Yeah. And it's been happening for a really long time now, probably since the release of the GameCube (the first Nintendo console I didn't see nearly as celebrated as their others).I have a kind of theory that this new Nintendo hatred comes from younger people who haven’t realized that they’ve never been squeaky clean until recently, because much of it has been easier to spot as a consumer in recent years.
Not to be an old man yelling at clouds, but it seems like these people are also in the age demographic with people who are nostalgic for the ”gray logo” era, where everything they released were NSMB sequels or similar low-effort shlock, so it’s kind of hard to take seriously sometimes, because Nintendo between 2010-2017 made infinitely more dogshit software AND hardware compared to now. They hardly tried at all.
I think nothing hurt Nintendo more than SEGA dropping out of the competition entirely -- they were at their best when the home console market was fought tooth and nail, but then, very suddenly, their whole competition was Microsoft (a company that really didn't challenge them) and Sony (who had been pulling ahead for decades).
Stagnation is a cruel beast.
