Movies So is the MCU still something you care about? Assuming you ever did that is.

Is it still a hype thing for you or are you pretty done with it? Were you ever much of an MCU fan to begin with? Are you sick of superhero stuff all together?

I still have hopes for it, like "Maybe it'll pull it together eventually" but I'll admit every year that sort of dwindles more.

Been collecting comic books for 30 years, stopped caring after iron man 2, I knew It was gonna end like westerns, way too many superhero movies ruined a once niche genre milked to death for the please of mindless consumers.

I think after the endgame, there's not much to be excited about. Some of our old heroes got old and replaced, it just doesn't feel the same y'know? And the story can be a hit and miss, but it depends since it's the next generation after all
This is how I feel too. Endgame felt like a good place to end, and now it feels like a band on their 17th encore and the audience wants to go home.

The last time I paid attention to the MCU was when my friends told me Miku had a song cameo in Guardians 3, and even then I didn't see the whole movie.

no, i never cared much for marvel comics, and the only dc stuff that i've read has been about batman. it was just a couple of comics many years ago.
you need people who know how a story works to get in there and start making new stuff, and then the movie might improve slightly.
you'll get one here and there, but it'll never really hit that peak again; especially at the yearly release schedule, and i think the new set up is every few months.
i at least take a few days to work on a single drawing or a comic idea. a movie would need a few months just to get the whole plot laid out.
if they slow down a bit, maybe they can make some better stuff.

I genuinely enjoyed maybe half of the first decade or so, highlights being Winter Soldier and that first Spiderman. Never super invested though, and the newer stuff just kinda slides over my brain without sticking at all. I don’t hate it, or think people are dumb for liking it, but I’m no-hard-feelings done with it.

That's so true lmao, great example. Honestly, I only saw some clips of that movie and I didn't even search for it, it just appeared like a recommendation

I am definitely not the target audience for the MCU and it went from something I was ambivalent about to something I kinda loathe now. I have enjoyed movies in the MCU, namely Guardians of the Galaxy and Iron Man, but I'm just so sick of it. It's never going to end either! Oh well, there are more important things to be worried about this day and age.

Time to come off as a marvel normie.

I liked Doctor Strange 2, Captain Marvel and Love and Thunder.

I hated the shit out of Ant Man 3 though. Shang-Chi could've been a fun marvel Kung Fu movie but it got hollywooded in the middle of it and eternal was okayish I guess.

Deadpool 3, Thor 3 and Guardians of the Galaxy as a whole were my favorites.

That caught me by surprise when I was watching and was a pleasant one

This maybe doesn't count as MCU but I really liked the Daredevil series.

Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Defenders, on the other hand... jesus christ. They're a example of what's everything wrong with series nowadays.

I'm intrigued to see how they handle the X-Men - I think if they mess them up then they might be done for - which these days basically means they'll reboot and start the whole damn cycle again...

Oh yeah, I guess that 20th Century Fox purchase cleared up the rights stuff… I might check back in for that too. Tough row to hoe though, that original cast was pretty much perfect and mostly consistent for 20 years.

The MCU ended with Endgame.
The franchise went from being an reliable, enjoyable cinematic experience (Fun is fun) to a mess of inter connecting stories that I just don't have the time or energy to care about.

Not every film or series needs a billion cameos and cross overs, plus there has been no over arching narrative to hold things together and it really shows.

As for DC?
"Fans" are praising the new Stand alone Superman for being a return to form when it unironically has a Black Adam size cast.
I want every one who complained over Batman vs Superman or even Sony's Amazing Spiderman 2 for feeling crowded to apologise because you're all celebrating yet another Guardians/Suicide squad with a slightly different coat of paint.
I'm not a Snyder purest but the amount of projects that were sabotaged by mandated retools (Aquaman 2, The Flash), films left to die with no marketing (Shazam 2, Blue Beetle) or films outright cancelled (Cyborg, Wonder Woman 3, The Trench- the Lovecraftian Aquaman horror spin off) to accommodate Black Adam 2.0 is ridiculous.
Stop trying to speed run the MCU entire first phase in a single 2 hour film.

I'm tired of both.

I was always more of a DC fan than a Marvel fan pre-MCU. As a result, I was rarely super hyped for the MCU (Infinity War was the one time) and kept my feelings in moderation about the rest.

The gist of it:
  • Was ambivalent about Iron Man. Wasn't expecting much from the previews, didn't feel that hyped after watching it.
  • Hulk 2: Hulk Harder (or whatever it was) was mediocre.
  • Thor was a bit interesting, but a bit too flawed.
  • Captain America was the best film of Phase 1. Wasn't expecting that.
  • Iron Man 2 was okay, but had not much to be hyped for other than Sam Rockwell.
  • The Avengers did well despite Joss Whedon giving the script the Whedon treatment. But that's also why it's not that rewatchable.
  • Iron Man 3 teased MODOK but had no MODOK. Disappointing.
  • Thor: The Dark World did Christopher Eccleston wrong by putting him in the most forgettable film.
  • CA: Winter continues the win streak for CA, although I hate how fans treat it like a super deep political thriller when it's pretty tame compared to the real thing.
  • Guardians of the Galaxy was surprisingly good considering the obscurity of the team. Also the last time I liked Chris Pratt in anything.
  • Avengers: Age of Whedon was way too Whedon.
  • Ant-Man was fine but had a dull villain.
  • CA: CW was never going to live up to the hype, given that it was an adaptation of a badly written series. It was serviceable, but the lesser of the CA movies.
  • Doctor Strange was interesting, but I would have liked more screen time with Dormammu instead of generic bad wizard.
  • Guardians of the Galaxy v2 sucked. Pratt goes full prat, story feels aimless, James Gunn gives in to his worst humor tendencies, and Mantis is not introduced well.
  • Spider-man: HC does well enough.
  • Thor Ragnarok is the one good Thor movie. And the one good Hulk movie.
  • Black Panther is a really good film mired in lazy CGI.
  • Avengers: IW is better than the previous ones. Glad they didn't mess with the ending.
  • Ant-Man and Whatever was forgettable. Literally don't remember it.
  • Captain Marvel was just like the comic: there just to block DC from regaining a trademark.
  • Avengers: EG closes the series well.
  • Spider-man: FFH was meh until the 3rd act. A really good ending ruined by its sequel.
  • Black Widow was just nothing. Maybe a tax write-off?
  • Shang-Chi was surprisingly boring. Nothing felt like it had weight.
  • Eternals was the same case.
  • Spider-man: Remember the Raimi Movies was meh. Somehow, the Whedon writing starts getting more obnoxious at this point despite Whedon having been away for some time.
  • Doctor Strange and the Script Change starring Wanda from the Disney+ Series is bottom of the barrel cynical monetization trash. Said f*** this to the MCU at this point. I'm not buying DLC for a movie.
So on the whole, the MCU was entertaining in a popcorn fare way. It had its highlights that I don't regret watching. However, the post-Endgame downward spiral got so bad I'm not so sure I'm going back to it even with Doctor Doom coming up. At minimum, I'm never watching it in theaters again.

I've never been big on supers, so the last supers movie I watched in theaters was Guardians of the Galaxy 3 because my best friend dragged me to go see it. It sucked donkey dong. The issue that pissed me off the most was the near-constant, rapid tonal shifts. It was always [Sad, Traumatic Moment] immediately followed up by a terrible one-liner/joke.

I was invested in Rocket Raccoon's backstory (mostly because I couldn't stand the rest of the group, Nebula excluded) but the conclusion felt unsatisfying.
I actually wanted Rocket to die, not because I hate the character but because the cliché ending they went with e.g. "you can't die, it's not your time" cheapened the narrative as a whole imo

NGL, I checked out after the first Avengers, lol.
Thought that was a great way to wrap everything up.
Actually, still think that. ?

Some of the Fox casting was simply great and others a bit shit frankly (or maybe it's their interpretation of certain characters being a bit off to me). I dunno if Marvel Studios are gonna be able to hoe their new row properly, I really hope they do though! ?

The early 2000 X-Men movies aren't exactly good but I really enjoy them, not into MCU much but I'll be mad if they mess this up.
I only follow MCU until Iron Man 2 and I only watched Doctor Strange because The King, Bruce Campbell, is in it.

I never really cared about the MCU.
The only MCU movies I've watched were the Iron Man movies, Hulk (2003 and 2008 movies), and Captain America: The First Avenger.

No honestly I quit giving a flying frack about the M-SHE-U. Not after the trash they call She-hulk and Wakkanda forever and so on.. Disney can take their DEI and well go and DIE as a company.

I haven't kept up with the MCU, I feel like there's way too much and the quality of everything seems very mixed going by opinions I hear around. If a friend wanted to watch Marvel stuff with me I'd be down, but I haven't gone to watch any of it on my own in a while.

Guardians 1, Endgame, and Civil War are probably my favorites.

I really don’t like the MCU. Deadpool was the last thing that interested me. He’s in my top 5 favorite comic book characters.
