And what if it simply has proven that the "Adventure style" was not that good to begin with? I mean to be honest the Boost gameplay style follows the philosophy of speed much better than a simple platformer with Sonic in it. Or else you'd rather play Crash Bandicoot which had better controls on an objectively less powerful hardware.
The Adventure style is a relic of the past.
I'd rather have Sega stick on boost since it's the gameplay with the most decent Modern 3D Sonic games.
Chao Garden can be a mobile app but the V-pet trend is over for decades already.
I'd even say that Sega should probably stop developing games and become a record label that produces music at that point and let indie devs handle their legacy IPs.
As for Sonic yeah, more stuff like Mania Adventure and Colours' short series would be good for the franchise.
I find the Kirby and DK fanbases more positive as well.
Eh, it's not because X is less worse than Y that X is good. That's a weak argument to justify mediocre and lesser evils in my opinion.
i think the adventure style would work more if it was just one campaign that jumped between characters depending on what was going on in the story. having the player go through multiple campaigns and then a final one would leave the player worn out and not interested in playing the game for a while.
adventure 2, heroes and shdaow the hedgehog were the last recent sonic games that i played, so i can't really comment on the boost engine games. i've seen reviews of some of the games and the only real criticism anyone had was that sega wasn't really trying to refine the engine. they have a good starting base for a game; but it comes off a bit like no one on the dev team or the higher ups want to linger too long on one thing.
they haven't done anything with the chaos since sonic adventure 2. and they make for a great way to encourage the player to keep playing after beating the main story with a replayable mechanic in raising different chaos with different looks and skills.
and if the virtual pet thing is over, then why are they still making new pokemon and digimon games?
the tv shows have been pretty well received. a lot of people like the writing in the sonic boom cartoon. it might be the best path forward for the series.
platforming is where the sonic games excel at.
that is everyone's favorite level type in adventure 2, the sonic and shadow levels. running and jumping.
most fandoms have more positive leaning fans than negative ones. but they exist in all of them. a guy on deviantart usually asks me to draw a female character from the sonic series, and i asked him one time to favorite one of the drawings that i made for him. he wouldn't. apparently some toxic mario weebs bullied the hell out of this guy. he won't favorite or comment on anything out of that fear.
that's why i brought up the thing about some fandoms being a bit more toxic than others. some very rarely have that kind of stuff happen, others are filled to the brim with it. it was
not, under any circumstances, "
a weak argument to justify mediocre and lesser evils" about the toxicity levels of a fandom. they can all be like that. but i would rather have people complain about something not reaching its full potential and just try to support something that they like with the hopes of it getting better, instead of blackmailing the dev team to get their way or sending death threats to other fans of that property for making a drawing.
