So long, gay Bowser! Doug Bowser is retiring.

I have a kind of theory that this new Nintendo hatred comes from younger people who haven’t realized that they’ve never been squeaky clean until recently, because much of it has been easier to spot as a consumer in recent years.

Not to be an old man yelling at clouds, but it seems like these people are also in the age demographic with people who are nostalgic for the ”gray logo” era, where everything they released were NSMB sequels or similar low-effort shlock, so it’s kind of hard to take seriously sometimes, because Nintendo between 2010-2017 made infinitely more dogshit software AND hardware compared to now. They hardly tried at all.
Yeah. And it's been happening for a really long time now, probably since the release of the GameCube (the first Nintendo console I didn't see nearly as celebrated as their others).

I think nothing hurt Nintendo more than SEGA dropping out of the competition entirely -- they were at their best when the home console market was fought tooth and nail, but then, very suddenly, their whole competition was Microsoft (a company that really didn't challenge them) and Sony (who had been pulling ahead for decades).

Stagnation is a cruel beast.

Yeah, I mean like I'm interested on gamedev just not on PR or being an exec, I'm sure they work a lot it's just the kind of work they do I don't like.
Fair enough, but is still takes talent to get them where they've gotten. ::cirnoshrug

He lived up to his last name. Worst guy to run Nintendo of America from a PR standpoint. I don't think anyone liked him.

Right, it's like a lot of the BS you see on social media.

Thirty years ago, half of the BS we see now. Ninety percent of the population wouldn't have even known about it unless they were in a very small niche circle of people or the nationwide news reported it. Like someone shooting up a church. When I was a teen, you never heard about them. They did happen, but because social media wasn't a prevalent monster like it is now, it didn't make the nationwide news. Local, yes, and maybe a few whispers here or there, but again, ninety percent of the nation didn't know about it.

And as for being squeaky clean? Ha! Nintendo used to have sex hotels in Japan.

They used to make nude pin-up playing cards because they started as a playing card company after all, in 1889.

And let's not forget, you may have bought a Switch 2, but you damn sure don't own it. Nintendo basically made you sign an EULA waiver when you powered the thing on, that if you modded it in any way, shape, or form, and they got a whiff of it, they could and would brick your system. And well, you're just SOL and JWL <Shit outta luck and Jolly well fucked> and will probably get sued by them as well. If I'm not wrong, that also falls into repairing it because, let's face it, they want all your money.

About the guy retiring, ya like a few people here said, I didn't and don't know the guy. He may be awesome, or he might be a pure prick. I don't know and honestly, I don't care. Because in the end, someone just the same or maybe worse will take his place. It just depends who can make the company the biggest profit in the end.
Yeah... Same here. Back in 80's 90's I rarely ever heard bad news and if I did, I usually figured it was under control. I was born in 84' and growing up, I never thought the future would ever end up with issues like today. Every generation has it's ups and downs, but now it feels more down than up. This is why I no longer expect. Also, my older brother collects a whole lot of Nintendo stuff himself and even though it wasn't pin-up (at least from what I remember), he had a deck of cards by Nintendo in a wooden box I believe. Even a poker set too. All the stuff I never knew what Nintendo was before the video game world came to life.

Nintendo has the mindset of previous decades, ignoring that most players nowadays are platform agnostic, more so than ever.
Hence their hard stance on emulation.
Eg I set a Switch emulator for my nephew to play on PC. For Nintendo that would be worse than exposing kids to violence and porn

awww dont worry, its fun being the old man yelling at clouds, i do it all the time... nintendo did messed up stuff since the beginning... but you may have a point on this being certain fan's first time noticing it... although there will clearly always be older fans who are way to attached to them as well, ive seen plenty of them lately...

Yeah I mean I don't judge either way. It's just video games, but it seems to be a lot more frequent lately (but I know this forum is linked to piracy so of course people are gonna be extra vocal about it here lol, I don't mind).
Nintendo Ninjas have been a running joke since forever and all that.

oh yeah, to each their own, have fun with what you want.. my brother's first console was the NES and mine was the Master System, then we switched and he bought the Genesis and I bought the SNES so we could share both..... people love nintendo, thats fine (well, to a point, obviously... dont be a jerk about it... and that goes for all of these companies).. like I said before, I dont think Bowser leaving will change much, but Im glad this seems to be making people happy here

Can't say I'll miss him. Nintendo has been going in a bad, BAD direction lately. All console makers have been but Nintendo might be trying for the title of "most evil."

was he born with that last name??

I forgot that he was CEO of Nintendo of America because I don't remember anything note worthy about him beside from the name being funny with the last name being Bowser and all, which is strange considering that Reggie was president a lot longer than Bowser was. Reggie was there since 2006 to 2019 then Bowser was there 2019 to 2025. I just felt nothing at this announcement.

"He will be succeeded by Devon Pritchard, a nearly a 20-year veteran of the video game industry and long-time Nintendo exec. Most recently, Pritchard served as executive vice president of revenue, marketing and consumer experience at Nintendo of America, overseeing many aspects of the Switch 2 launch this spring. Pritchard will also join the Nintendo of America board of directors and become an executive officer at Japan-based parent company Nintendo."
Does that mean we'll see an actual lowering of prices on Nintendo products or an increase?

surprised to see so much hatred for Doug Bowser here. Not to defend him or anything because I know barely anything about the guy, it's not like he drew much attention to himself.

genuine question, what did he do that didn't also occur under Reggie? It kinda seems more of a case of Nintendo in general doing things people didn't like and wanting to find a specific guy to pin it on.
