Movies So is the MCU still something you care about? Assuming you ever did that is.

I’m still watching the MCU, but on Disney+ with all those TV series and movies

The MCU.... Meh... the only MCU movie i've actually seen and cared about was Iron Man 1. Hulk looked silly, Thor, not sure. Aquaman Meh... Iron Man 2, not interested in him being an asshole and making stupid decisions...

Nah, don't care about the MCU.

I never really cared for it as a whole, I just watch the movies of the characters I'm invested in, plus the avengers' films

The early 2000 X-Men movies aren't exactly good but I really enjoy them, not into MCU much but I'll be mad if they mess this up.
I only follow MCU until Iron Man 2 and I only watched Doctor Strange because The King, Bruce Campbell, is in it.
The 1st one wasn't too bad, I quite liked the 2nd one (which still has one of the best superhero action scenes ever for me - Nightcrawler trying to assassinate the Prez) - but the 3rd one was just dogshit!

I didn't mind First Class and Days of Future Past as well - but not a fan of James McAvoy as Professor X

I think the next MCU thing I'm really interested in is Daredevil - I'm glad they carried it on from the Netflix show and didn't kiddify it/tone it down

I like some of the older ones. I think up to Age of Ultron is where I'd say it lost my interest. And I think the success it's brought has killed any chance of smaller superheroes being able to be successful on the big screen. I just want a Spawn or SCUD movie. Also the way it's destroyed DC's ability to put anything of interest out pisses me off too. I've always preferred DC.

I loved the Punisher series though. But I really mess with The Punisher so. I think trying to make him a bit more empathetic really worked for the way they wrote Frank in the show. And Jon Bernthal absolutely kills it in his role. I just wish Disney didn't kill every chance for it to go further than 2 seasons.

Jon Bernthal/Frank is back in the new Daredevil series so there might be hope yet

Sort of, but I’m a special case.
Only watched a handful of movies and didn’t become a fan until Endgame. Then I watched the entire thing from start to finish so it’s newer to me in a way. I think most of it is pretty enjoyable still. I liked Agatha a lot, tho I’m known in my family for not liking MCU Spider-Man lol
My whole family is big into Marvel so it’s a fun activity to watch stuff together with them. GotG are my favorites.

The 20thCF X-Men movies are a mixed bag. On the one hand, they were the first ever film versions of X-Men we ever got, so that alone got it some credit for its time. And Huge Jackedman did a good job of acting Wolverine despite being too tall to be entirely like the tiny badger man.

However, they have their downsides that Disney needs to make sure to avoid. For one, they have the typical Whedoned script, which Disney still hasn't disinfected themselves of despite ditching Whedon. Second of all, the costuming is too "90s cool" (a result of Bryan Singer's explicit hatred for comic books) and needs to be replaced with comic accurate ones (luckily, they trended in that direction to the point that even Wolvie gets his cowl now).

But my biggest concern is William Stryker. Fox are a bunch of chicken-ƒ¡‡ conformists for altering his character. The Reverend William Stryker is supposed to represent the real-life threat of religious extremism to marginalized groups. Changing him into a military man drains him of all meaning, making him just another generic villain from "dæ gubernmint". I don't have high hopes for what Disney will do with him, but if they care at all about accuracy, they should fix Fox's biggest mistake.

That aside, there are more bad 20thCF X-Men movies than good ones, with 2 of them being basically the same bad film. And the good ones are pretty flawed. Hopefully what we get next takes into consideration what worked and what didn't and improves on that.

I think it should’ve ended at Endgame, though I'm so burnt out from superhero movies that I can only look at the universe with disdain.

It was fun when it was just a few movies because the concept of different seemingly unrelated films having something that connects them was really cool, but soon it became way too hard to keep up. Greediness became its downfall, sadly.

I‘m mostly agnostic about the mcu in general. I’ve enjoyed parts of a few of the films. Guardians of the galaxy was really good as was the first half of the first captain america, but nothing compelled me to seek out more of the movies on purpose. They feel very samey, the disconnect between action scenes and character scenes is galling and the mushy visuals are unappealing to me. The unfortunate connections to the military entertainment complex are a whole different can of worms I‘m not willing to touch here just yet.

It’s definitely one of those phenomenons I don’t get the appeal of. I appreciate the ambition to put all this together over so many years and movies but the depth of the story that ultimately unfolded didn’t really justify that effort and the absurd amounts of money spent. I don’t know who made the joke but it bears repeating that it took marvel 15 movies and billions of dollars what the powerpuff girls managed to do in 20 minutes. So in short they just don’t appeal to me, I don’t really find them entertaining enough. I would be a little easier on the mcu if they finished the series after end game though. Now its just become endless.

I’m probably alone in this but I find the x-men movies (until their budgets got slashed to bits when Disney took over) a lot more fun, mature and character driven. Despite their flaws they are at least about something bigger than a generic bad guy.

I'm basically done with it. I grew up with the Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor movies so seeing it all culminate as the Avengers movie was awesome, but that's where it stops for me. Every movie after that has disappointed me, so I've given up on the franchise.

Supposedly the Thunderbolts is going to be good according to test screenings which if true will stun me. Trailer looked pretty underwhelming.
I have high hopes for Fantastic Four. Hopefully Marvel learns to stop shoveling the multiverse and interconnecting every single one of their movies. You can do team ups but keep some universes separate.

One example of this is She-Hulk. Supposedly they are trying to insert her into DareDevil Born Again's season 2... I don't think she would work well with the vibe of the show.

Daredevil is fine in She-Hulk and I actually enjoyed that show... But having a meta breaking over powered character would definitely clash with the grounded tone of Daredevil.

Honestly I would be more worried about the DCU universe than MCU as DCU hasn't even gotten off the ground and is all in on Superman (one of the hardest characters to write compelling fiction around imo as he is too powerful and ZOMG Kryptonite has been done before).

I will wait for the movies to hit the high seas as movie theatres are way too expensive now.

I agree with you. The simple mention of Skrulls in one of the episodes already caused me some discomfort, can't imagine how I'd feel with She-hulk on it... it I still was watching the series anyway. If you saw one of my recent status you know I dropped show already, so at this point I guess I'm willing to laugh at it.

Not that I don't embrace absurdity in some cases, but please keep the MCU stuff in the MCU.

Episode 8 is actually pretty good.
Supposedly they brought some of the netflix staff to clean up the original run of born again which failed test screenings.

Its surreal and jarring to witness the tonal shifts throughout the series. I hope the finale continues from 8's highs.
The original production of born again was allegedly so bad that the actor who played the Punisher (jon bernthal) quit. They got him back when they hired the Punisher producer to help clean things up but imo they should have just started with a clean slate.

This is going to be controversial possibly but so far s3>s1>Born Again>s2 imo. Not a big fan of Daredevil s2.

I would go further and say disconnect some of the MCU to help characters really shine.

I used to care then Disney took it and fook it and now I don´t give a crap. I don´t need a man hating She-hulk that twerks and looks dumb. I don´t need crappy the marvels or shitty Madam Webster.

So seeing as MCU abandons quality in favor of god who knows what. Nah man Marvel is dead to me.

Well DC had not done so well at least in live action category but they do still makes some nice animations. Like Batman the killing joke or Batman under the red hood or Batman: Gotham by Gaslight.

So for me DC is still on the table so far.

I never cared THAT bad on it, but i am part of the "Ends in Endgame" herd, so far the only things i care past Endgame are:

Wandavision: A exquisite Horror series with good pastiches of Sitcoms, akin to a Adult Swin "Commercial" with plot
Loki: My favorite character both in Mythology and in comics now with his own antics in a meta series filled wih references, also Miss Minute my beloved
No way Home: A fun Fanservice pack that brings back the best Doc Oct, while i still consider SInto The Spiderverse and its sequel better, they did a good job
What-if: Oh my god, they killed Tony fun alternate universe serial, i am a sucker for its Cel-shading style but some of the stories feel lacking, a hit and miss

Otherwise, i only care for the Meme templates and if there is nothing else on TV for the MCU

I realize I haven't watched episode 7. Should I skip this one? 😅

Episode 7 has a hilarious moment in it...
I mean he braille reads the painting muse draws after feeling his lover's face and deduces they are the same person and goes to her office immediately lolz
Also ROFLMAO there attempt at making Muse sympathetic/give his origin story was that his parents forced him to do Taekwondo lol
It leads me to think Muse was supposed to be the original main villain.

I don't understand how you deduced She-Hulk hates men? She is an unbearable mary-sue at times but she
Deliberately seeks out a man's love and it is played off as comedy that she couldn't find a proper match not because there are no good men but series of unfortunate circumstances. Hell there are plenty of nice men throughout the series she encounters.
I would give She-Hulk a 6-7/10 but it's nowhere near peak Marvel and does not even function as a budget more family friendly Deadpool they clearly were going for with the fourth wall breaks.

Obnoxious nerd that I am, I wanted to add that John Byrne's Sensational She-Hulk from the late 80's found a lot of success doing the 4th wall breaks, and it's one of the key reference points for the show. (Along with Dan Slott's run in the 00's, obviously). Writer Joe Kelly came up with a similar take on Deadpool in the late 90's, and basically retooled the character into what we see today. (Blind Al and a lot of running jokes came about in that book too).

That's not to say they didn't want to rope in some Deadpool fans with the Disney series, just saying She-Hulk (and probably a Z-list character named Ambush Bug) inspired that whole character dynamic to begin with.

I used to care about it until infinity war. In my unpopular opinion, infinity war was the last good movie in the series. Captain marvel was mediocre and endgame was a big disappointment for me. Endgame just...I don't know how to describe it, but it felt like it was made more for fulfilling fan desired moments than to actually carry over the narrative stakes set in infinity war properly. After endgame, i just became bored of them. Bored of keeping up with them, bored of the oversaturation, and just genuine apathy due to lack of experimentation and constant repetition. Like, i used to be a big daredevil fan. The og netflix show is still one of favorite shows of all time, but I cannot give two fucks about the new show. I haven't even checked the trailer. I am that apathetic. The only superhero related stuff i have seen after endgame is no way home, Shang Chi, The Batman, and The Penguin. No way home was bad, and I regret watching it, especially as someone who grew up with Tobey's spidey. Shang chi felt more mediocre and I just sat through it for Tony Leung (he is an amazing actor; go check Happy Together, In The Mood For Love, Infernal Affairs, and Lust Cautions), though I kind of appreciate them bringing more kung fu style of action choreography into MCU. The Batman was...great visually (except for whenever they were on the rooftop with that blurry vaseline esque background), but narratively it left me unfulfilled. The only one I kind of like was The Penguin, and that show felt the least like a superhero show. Even though that show had problems (like relying on deus ex machinas by the end), I still had a great time with it. Though I don't know if that show makes me interested enough to watch the second batman film considering I just feel tired of superhero films in general. Even if they make a second season of the penguin, i am not coming back, because it felt like a great one and done deal. Everything was neatly wrapped up by the end (except for things they clearly opened for batman 2 which again, and am havng hard time convincing myself to watch).

But yeah, in future, given 20-30 years, I can see romaticization for superhero movies coming back like how by 80s and 90s people started loving westerns again after getting bored to death from them in 60s. But for now, we are at that 60s stage, and I feel like I should be spending my time with other genres of movies, and other type of stories, and come back when i finally feel like enough time has passed.

I assumed that Infinity War/Endgame would've been the very conclusion of the MCU as an universe and that Disney would've rebooted the whole thing.
Yeah, if a series doesn't end, it feels like it is trapped in a limbo of sorts and it gets dull and duller until everything good out of it is sucked out and only a pale imitation of its corpse is left. So I finally get what comic book fans felt for years. Lol. I think the james bond guys hit it good with distinguishing each actor's era as its own separate form of storytelling, and each director having their own interpretation of the character. Something similar to that may work, with a new universe having a newer style, but I feel like that may not happen for another decade...or until a film bombs so badly, that they realize, "yeah we need to change the course of things".

Thank god Mangas atleast go in a linear order and have endings (except for One Piece; that shit never ending XD)

i gave the tvshows a try, i only liked the first half of wandavision and the rest is kinda middling. unless they reset everything i dont think they're going to revive this "franchise".
