Hi guys, I was watching videos of the first soulcalibur having only played 4, 5 and 6 I wanted to try it, I understand (or at least I've heard somewhere) that the emulators Dreamcast emulators are a pain in the ass, any advice on which emulator or optimal configuration to play it? (It doesn't have to be 4k, just that it works and doesn't blow up the laptop)

I think either Flycast (standalone or via Retroarch) or Redream are both plenty capable of getting you up and running with Soul Calibur with no real difficulty, Dreamcast emulation is a lot more straightforward than it used to be.

It's also a great game! When it first came out, I remember borrowing it from a neighbor and remarking to friends that "graphics are done", I genuinely didn't believe that games could ever look better. Also Namco fighters had so many fun singleplayer options back for a fighting game, even on your own there's a lot to do there.

You'd need to define 'pain in the ass' haha. I remember the state of Dreamcast emulation circa 2007 before NullDC came about and that really was a hellscape. These days Flycast plays pretty much everything and it's user-friendly too. If you want to get into emulating arcade machines that SEGA put out at the time and flycast doesn't play nice then you might want to look into Demul. It hasn't been updated in years and can be resource-intensive but it will do the job.

Soulcalibur 1 on the Dreamcast was such a legendary release. That was the game that sold me on getting the system. I couldn't believe how good it looked and how much of a glow up it got compared to the original arcade. I think it was also the first time a console port of an arcade game looked better than the original and marked the beginning of the end when arcade games had an advantage over consoles when it came to graphics.

Definitely Redream. I dont think there is a better emu for DC (yet)

As others have said, if this was the early 2010's you'd have difficulty, but these days flycast is plug and play or close enough, your biggest problem is finding stuff to play in some niche genre's (looking at you jrpg's).

I just tested it with my potato mini pc, runs smooth. And that boy has only a AMD Vega 10. I could even use 960p

Flycast v2.4 @ 1.19.1 Retroarch.
AF x4
Mipmapping on
Alpha Sorting Per-pixel
1280x960 resolution

Everthing else on default

Utilizo este emulador para jugar juegos de Sega Dreamcast.

Obtuve los archivos de BIOS aquí, necesarios para el emulador. @ https://github.com/DC-SWAT/DreamShell/releases/tag/v4.0.1.Release
DreamShell_v4.0.1_Release.zip\DS\firmware\bios\sega\

"vmu_save_A1.bin" @ https://segaretro.org/VMU_Explorer
El archivo guardado de VMU se encuentra en la carpeta denominada datos.

Coincidentally I've played Soulcalibur yesterday and tested in RetroArch, Redream and Flycast, use Redream if is just to play the performance is awesome. Flycast standalone for more performance and resources for free, you could see the VMU image of the game too I like this option
