It truly is the ultimate oxymoron.I never thought that one day I'd read "Doom" and "can't run" in the same sentence...![]()
I'm actually thinking the same thing — he even released his source code for it.Taking into account that Doom has been made to run on virtually everything else, I'm sure that MVG made that video in order to informally throw down the gauntlet to the broader community..
To be fair, it was his Ad Hoc attempt at making Wolfenstein 3D work. But all the same, having a proto- proof of concept/ Hello World is certainly better than nothing..I'm actually thinking the same thing — he even released his source code for it.
Yeah, exactly. To be fair, it was his Ad Hoc attempt at making Wolfenstein 3D work. But all the same, having a proto- proof of concept/ Hello World is certainly better than nothing..
Agreed..Yeah, exactly.
It's wild because the Neo Geo could probably have the coolest version of Doom.
I mean...
They have DOOM running on everything, from E. coli gut bacteria and a pregnancy test to a 700 potato powered graphing calculator, a PDF file, and even an oscilloscope....
The fact that it doesn't run on the Neo Geo is pretty sad, actually.
I meant to watch this, but I never got around to it today. I was just busy with stuff

Finally! Doom can't run on something, and it's the fucking Neo Geo!You know? I never noticed the lack of a Doom port on Neo Geo... Probably because I had always assumed it was a given (look at the sheer amount of random devises the fucker runs on).
But I just LOVE these kinds of tech tidbits into consoles and engines from the past:
Programming error? Oversight? Or just a design philosophy that Doom simply wasn't a part of? Whatever the case it's fascinating, man.
Even in a cactusI mean...

How?It's a pleb game.
I think you're oversimplifying things a bit too much there.Doom is essentially a bunch of 2d images.
And the video itself explains why the NG can't draw the graphics the way they need to be drawn due to a chip architecture difference. How?
I think you're oversimplifying things a bit too much there.
The SNES version needed a separate chip.
I'm joking! The Neo Geo was a beast when it launched with great arcade games and it was only at the reach of rich people or business owners. Not the regular Joe that bought gaming magazines, glued the face to stores windows showing the latest games and gushed over videogames when he talked. How?
We can die happy :DFinally! Doom can't run on something, and it's the fucking Neo Geo!
