Hey! Love Sonic Adventure? There's an indie game coming soon that captures that essence perfectly.

Tricky has a website too!
Will it have annoying fishing sessions?

Jokes aside they've nailed the early Dream Cast style but I hope that they've also nailed the momentum and level design with some branching pathways and perhaps upgrades.

Sonic SatAM intro is like the bombing mission in Final Fantasy VII's intro.

Both share a lot of the same themes in terms of setting and story.

Heavily technologised antagonist with a group of resistant is a common theme, we can even go back with Star Wars if not even earlier. I also noticed this with Avatar TLA to a lesser extent.

I need to watch SatAM at least once out of curiosity (and because there are like 26 episodes within two seasons) but I've yet to watch the second season of Sonic X...

I firmly believe that Disney has not only ripped off Nadia with Atlantis but FF7 as well with their interpretation of John Silver with his cybernetic arm

But I digress, I think that Archie's version of Sonic is interesting and I really think it's too bad that they are adamantly against including any references in their games (although Blaze could've played a similar role in Forces if they did more efforts about the game).

Sorry I had trouble finding it on google
No problem! It's just that I'm not a big fan of the aeshetic of the Remake and I feel that the PS1 version of those areas are closer to the Dreamcast.

Speaking of which I'll repost those Saturn era concept art for the game

And how someone tries to bring it back into the game
As well as a neat remix of Windy Valley

it started development as an rpg too

While I knew that its proto name was "Sonic RPG" but I don't think they planned it as a turn based RPG.

Maybe the "Roleplaying" part was because of the adventure fields and upgrades.

While 2006 and Unleashed have hub areas I always felt like SA1's adventure fields felt more "living" and interesting to navigate in.

Very true, adding rpg elements was just kinda the craze (GTA San Andreas and Mega Man X both featured them despite not being the main genre)

And also, the initial devs of Sonic Team came from Phantasy Star, so a little muscle memory and modus operandi likely persisted throughout the games’ history.

On rare occasions, Sonic Team also does enjoy being intentionally a little misleading, as evident by this one April fools post.

Also true on SA1 and Unleashed, their hubs were funnily enough, my favorite part so I’m always baffled some folks celebrated SA2 for removing those.

I can add Powerslave/Exhumed and Turok 2 as well as Shenmue.

I often forget that but yeah, it's their style. This explains why PSO was made by The Sonic Team.

This could be unironically an April's Fool game like the Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Oddly enough I prefer the more straightforward Wii/PS2 hubs with the tablets to access to the next level but it's because the game has like 7 different hub areas which is maybe a bit too many (and how you have to go to Pr. Pickle's lab just to be able to advance the plot). Sonic 2006's hub was unfinished and I think the forest area is too big for its own good. Sometimes a small area is for the best.

I've read that SA2 was supposed to be a "back to the more arcade roots" of the franchise with a score/rank system (pulled from Nights) and a more straightforward approach to its levels with 0 cutoff with the Adventure Fields. I think the title Adventure was mostly because they're taking the same engine rather than being an "adventure" game.

I'm fine with hub less Sonic games even if it could be a small plus.

You know what I'd want the most? A real Sonic 2 Director's Cut with the actual design documents from the Sonic Team:

Finished Sonic Mania with the mobile phone port!

It's too bad that you need a Netflix subscription just so you could play it (I would've bought it for ~5-10) but it's a fairly solid port.

Mania needed a 3DS port (if Rayman Origins had one then why not that one as well?) and perhaps a Vita one as well.

I know it's not purely Sonic related but is there a way to play Freedom Planet and Spark the Electric Jester on mobile as well?

Used to watch the cartoons with my youngins. Never played the games. I enjoyed the movies very much.

I don't know how to feel about Sonic Prime but I need to check it.

Yet I still have to watch the second (third) season of Sonic X...

And I also have to watch the second season of Boom someday.

You should absolutely watch season 3 of Sonic X - it's amazing! Just make sure to watch the sub!

Knuckles is my favorite character and Sonic 2 is my favorite of the series. I got the plat on Sonic Origins last December and it just felt like such a 90’s Christmas, it really brought me back and I had the best nostalgic bubble around me.
