectly (ie look it up) to know this.

But I really love the story and lore bits in Dark Souls 2, and it has some of my favorite locations in the series.

Elden Ring lore doesn't interest me nearly as much, but it's still pretty captivating overall

Some creators on yt made videos hating on darksouls, and their fans, as loyal as they are, started hating on it too. In the vids dudes literally complained about mob spam, while agroin all the mobs in the entire fucking area and then trying to fight them all while backing themselves in the corner lmao

Here's a very in-depth guide for the SoTFS edition (sourced from the Dark Souls discord server)

i like it. hated soul memory though...

I could write you a very intricate essay as to why, but this isn't the place. So be happy you enjoy the game and don't try to understand why others don't like it.
