Sony CEO admit PS5 is a box with no content

The last good home console was the ps3 and nothing will convince me otherwise.
PS4 is better. At least a dual shock 4 can last more than a decade without melting in on itself. The moment you use a dual shock 3, it has a ten year lifespan. which is why many people get aftermarket or third party controllers for the console. They tend to be cheaper and more reliable.

The only advantage PS3 has over PS4 is backwards compatibility, but that's only if you have the original fat models.

Also Switch and Switch exists. I don't care if you're a nintendo fan or not. They're really the only ones winning at this point.

I still have a few dual shock 3's kicking around. They worked the last time I used them a couple of years ago.

Ps3 had free online. Ps4 did not. That's a massive downgrade and was one of the big things that the ps3 had over the 360 at the time.

The Switch is a phone with controllers attached and a fancy HDMI dock.

Then consider yourself one of the lucky ones. Still doesn't change the fact most of them die within a decade the moment you take them out of the plastic.

True, but I didn't own one and I barely went online for my 360. Not gonna matter much whenever the severs for PS3 goes down. Though considering how long they're still on, I hope they stay on for a even longer time. PS4 I did go online a bit more often, but that stopped by 2022, and the even bigger price increase, and Sony justifying it, because MS did it. BTW, the only reason PS3 online was even free, because the console costed so much at the time, and Sony was on the back foot. The moment MS fucked up with the XONE, they were more than happy to start charging online or lie about what they would not do.

The Switch is a phone with controllers attached and a fancy HDMI dock.
Yet it sold great and has an awesome library of 1st party games, indie games, and third party games. I mainly bought the Switch for mostly third party and indie. It got way more usage than the XONE I bought off of my older brother. Dislike it all you want, but down play the accomplishments. Not a good look, and makes the person saying that shit look immature, and is nothing more than the Gamecube and duct-tape memes of the Wii.

Sounds like your upset, because it didn't fail or that Nintendo is kicking both companies asses, and they don't have to do much. Nintendo remembers they're an actual game company and make the best games they usually can. I may not be interested in many Nintendo 1st party games, but they've been in business far longer than Sony and MS, and know what to to do and how to do it. I have my issues with them, but they actually deliver on the games without constantly laying people off, nor rely on GenAI to do the work for them.

EDIT: I have my own issues with Nintendo, so I am not glazing them and they have their own screw ups and bullshit I am more than happy to call them out on.

I mean I think the last two generations of home consoles are basically pcs with locked down firmware so my comment about a phone with controllers attached wasn't really the insult you think it is. I do like 90% of my gaming on my phone these days and the rest on my laptop. Between emulators, including the switch, ports of PC and console games my phone's probably a more capable game console than the switch is.

To be honest I would have bought a switch, I was planning on it, but it came out around the time, or shortly after Nintendo decided to go after AM2R because it's a better remake than their own shitty 3ds remake and I decided I wasn't going to spend money on Nintendo products ever again, so I haven't.

so we got really good hardware on PS side but no games
or a LOT of exclusive games on the Nintendo but shitty hardware
or you get an XBOX which is silly when you can just get a PC for exactly the same games
only the gamers lose this generation lol

I have a PS5 and I put A LOT of use on it, but none of the games i play are really exclusive,
(outside gran turismo 7 or Astro Bot anyways)
so it's correct to say they have no (FIRST PARTY) games because there's plenty of games on PS5 (which includes the entire PS4 library)
or else i wouldn't have more than 1000 games in my library right now (mostly PS4 games)

I also have a more recently purchased PC and i'll 100% say with a good enough PC you need NOTHING else....
...well except a Switch 2 because nintendo says fuck PC releases lol.

Works for you, but I don't game on my phone at all. It's mainly my PS5/PS4, Switch, Wii or GC , Laptop (small games or indie games only), and my RG35XXH. Sometimes my 360 when I am in the mood.

Nintendo decided to go after AM2R because it's a better remake than their own shitty 3ds remake and I decided I wasn't going to spend money on Nintendo products ever again, so I haven't.
I am not defending what they did, but that didn't stop me from getting a Switch. Especially when there was no reason for me to keep my WiiU. I traded it in during 2018 for a Switch at my local GameStop. Because of my membership and trade in bonus they were doing at the time, I only had to pay $150 for it.

Honestly, I will get the Switch 2 used and refurbished, because most of the games I have would not benefit from the upgrade. Only Bayonetta 3, and I am not exactly popping it in any time soon.

And it's fine, we don't need glorified PCs to the point they are selling Pro versions because they cannot upgrade the hardware physically.

At that point aiming for power just ends up having badly optimised games because limitation brought creation.

AM2R was a great fan made remake but was also technically piracy and the author still asked to buy Metroid II on the Virtual Console (which I did). Yeah it's not nice but at least the guy finished his game before publicly showing it (unlike most Unreal Engine OoT showcases that are merely tech demos).

On the other hand the 3DS remake was good thanks to MercuryStream and this is YMMV territory to say that it's a bad one (when the original one was rough on the edges objectively speaking). You can dislike some of its gimmicks but it's nowhere near "shitty" functionally.

Microsoft and Sony also kept several games outside of PC (and some of the PC ports were shoddy too).

They admit that but not admit allot of their decisions are stupid and they got shit for brain. Like shutting down the best stupid or forcing people playing games before a 30 days time period and the license is revoked.

Honestly the lack of first party games are the least of their worries honestly all their brain dead decisions are 100 times worse.

I often forget that the PS5 came out in 2020 yet I always feel like the console's true release was circa 2022-2023 considering the games on it...

I forgot how the games looked like but launch and early PS5 releases weren't that different looking from late PS4/PS4 Pro games.

I can say with ABSOLUTE AUTHORITY that the PS2 was the best,
and the LAST good thing Sony has ever made. Don't like it?
PROVE ME WRONG!!!

While the PS2 was their biggest commercial success I still think that the PSP was a good console despite some of its flaws so I cannot consider the former to be the last good thing Sony has ever made.

PS4 was PS2 times 2! The true return of Japanese gaming, and so many 3rd party and 1st party titles for days. It was also a huge comeback for niche games and indie games were making strides everywhere. It was never going to be an exact replica, but I pretty much gamed more on my PS4 than PS2 at this point.

Fair enough statement I guess my friend, but really how do we quantify "best"?
Sales? PS2 has the 4 beat buy almost 50 million units. Graphics? That would hardly
be a fair comparison. Maybe someday the sales of the 4 may eclipse the 2, but the 5
will NEVER. The best thing I hear about the PS5 is the people getting scammed and buying a box of rocks instead of the PS5. What's the difference I say!!!

You know what brother, I just changed my mind, F**K the Playstation. The REALLY BEST and last great
thing Sony made was my 5 cd carousel disc changer, circa 1991ish.

Boils down the personal preference.

There are still more people with PS4s than 5s at this point. Still sad but Sony and AI companies brought it on themselves. Covid was a thing of course, but that excuse ran dry after 2023.

Sony will be fine and the PS5 will turn out gold like everything (almost) else Sony touches.
They just really F**ked thing up with the PS5 at launch, then all the BS with the pro and non
pro PS5 and a few others. It really reminded me of Sega launching a console (and it pains me
to say that)

It will definitely turn out less brilliant, setting a clearly downward trend. Less people are buying the PS5, their games are taking much longer and selling worse, ...

It's Sony, I don't understand the problem, in 100 years there will be
the PS105. So I wouldn't worry too much. They ain't going nowhere.
But It is sad to see the Playstation get it's lunch totally eaten at every chance
by the doorstop they call the switch.

The last Nintendo console I actually owned, well still own, is a GameCube. I never really liked the Wii. I played through Metroid Prime 3 on my cousin's Wii but that was about it. I've never played a WiiU at all. I haven't even really found any Wii games I've been interested in emulating. I found the DS kind of gimmicky and hated the touchscreen stuff. I never had one but that was another one my cousin had so I did get to play on one a bunch. There are a bunch of DS and 3DS games I emulate though. Actually, I find emulating DS games on my phone to be better than the real thing because the touchscreen works better.
And it's fine, we don't need glorified PCs to the point they are selling Pro versions because they cannot upgrade the hardware physically.
I also think ps5 and whatever the newest Xbox is called are also stupid. I don't really have a problem with the switch as a game system other than it being somewhat pointless when it can be emulated on devices of a similar size.

I always find it a bit odd to see people argue anything in favour of Nintendo's actions against piracy on a website that has had to change its name and hide any reference to Nintendo in the repo due to the site owner receiving legal notices from them.

Yes. I greatly dislike the action game gimmicks they keep trying to shove into Metroid and do find them to be a shitty experience. I play Metroid to explore dangerous alien planets with lasers and missiles. Not so I can kung fu fight aliens with quick time events. AM2R remembered how to be a Metroid game. Something pretty much none of the official Metroid games released since Zero Mission have managed to do.

The Wii has its problems, but it's a great console overall. One of the advantages it has over the GC, backwards compatibility aside, is a much richer amount of 3rd party titles, and a lot of them pretty diverse when stop and look at a lot of the non-shovelware titles.. Not from the lack of trying, but the late stages of GC, many third party companies dropped console. Compared to the Wii, where many developers and publishers actually tried at the time, and got many unique games on the console. The Wii doubles as a rail shooter paradise. A major part of why I love the games on the console so much.

I found the DS kind of gimmicky and hated the touchscreen stuff.
When I got the DS in 2007, I never bothered with games that relied solely on touch controls. A lot of the early games suffers from this gimmick. By 2009/2010, the gimmick wore out its welcome, and whatever touch screen features from most 3rd party games, were all mainly menu based and have traditional control set ups.

Really I think the biggest issue with the PS5 and this current console generation as a whole is the lack of good exclusives and first-party titles to justify buying a console.

Nintendo is the only one who keeps their first-party titles exclusive to their own platform. I don't think people were buying the switch based off the hardware alone. It can barely run most third-party titles without major compromises, but the exclusive games make it more than worth it for a lot of people.

Most of these new consoles just don't have any killer apps driving sales and if they ever do get one, chances are if you just wait a year it'll get ported the other consoles or PC, assuming the game isn't already announced as a timed exclusive.

And their killer apps unfortunately have been niche. Pokopia sold pretty well and sold also some Switch 2s, but it's a cozy Pokemon game. Doesn't have broad appeal.

Also people are getting harder to please. The more prices go up, the more most people will demand of their purchases. In the past one or two exclusives may have been enough to make many pull the trigger on a console. Now people look at the lineup of games and the potential of the console, because it's an increasingly bigger investment. They're probably more cautious. It's no longer an impulse buy for most.

I don't think Nintendo wants PC players as their clients. Nintendo fans are almost captive to their platform and franchises like Pokemon.
